My Wife Is No Saint - Chapter 3
I was silent for a moment.
“The bathroom.”
“Do you want to follow me there too?”
He immediately threw off his blanket. “Can I?”
I squeezed my eyes shut. “I need some privacy.”
Chen Jinsheng sheepishly withdrew his hand, faint disappointment in his voice.
“Okay.”
In the bathroom, I turned and saw that the OP had added a second edit to his post.
My wife just got up to use the bathroom and refused to let me follow her.
I’m currently using her fiancé’s body. Could this indirectly prove that my wife doesn’t actually like her fiancé very much?!
Someone left an airy reply: Doesn’t mean she likes you either.
The next second, Chen Jinsheng’s furious whisper came through the door.
“Just watch me delete your comment!”
Me: “…”
At that moment, amusement at the absurdity reached me before fear of the unknown could.
I decided I had worried too much.
Maybe what I had just seen really was an illusion. After all, I’d worked overtime three days in a row before going to pick him up today.
In his current state, it seemed more likely that his memory still hadn’t returned and his cognitive impairment had worsened.
I messaged the doctor.
“His condition has become more serious. My fiancé now thinks he isn’t human.”
The doctor: “…”
“Bring him in for observation tomorrow.”
I breathed a sigh of relief.
I had just stepped out when the slippers I’d worn for a year without incident chose that exact moment to betray me.
I lost my balance and could see myself about to fall backward.
“Oh, for—”
In that instant, everything went black.
Something hissed through the air beside my ear, the sound of something moving at incredible speed.
Something coiled around my waist and steadied me, then quickly let go.
I didn’t fall.
At that exact moment, the light returned.
The black tentacle retreated fast, but I knew I hadn’t imagined it.
Hearing the commotion, Chen Jinsheng rushed over, took my hand, and stretched his arms out to inspect me from above, below, left, right, front, and back.
“Are you okay? Does anything hurt?”
My brain had never worked so fast.
A lie flew out of my mouth.
“I’m fine. I almost fell, but my waist is strong. I caught myself.”
Chen Jinsheng visibly relaxed.
I was still mumbling, trying to say something else, when he suddenly flung himself into my arms and cut me off.
“Wifey, you scared me to death!”
“The power went out just now. I was scared. Hurry and hug me.”
I didn’t react in time.
At his words, I instinctively raised a hand and patted his back.
“Did you see just now—”
“No!”
I hadn’t even finished.
The grown man forcing himself into my arms like an oversized damsel answered with absolute certainty.
I fixed his face with a suspicious look.
Chen Jinsheng breathed rapidly, his gaze darting away.
“I hadn’t finished my question. What are you feeling guilty about?”
He said nothing.
After a long moment, blood slowly trickled from his nose.
Chen Jinsheng dropped to his knees with a thud.
“Yes. I saw it.”
“I’m sorry, Wifey. I shouldn’t have lied.”
Me: “…”
My heart gave a jolt.
“Chen Jinsheng” took a slap from me.
The crack was crisp and clear.
Smack—
He didn’t get angry. Instead, he obediently turned his other cheek toward me.
“I’m sorry.”
That only left me choking on everything I wanted to say.
My anger had nowhere to go, as powerless as a fist sinking into cotton.
With a bright-red handprint on his fair cheek, Chen Jinsheng blinked slowly and pointed at the slipper around my ankle.
“Wifey, should we pull it off?”
“It’s stuck.”
I took a deep breath and told him to find scissors and cut it off.
He said that would be too wasteful.
“I want to be a frugal little snail husband who takes care of the home.”
Then, in order to pull off the slipper, I sat in a chair while he knelt on one knee.
He gave one mighty yank—
Chen Jinsheng’s elbow slammed into the table beside him. The teacups on top rolled off, and two of them shattered.
Deathly silence surrounded us.
I stared at him expressionlessly.
“All right, golden apple-snail husband.”
“Open the first drawer on the left under the TV and get the scissors.”
“Then clean up the shards before coming back to sleep.”
Chen Jinsheng: “…Okay.”
He obediently cleaned up the mess.
When I returned to the bedroom first and checked my phone, I saw that he had posted something new.
Wifey almost fell. Fortunately, my tentacle caught her in time.
She looked so cute when the fright left her dazed. She thought she’d caught herself because her waist was strong.
I hugged her tonight. She smelled so good and felt so soft. I’m so happy!
I lay back down and stared at the ceiling, unsure how I was supposed to feel.
So it wasn’t a cognitive disorder.
He really wasn’t human…
I didn’t know how long passed before soft rustling sounded from the floor beside me.
Then Chen Jinsheng sighed in wonder, “Wifey, your heartbeat is so lively.”
Yet he remained completely unaware that humans couldn’t sense another person’s heartbeat through empty air.
His supposedly watertight disguise leaked like a sieve.
I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to calm myself.
“I can’t sleep.”
He hummed. He sounded rather pleased.
“The doctor said today that appropriately telling a patient about the past can help restore their memory.”
“Since neither of us can sleep, could you tell me about it?”
I paused.
For a moment, I didn’t know where to begin.
