Chapter 40

I want to be your sugar daddy, but you’re treating me like your actual father?

This was infuriating!

Song Zhengjun’s face was so cold it looked like he had just returned from a research expedition to the Antarctic.

He clenched his jaw, his eyes fixed on Yan Jinge.

Did this man even know how to speak?!

He was half-tempted to go over and kiss him right now just to stop him from talking nonsense ever again!

Yan Jinge had been feeling a bit drowsy, but Song Zhengjun’s death stare perked him up slightly. He blinked, reflecting on the way he had just addressed Song Zhengjun.

In the novels Yan Jinge had read before, many characters used that term directly. Besides that, there were titles like “Godfather,” which seemed quite common in this world.

Sugar daddies were usually coaxed into being very happy by such things…

So why was Song Zhengjun doing the opposite?

Not only did he look displeased, but he was also glaring at him?

Then again, failing to identify exactly what his benefactor wanted was a major professional oversight.

After a moment of thought, Yan Jinge spoke plainly. “Mr. Song, I’m not very experienced in this area. If you have any specific ideas, you can tell me directly, and I’ll do my best to adjust.”

Song Zhengjun’s expression remained frosty, and his beautiful eyes were devoid of emotion.

Since he didn’t state his position, Yan Jinge wasn’t sure if Song Zhengjun actually liked the title or not.

If he didn’t say no, did that mean it was the default?

Recalling the plots of those novels, Yan Jinge walked toward him. His long, straight legs moved at a leisurely pace. Once he reached Song Zhengjun’s side, he came to a stop. “You’ve worked hard today, Daddy. Do you need a massage?”

People who were kept usually showered their sugar daddies with care and concern to show intimacy.

Song Zhengjun: “???”

A massage?

God knows what he was thinking, but Song Zhengjun’s Adam’s apple bobbed once again.

“Yes.”

“Alright, please come this way.” Yan Jinge led Song Zhengjun to a chair. Once Song Zhengjun sat down, Yan Jinge stood behind him and began kneading his shoulders.

Song Zhengjun closed his eyes, enjoying the sensation while thinking that his original plan had indeed been correct. As long as he used a contract to bind Yan Jinge, the man would stay within the boundaries set for him.

When the time came for him to do anything else, he wouldn’t be as passive as he had been years ago.

He really was a genius!

A smirk tugged at the corner of Song Zhengjun’s mouth.

However…

Was the massage Yan Jinge mentioned really just a massage? Nothing else?

Song Zhengjun’s smile faded into a frown of displeasure.

After nearly half an hour of massaging, Yan Jinge hadn’t made any other moves-like letting his hands slip under his clothes or stroking his Adam’s apple.

What was the point of this massage then?

He might as well just go to sleep.

Song Zhengjun waved him off. “That’s enough. Go to bed.”

Yan Jinge gave a soft “mm,” poured a glass of water for Song Zhengjun, brought it to his room, and then turned to leave.

Song Zhengjun was stunned.

“Where are you going?”

“…To sleep. Why? Does Daddy want to hear a bedtime story too?”

“…You’re not sleeping in my room?”

“I’m sorry, but that isn’t in the contract,” Yan Jinge said matter-of-factly.

Song Zhengjun: “…”

A miscalculation!

He had forgotten!

The contract only stated that Yan Jinge had to move into Song Zhengjun’s villa and that Song Zhengjun would be his only benefactor. It didn’t mention providing sexual services at night, nor did it specify what they would do together.

As for the previous world, Yan Jinge had been sent to Third Master Jing’s manor the moment he arrived to marry him. As a married couple, they naturally slept together.

But this time, it was just a sponsorship…

Naturally, he would only follow what was written in the contract.

Song Zhengjun questioned him with a blank face, “In this kind of arrangement, there are obviously requirements that aren’t explicitly written down. Did I have you move into my villa and ensure I’m the only one just so you could live here? Do I look like I’m lacking a roommate?”

“What you have is more than just a roommate.”

At this, Yan Jinge remembered the way he had just addressed Song Zhengjun and suddenly chuckled.

Song Zhengjun clearly thought of the same thing.

His face instantly darkened.

In truth, given Yan Jinge’s position, he shouldn’t have said such things to his “benefactor” to avoid making Song Zhengjun angry and causing the contract to be voided, which would land him back in the gutter.

But for some reason, from the moment he saw Song Zhengjun, Yan Jinge felt that the man…

Was bottomless in his tolerance for him.

No matter what he said or did, as long as he wasn’t physically harming Song Zhengjun, the man wouldn’t truly be furious with him.

Even though Song Zhengjun always looked as cold as frost, the moment Yan Jinge saw him, he couldn’t help but want to tease him. That was why he had said what he did.

Seeing Song Zhengjun looking a bit embarrassed and resentful now, Yan Jinge’s eyes filled with mirth. He didn’t push it further and changed the subject. “It’s very late. You should get some sleep, Mr. Song.” To avoid making Song Zhengjun even angrier, he intentionally avoided that specific title.

