Chapter 3

Actually, I only had a vague memory of my white moonlight.

Maybe I had spent too long inside the instance, and it had eroded my earliest memories.

The beginning of my memory was a man holding me and crying as he said he would never let anything happen to me.

Seeing him cry made my chest ache. Even with only that tiny fragment of memory, I knew clearly that he was very important to me.

When I opened my eyes again, the first thing I saw was the blood-soaked Throne of Bones. Sitting sideways atop it was a man wrapped in darkness, resting with his eyes closed.

He looked seventy to eighty percent like the face in my memory, but his demeanor was different. When he opened his eyes, they were dark red.

As if noticing I was awake, a long black tentacle stretched out from behind him and tipped up my chin.

“You’re pretty good-looking. Want to be my thirteenth wife?”

And just like that, I became the Count’s Thirteenth Wife.

He said he wouldn’t accept a marriage that wasn’t real, and he even ignored the instance rules just to toy with me.

And now, another person had appeared who looked almost exactly like the face in my memory. Even his aura felt similar.

I couldn’t help asking, “Shen Yanci, did we know each other before?”

Shen Yanci opened the door to a room. As soon as I stepped inside, he turned around in front of me, his arm brushing past my cheek as he shut the door.

“Why do you ask?”

The room was dark, but there were still scattered glints in his eyes as he looked at me.

“It’s nothing. You just feel strangely familiar to me.”

He leaned close to my ear, and a cool woody scent enveloped me. “Because I look a lot like him?”

“Huh?”

Which him?

Before I could process it, his hand settled on my waist and slowly slid upward. The touch was so suggestive it made my whole body go weak.

“Did he touch you like this too?”

Our breaths tangled. I heard him let out a low chuckle, his lips brushing lightly against the rim of my ear before he pulled away.

“Get some rest.”

After tossing out that line and leaving me flushed all over from the teasing, he opened the door and walked out.

Me: “?”

That was a master. A real master.

I took a cold shower, then burrowed into the blankets in exhaustion and fell fast asleep.

This bed really did feel weirdly similar to the one at my place.

Half-asleep and half-dreaming, I vaguely heard the door open, and then a dark figure rushed straight at me.

He stood by the bed and stared at me for a long while before bending down to bite at my lips like he was taking revenge.

“Mm…” The kiss was getting a little rough, but I was too sleepy. I could only force my eyes open a tiny crack.

A pair of ruthless eyes was fixed on me.

Oddly enough, that made me feel a little more at ease. I lifted my arms and wrapped them around him, and my legs unconsciously curled around his waist. “Stop it. Be good and go to sleep.”

“Xiao Cui, who are you calling that?”

He slid his hand under the hem of my clothes and pinched my waist hard. I was so sleepy I could barely take it anymore, so I smacked his wrist twice. “My husband just died. This really isn’t the time…”

“…”

I could practically hear him grinding his teeth. “You shameless woman. So you do know your husband just died.”

“You said you’d never betray me, and the second I died, you found yourself a lover? Hm?”

He really did seem angry. He lifted my clothes and started kissing his way up from my waist. “Where did he touch you? Here? Or here?”

He bit hard enough to hurt a little, and I couldn’t help kicking him. “Are you done yet?”

But I kicked empty air.

I jolted fully awake. The room was pitch-black, and I was alone.

I couldn’t help shrinking back a little. When I looked down, there were several red marks on my waist, glaringly obvious.

Holy crap. My dead husband really came back to haunt me.
