Operation Catch the Angel - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Every day at mealtimes, we would meet up in my room for our own private little feast.
“I remember that three hundred years ago, Hell and Heaven signed a peace treaty under Empress Houtu’s witness, didn’t they? So why are angels still coming after you?”
In the room, I slurped my rice noodles as I asked him.
The red-haired young man lifted a brow, his lips curling into a smile. “It’s a long story.”
“Make it short.”
Asmodeus suddenly grew coy. “On your first day here, did you see that archangel at the very front?”
I thought for a moment, then nodded.
I might only be a lowly ghost constable, but I had seen eight hundred beauties if not a thousand.
Even so, that angel had still been stunning. Those eyes, set deep in their sockets and as blue as an endless ocean, were impossible to forget.
I’d heard the others in Hell mention him before. He was a newly ascended Seraph.
“I just wanted to have a taste of him, that’s all~”
The moment this came up, the Red-haired Fallen Angel nearly twisted himself into a pretzel.
Although I’d already heard a few anecdotes about the Sin of Lust, this kind of blatant, right-to-the-face shamelessness still plunged me into a long silence.
The Red-haired Fallen Angel stared at me with shining eyes, waiting for me to keep asking.
Me: “And then?…”
“But I got beaten back before I even got a taste. That uptight, stinking angel has been haunting me ever since. But don’t you Easterners have an idiom for this? Isn’t this what you call love-hate passion?”
His deliberately lowered final syllables dragged out long and silky, and paired with those seductive eyes, they gave me goosebumps from head to toe.
I shuddered and slapped him on the shoulder, interrupting whatever spell he was casting. “What does your boss Lucifer have to say about it?”
“Lucifer said, ‘If you die, don’t expect me to bury you.'”
The red-haired young man swept his hair back from his forehead, his shoulders slumping as he repeated what his immediate superior had told him.
Me: “Wow. He really has no intention of stepping in?”
“Oh, right. Did you like that gift?”
Asmodeus rubbed his chin and stared at me, abruptly changing the subject.
His gaze made my scalp tingle. Hesitantly, I shook my head, then nodded. “Whether I liked the gift depends on what you’re about to say next.”
A few days ago, Asmodeus had given me a Hell doujinshi. The art was gorgeous, the plot was gripping, and I read it with a nosebleed gushing, repeatedly proclaiming it a miracle.
Unfortunately, it was only the first volume. I had yet to receive the second.
“There is a second volume. Do me a favor, and I’ll give you the one from my private collection.”
Asmodeus pressed his advantage.
Me: “What favor?”
“You’re from the East, and you don’t smell like a demon. Help me get back at him.” Asmodeus curved his vivid red lips into a smile, his black wings flaring wide. “He burned off my beautiful wing feathers. Absolutely unforgivable.”
I seemed to realize something. Wary, hesitant, and incredulous, I picked up where he was going. “You can’t be thinking…”
“Dress up as an angel and deceive both his body and his heart! And if that doesn’t work, at least defile him!!”
The red-haired young man said exactly what had appeared in my mind.
I hurriedly waved my hands. “No, no, no. I’m a reserved Easterner. I’m afraid that’s not-”
“I’ll throw in books for the other six sins!”
I wavered a little. “Even so-”
“Plus a super ultra limited-edition Lucifer/Michael book! Don’t worry, just think of it as a vacation in Heaven. This is a society ruled by law now. They won’t kill you.”
Asmodeus slapped the table with heartbreaking sincerity as he made his promise.
No one could resist a temptation like that. I gritted my teeth, my eyes shining, and thumped my chest in guarantee. “Xiao Si, from now on, you are my beloved sibling from different parents. Our bond is now life-and-death! Wherever Big Brother points, I strike!”
Asmodeus: “So are we older sister and younger brother, or older brother and younger sister?”
Me: “Both.”
Him: “You Easterners really are amazing.”
