Reborn to Save the Obsessive Villain - Chapter 2

The next day, I pushed at Xiao Jingzhe’s chest and said shakily, “I can’t. No more. My spiritual energy is practically overflowing.”

He steadied his breathing, looking annoyed.

“You use this vile art to steal my cultivation. One day, it will backfire on you.”

“So worried about me. Do you like me?”

He turned his head away. “Good and evil cannot coexist,” he said coldly.

In the future, you little prude, you’ll be the biggest monster of them all.

Following the timeline of my previous life, in fifty years Xiao Jingzhe would refine a million malevolent spirits and use them to slaughter humanity.

His methods would be so cruel that even we demons couldn’t stand it. We’d intervene to kill the spirits.

That was how I had died: fighting them until I was exhausted.

Given a second life, I was practically sleeping with him for the sake of saving everyone in the world.

I worked diligently for three years and finally drained him of all his spiritual energy.

The future greatest cultivator in the world had his spiritual center extinguished. He was no different from an ordinary mortal.

Time to say goodbye.

“Sect Master Xiao, here we part. May we never meet again in this lifetime.”

“Little demon, you… Don’t go. Stop!”

The cave was only a temporary dwelling. I unfastened the Immortal-Binding Chains and immediately fled.

With dual cultivation, one plus one often made more than two.

To my surprise, Xiao Jingzhe had nourished my cultivation all the way to the late Soul Transformation stage.

The stages of cultivation, from lowest to highest, were Qi Refining, Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, Nascent Soul, Soul Transformation, Tribulation, and Ascension.

After late Soul Transformation came the heavenly tribulation.

Ten thousand bolts of tribulation lightning struck me. If I endured them, I would ascend as an immortal.

I didn’t endure them. Every spiritual meridian in my body broke, leaving me paralyzed.

Lying in the charred crater, bored out of my mind, I blew at my singed hair.

I had no words.

Xiao Jingzhe came running. When he saw I wasn’t dead, he let out a breath of relief.

He crouched in front of me, looked me over, and snorted with laughter.

“What are you laughing at? These are tight curls. A hairstyle ahead of its time.”

With my spiritual meridians broken, I couldn’t retain energy that hadn’t belonged to me in the first place.

I watched the spiritual energy I’d stolen flow back into his body.

Fine. Three years of work, all for nothing.

Our positions had reversed.

Xiao Jingzhe hauled me back to Xuanguang Sect, threw me onto a bed, and seized me by the throat.

If someone abducted me as their cultivation vessel and humiliated me for three years, I’d devour their flesh, drink their blood, and repay them a hundredfold.

So it would be perfectly understandable if he wanted to kill me.

His grip tightened. His eyes were cold and merciless.

I heard the bones in my neck crack and beat at the back of his hand in agony.

He released me. “Better that you’re paralyzed. Now you can’t go running off again.”

He dumped me in a water prison, then vanished with a spell.

I lay on the stone floor. Only my hands and neck could move.

I could mend my spiritual meridians, but I needed time.

Just then, Xiao Jingzhe’s junior sect sister, Zhou Ling’er, appeared in a flash.

She was gorgeous too, all righteous bearing. My type.

“You’re the demon woman my senior brother brought back?”

From her perspective, her childhood companion and senior sect brother had disappeared for three years, only to return with a beautiful demon woman.

The classic opening to a romance where the man ends up desperately chasing the woman he’d mistreated. I was the wicked female supporting character.

“That’s me.”

Zhou Ling’er kicked me into the water.

It was bone-chillingly cold, like countless needles stabbing into my body.

She laid a lightning-drawing formation over its surface.

Water torture and lightning torture together. I was in agony.

I floundered in the water for two hours.

Honestly, I was pretty hard to kill.

“Demon woman, you will not disrupt my senior brother’s devotion to the Dao.”

Zhou Ling’er summoned her bonded immortal sword. It shot straight toward my heart.

At the last possible moment, Xiao Jingzhe’s Spirit-Subduing Sword knocked hers aside.

He used a spell to lift me out of the water. I fell into his arms, shaking like a leaf.

Instinctively, I sought warmth, wrapping my arms around his neck and burying my cheek against it.

His arms tightened. He used spiritual energy to dry my clothes and warm my body.

“Demon women put on helpless airs. Seduction is their specialty.”

“Senior Brother, my divination showed that she’d disrupt your cultivation. Let me kill her!”

What an accurate prediction. Taking all his cultivation was exactly what I intended.

But Xiao Jingzhe was bewitched by me and determined to protect me.

“Junior Sister. There will be no next time.”
