Chapter 2

Just as Pei Ye was about to scoop me up by the waist, I screamed, “Don’t touch me!”

“I’m not feeling sick anymore!”

Pei Ye frowned, impatient. “Jiang Su, what kind of crooked scheme are you playing at now? Is it fun, messing with people?”

“So you really were faking it, trying to win my concern!”

Pei Ye gave a derisive laugh. “Jiang Su, when will you finally grow up and become a little more gentle and composed, like Miss Shen?”

I dug my nails into my palms.

So hard that my hands were slick with blood.

My lips were covered in tiny bite marks. I didn’t dare make a sound, afraid that if I did, it would come out as a muffled moan.

Pei Ye left me where I was.

I made my way to the guest room where the current Chancellor, Rong Yuchen, was resting.

My fingertips trembled.

Shaking, I knocked on his door.

A long time passed.

So long that I nearly couldn’t hold back from pushing the door open and barging in.

Then a hand with distinct knuckles, long and powerful fingers, pulled the door open.

“Miss Jiang? Did you knock on the wrong door?”

“This isn’t the Marquis Estate. And at this hour, the person you’re looking for isn’t here either.”

His voice was cool and clear, like water, like ice striking jade.

For an instant, the flames raging inside me were snuffed out-only to burn even more fiercely.

The comments were boiling too:

[He cares so much! Every night Mei Bao doesn’t come to see him, does he hide under the covers and cry? Then write the name of that Madman Pei Ye on the soles of his shoes and stomp on it with everything he’s got?]

[Mei Bao, don’t be fooled by him being a High Mountain Flower. He cries really easily…]

[Every time you call him Ah Xiong, his fingers tremble with excitement. In a bit, bite his ear and keep calling him Ah Xiong. You’ll drive him to death with pleasure!]

Those words kept flickering across the comments.

My eyes were already red and blurred. I couldn’t see them clearly anymore.

All I saw was Rong Yuchen, saintly as an immortal.

He wore only a simple white inner robe, revealing the clean, translucent lines of his collarbones.

His soft black hair fell to his waist, not a strand out of place, and his whole body carried the cold, pure scent of jade sandalwood.

It made me want to drag him down from the clouds.

Pull him into this doomed mortal world and soil him mercilessly.

To see his eyes turn red, to see him lose control and weep.

My gaze slid along his collarbones, down to his lean waist, then lower…

Rong Yuchen noticed something was wrong with me too.

His cool palm landed on my forehead.

“What’s wrong? You’re burning up. Are you ill?”

Rong Yuchen’s cold, clear voice softened, hiding a trace of concern so faint it was almost impossible to detect.

He was so close.

His cool jade-sandalwood scent slipped into my breath.

Like an addictive drug.

My heart was pounding so fast.

The world swam before my eyes, and I couldn’t stand.

My legs gave way.

Instinctively, I grabbed his cold, slender fingers.

The voice that spilled from my throat was so soft it had nearly lost its shape.

“Ah… Ah Xiong…” I dragged the words out in broken pieces, my voice trembling with a choked sob I couldn’t endure.

The person I had caught hold of stiffened for a moment, but he didn’t pull away.

He let me grip him tightly, let me twine my fingers around his.

“I feel awful. Help me.”

“I… want…”

I wanted him to fold me into his arms, wanted his cold lips to fall and quench my thirst.

The comments flashed:

[Mei Bao really takes advice. No wonder she gets to eat her fill.]

[Everyone, look at the High Mountain Flower’s ears. They’re so red I’m going blind. You’ve got one hand supporting Mei Bao, and the other hand is still free. Aren’t you planning to do something with it?]

Prompted by the comments, I looked at Rong Yuchen’s ears.

His soft earlobes were flushed a blood-warm crimson, like clear agate.

So it turned out he wasn’t as calm and unmoved as the expression on his face made him seem.

Rong Yuchen bent down, his pale lips drawing close.

As if, if I lifted my head, I could catch those two thin petals between my teeth.

His other hand caught my waist, direct and firm.

Like a shackle, he dragged me in front of him.

His fingertips pressed and kneaded my lips.

“Good Susu…” The words lingered between his lips and teeth, bitten off softly.

“Say it clearly. How do you want Ah Xiong to help you?”
