Chapter 9

Meng Zhiyi’s voice was loud, instantly drawing the attention of the surrounding students.

When everyone saw that it was the rumored “Pure Love Warrior,” they all stopped to watch the commotion.

After all, Meng Zhiyi’s infatuation with Shen Que was well-known throughout A University.

Especially with Song Wei caught in the middle-a triangle involving an orphaned girl living with a wealthy family, the Jing Circle Prince, and a rich heiress-no matter the era, such a story was bound to be a hot topic.

There was even a special section dedicated to the three of them on the school’s Gossip Website. Every time Meng Zhiyi made a move, someone would update it, making it easy for gossip lovers to keep up with the latest drama.

At this moment, the onlookers had already taken out their phones and started recording.

Shen Que heard Meng Zhiyi’s voice, looked up at her indifferently, and said nothing.

“Tsk, your disaster is here again,” Shen Que’s friend said beside him, clearly gloating.

Before the words had even faded, Meng Zhiyi was already storming over.

She snatched the item from Shen Que’s hand and threw it to the ground. “You’re not allowed to help her carry things.”

Then, like a mother hen protecting her chicks, she stood between them with her hands on her hips, glaring fiercely at Song Wei. “I warned you long ago to stay away from my fiancé. Can’t you understand human language?!”

“How can you be so shameless? Have you never learned the meaning of decency?”

Song Wei bit her lip lightly, looking aggrievedly at Shen Que, hoping he would defend her as he had in the past.

Meng Zhiyi lifted her chin, looking at her with an overbearing attitude.

{Very good, making a big scene on the first day of school. With so many people watching, if Shen Que doesn’t stand up for Song Wei, I’ll look down on him!}

{With this, Shen Que must hate me even more now!}

Meng Zhiyi thought smugly to herself, waiting for the System to announce an increase in Shen Que’s Dislike Value. Just then, she felt someone behind her pull her back a little.

Meng Zhiyi’s eyes sparkled with excitement.

{Is it starting? Is he about to explode?}

She was ready for the next act, but to her surprise, Shen Que wasn’t angry at all about her publicly humiliating Song Wei.

Instead, he squatted down and picked up the bag she had thrown.

Meng Zhiyi: “…”

{What’s in that bag, gold bars or something? Is it more important than your future wife?}

{Shouldn’t you be accusing me of being unreasonable like before, and coldly declaring you want to break off the engagement?!}

{Shen Que, come on! Scold me!}

Shen Que slowly stood up, his handsome face calm, but his heart was anything but peaceful.

Listening to Meng Zhiyi’s chattering inner voice, he sighed inwardly.

If his mental fortitude were any weaker, he would have lost control right then and there.

He turned around, looking at the girl before him with a cold gaze.

“This is from Grandma Shen for you,” Shen Que said in his clear, gentle voice, then handed her the bag.

“…” Meng Zhiyi was completely stunned.

{Damn! How am I supposed to keep acting now?}

She had been so focused on increasing the Dislike Value that she hadn’t even noticed what Shen Que was holding, just assumed he was helping Song Wei carry something.

Now she stared motionlessly at the bag Shen Que handed her, her mind racing as she tried to figure out her next move.

At that moment, Song Wei, watching from the side, had a fleeting look in her eyes.

She stepped forward, her voice not too loud but clear enough for all the onlookers to hear.

“Meng Zhiyi, this is a gift Grandma Shen carefully picked out for you. Even if you don’t like it, you shouldn’t just throw it away, right?”

Song Wei was gentle and beautiful, her soft-spoken manner making her the White Moonlight goddess for many boys at school.

One was understanding, the other was unreasonable-this contrast between her and Meng Zhiyi became even more pronounced.

Meng Zhiyi was still thinking about how to continue the act.

After hearing Song Wei’s loaded words, she almost wanted to give her a thumbs-up.

Then she immediately turned her fire on Song Wei.

