Tiezhu hurried over.

“Young Mistress, I think that young man truly doesn’t like you. What are you going to do?”

“Impossible!”

The floating comments said he had fallen for me at first sight. When I confessed that I liked him, he must have been beside himself with joy.

He was simply too proud to admit it.

No matter. I would leave him alone for a few days and see how long he kept pretending.

“Tiezhu, come on. We’re going out drinking!”

I spent three days carousing and did not come home once.

For some reason, none of the men outside did anything for me. Not one was as handsome as Wuming.

After several days of listless amusement, someone smashed up my jewelry shop on the fourth day.

The culprit was a young lady from an official’s family.

I didn’t care whose daughter she was. I charged straight in and fought her.

She clawed my face, but I tore out half her hair, so I certainly didn’t come off worse.

The battle was raging when a servant rushed inside.

“Young Mistress! Wuming says he wants to see you!”

I shoved the woman away at once.

“We’ll continue tomorrow!”

Then I raced home, my heart pounding with excitement.

“Well? Changed your mind?”

I kicked open the door.

Wuming seemed even more beautiful than he had a few days ago. The sight made my heart flutter.

He raised his eyes, then paused.

At that moment, my face was covered in scratches, my clothes were a mess, and my hair resembled a chicken’s nest. Anyone would have stared.

“Ahem.” He recovered, cleared his throat, and turned aside. “I said some unpleasant things to you the other day. I apologize. My injuries were grave, and I did not dare trust anyone easily. In truth, I understand that without you, I would already be dead.”

So he had finally come to his senses.

I knew it. I was his female lead. There was no reason he wouldn’t like me.

“As long as you understand my feelings.”

Delight blossomed inside me, but I refused to let it show. I crossed my arms and looked down at him. “Now that the misunderstanding is settled, let’s arrange our marriage. We’ll marry tomorrow. What do you say?”

“What?”

Surprise crossed his face. A moment later, something flickered in his eyes.

“Very well. We will do as you wish and marry tomorrow. But…”

His gaze deepened. “Could you release me from these chains first? How am I supposed to marry you like this?”

“Well…”

“Don’t worry. I won’t run.” He looked at me and curved his lips. “You saved me. I belong to you now.”

He was devastating when he smiled. My bones practically melted, and every sensible thought flew out of my head.

“All right, all right! I’ll unlock you now!”

Wuming’s legs had not yet healed, and he could not stand for long. That was no problem. He could marry me from a wheelchair.

I found a ready-made set of wedding robes, ordered the servants to decorate the residence, and worked until midnight before going to sleep.

I was exhausted, but happy.

Half because the gold mines were almost within reach, and half because I was finally going to have a family of my own.

Half-asleep, I suddenly sensed someone watching me.

I opened my eyes.

It was Wuming.

The night was dim, and I could not make out his eyes.

Had his legs healed? How was he walking?

Had he come to me because he simply couldn’t wait?

My heart leapt. I sat up and smacked a pill into his mouth.

“Come on, Wuming! I’m ready!”

He was caught off guard and started coughing.

“What—what did you feed me?”

I answered excitedly, “It’s called a Bliss-Together Pill! A love-gu made especially for couples. Once we take it, all five of our senses become linked. When I feel pleasure, so will you. When I hurt, so will you. If I die of pleasure, you’ll feel it too. Come on—let’s enjoy it together!”

I had prepared the pills to spice up our wedding night. Unable to resist, I had already swallowed my half before bed.

“What?”

Wuming stiffened, then quickly sneered. “There is no such thing in this world. You have lied to me too many times. Do you think I would believe you again?”

He closed one hand around my throat.

“Jin Yuse, I had not intended to kill you so soon. But you have provoked me time and again. You have made your own death inevitable.”

My breath vanished, and my mind went blank.

He wanted to kill me? How could that be? Where had everything gone wrong?

Pressure built in my skull. I struggled desperately, but could not force out a single sound.

Then Wuming abruptly released me and clutched his own throat, gasping for air.

“It’s real…”

Disbelief crossed his face. Once he caught his breath, he glared at me viciously.

“Demoness! How do I undo this gu?”
