Daisy had transmigrated, becoming a minor background character in a classic Western novel.
Nineteenth-century London. The golden years of the Victorian era. The iron tide of the Industrial Revolution had forged London into a metropolis admired by the world.
The West End glittered with drink and decadence, like heaven on earth. The East End was packed with sweatshops, like a living hell.
Daisy’s entire family was crammed into a narrow little house in the East London slums.
They scraped by on nothing more than half of a run-down general store.
But the grandmother who had run the place was bedridden, and the rest of the family managed it like headless flies. Business at the little shop grew worse by the day.
Daisy looked over the chaotic shelves at home and spotted the problems at a glance.
Canned tomatoes and cocoa powder-the old stock had not even sold out, yet the new goods had been placed in front. Some were nearly spoiled, and no one had noticed.
The counter was filthy, covered in dust, so no one would touch the candied fruit, milk toffees, biscuits, or any of the other food.
And fast-moving goods like soap, sealing wax, and baking soda had sold out ages ago, yet still had not been restocked…
In her previous life, Daisy had clawed her way up from the bottom to become the CEO of a retail brand. Her verdict was simple:
“I can do this-let me take over!”