“What business is it of yours whether I throw it or not? Why don’t you mind your own business and stay away from my fiancé!”
“Could it be that you just love being the other woman?”

As Meng Zhiyi’s words grew more and more reckless, Shen Que, though knowing she was acting for some kind of mission, still frowned lightly.

He had no intention of defending Song Wei, yet for some reason, he didn’t want Meng Zhiyi to keep ruining her own image like this.

So, before Meng Zhiyi could speak again, Shen Que reached out, grabbed her hand, and led her away from the scene.

Song Wei hadn’t expected Shen Que to just take Meng Zhiyi away. She stood there, wide-eyed, unable to figure out Shen Que’s attitude toward Meng Zhiyi.

Clearly, before this, Shen Que had always ignored Meng Zhiyi’s existence, even deliberately avoiding her.

But ever since that time at the hospital, Song Wei had clearly noticed Shen Que’s change toward Meng Zhiyi.

She couldn’t figure out what had gone wrong.

On the other side, Shen Que pulled Meng Zhiyi toward a quieter area. Along the way, quite a few people snapped photos and posted them on the Gossip Website.

“Why did you drag me away? Are you protecting her?”

“Shen Que, you have no heart. I like you so much, but you trample on my feelings again and again!”

“Don’t forget, we have an engagement! When you and Song Wei are always together, have you ever thought about how I feel?”

“How do you expect others to see me?”

“Wuwuwu…”

Meng Zhiyi flung Shen Que’s hand away and started a dramatic tirade against him.

[If I remember right, Shen Que hates hearing about the engagement the most. If I keep this up, he should get angry, right?]

But after waiting a while, Shen Que still didn’t respond.

Meng Zhiyi secretly gritted her teeth, cursing Shen Que a hundred times in her heart, but on the surface, she still had to maintain a look of grievance as she stared at him.

[Why isn’t he reacting at all?]

[I was starving-hurry up and finish the scene!]

Meng Zhiyi’s internal complaints were so loud they made Shen Que’s ears ache.

He turned his head aside and pinched his aching brow.

“Meng Zhiyi, stop causing trouble for Song Wei.”

Shen Que steadied his complicated emotions, his dark eyes staring straight at her.

If you looked closely, you could see the helplessness hidden deep in his eyes.

Hearing this, Meng Zhiyi nearly burst into tears of joy. Since she transmigrated here, this was the first time the guy in front of her had played along with the scene.

She quickly adjusted her expression, immediately putting on a look of heartbreak as she gazed at Shen Que: “So you really care about that woman! Then what am I? What does our engagement mean?”

As soon as she finished, she wiped away her sadness and continued, gritting her teeth:

“So you want to protect her, huh? Then let me make it clear-so long as our engagement exists, Song Wei won’t have peace!”

“From today on, if I see her clinging to you, she won’t have a good time!”

“Unless you get Grandma Shen to agree to break off the engagement.”

Meng Zhiyi finished, not giving Shen Que any chance to speak, and turned away in grief, heading straight for the cafeteria.

[Alright, today’s mission is done. Time to eat-I need to eat.]

[Speaking of which, my acting just now must’ve been flawless. The lovesick girl turning dark for love-bet Shen Que is totally baffled now?]

[Hehehe, I’ll continue after I eat. Gotta work hard for early retirement.]

“…” Shen Que stood where he was, listening to her inner thoughts, a hint of headache appearing on his calm face.

He was starting to regret not breaking off the engagement that day and choosing to go along with Meng Zhiyi’s act.

After Meng Zhiyi walked away, Shen Que glanced down at what was in his hand, finally sighing helplessly before turning and heading in the opposite direction.

Once he left, a figure sneakily poked her head out from the flower bushes.

The girl looked like she’d just witnessed some major gossip, clutching her phone excitedly.

She quickly opened WeChat, found the chat with the selfie avatar, and clicked in.

[Weiwei, hurry and watch the video I sent you!]”}