“What’s the matter?”

To his surprise, Song Zhengjun actually sneered, “I’m not your ‘Daddy’ anymore?”

Yan Jinge gave him a surprised look.

It seemed the benefactor actually liked being called “Daddy” after all. Yan Jinge smoothly followed his lead. “Alright then. Goodnight, Daddy.”

The door was gently closed.

Fuming, Song Zhengjun grabbed the pillow in front of him and hurled it at the door.

Unfortunately, the soft pillow posed no threat at all. It hit the door without making much of a sound, and Yan Jinge, who had already stepped out, naturally heard nothing.

That night, Yan Jinge lay in bed and scanned the script his manager had sent over. It was called a script, but since Yan Jinge hadn’t officially joined the cast yet, it was only a rough outline.
Yan Jinge had a general idea of how he wanted to proceed.

Since his meeting with the company wasn’t until ten o’clock the next morning and he had stayed up late the night before reading scripts, Yan Jinge didn’t wake up early. Song Zhengjun finished his breakfast alone with a dark expression and headed to the office.

By the time Yan Jinge got up, breakfast was already cold.

The housekeeper reheated the meal for him. She was getting on in years and tended to ramble, but seeing how well-behaved Yan Jinge was, she couldn’t help but comment, “I don’t know what’s wrong with Mr. Song today, but he seemed to be in a very bad mood.”

Yan Jinge gave a small smile but didn’t respond.

He spent almost the entire day at the company.

Previously, he lacked the skills and the background to succeed. Despite having a handsome face, he had no resources and was stuck with a third-rate agent. To remedy this, Song Zhengjun had specifically sent over a team.

These people were efficient and decisive. After explaining their purpose, they immediately took charge of Yan Jinge’s affairs. They analyzed the pros and cons of various scripts and mapped out his future career development. From start to finish, they hardly gave anyone else a chance to speak, acting for all intents and purposes like Yan Jinge’s new management team.

If it weren’t for the fact that Yan Jinge was still under contract, they likely would have signed him away on the spot.

Yan Jinge’s current agent didn’t dare offend the big shots Song Zhengjun had sent. He hovered nearby, cautiously playing the role of a glorified errand boy, though his eyes were filled with resentment.

By the time the various details were settled, it was already late.

The leader of the group, a man named Lin Jiu, checked the time and stood up. “That covers the basic workflow for now. Mr. Yan, we will be responsible for your future development in the entertainment industry. If you have any ideas or questions, feel free to consult us; you’ve already added our contact information. Now, the timing is just right. Please come with us.”

Yan Jinge looked up. “Where to?”

Lin Jiu’s expression was perfectly natural. “To pick up Chairman Song from work, of course.”

Yan Jinge: “???”

Seeing Yan Jinge’s strange expression, Lin Jiu added, “Chairman Song specifically instructed me.” As if afraid Yan Jinge wouldn’t believe him, he pulled out his phone and showed him a message.

[Have Yan Jinge come pick me up from work.]

The sender was listed as Chairman Song, and the style was indeed typical of Song Zhengjun.

Concise.

Yan Jinge found it somewhat baffling-they were adults leaving work, not kindergarteners being picked up from school. Why did he need a ride? However, considering he had signed a contract with Song Zhengjun and the man was technically his benefactor, picking him up from work was a small enough request. He said goodbye to his agent and followed them out.

Behind him, the agent watched Yan Jinge’s retreating back with a cold, dark gaze.

Only when he was leaving did Yan Jinge remember he had an agent and think to say goodbye? When decisions were being made earlier, the boy hadn’t consulted him once. What was he supposed to be, a piece of furniture?

Heh.

To think he had even tried to give Yan Jinge a few pointers yesterday, telling him to remember who looked out for him. Now, Yan Jinge had gone back on his word, treating the people Song Zhengjun sent as his own team.

The agent believed that while he hadn’t helped Yan Jinge much in his career, it was only because Yan Jinge lacked talent. Besides, he was the one who introduced him to Director Chen. It was only because Yan Jinge followed Director Chen to that hotel that he met Song Zhengjun in the first place.

In other words, he was the one who paved the way for Yan Jinge!

Otherwise, how could Yan Jinge have been lucky enough to latch onto a powerhouse like Song Zhengjun?

And yet, look at Yan Jinge. The moment he moved up in the world, he stopped showing any respect to his agent.

Did he really think a sparrow could become a phoenix just by flying to a higher branch?

Just wait until Chairman Song gets tired of you. Let’s see what you do then!

However, the agent had no intention of continuing to cling to this ungrateful wretch. He knew perfectly well that even if he wanted to, Yan Jinge probably wouldn’t allow it.

He wasn’t stupid enough to keep slaving away only for others to reap the rewards! The agent began calculating how to siphon resources away from Yan Jinge to cultivate his other artists-artists who would actually be grateful to him. He started contacting several production crews for dinner meetings, inviting his other talents along.

“These few are loyal to me, but they’re just so useless. Why couldn’t one of them have climbed onto Chairman Song’s branch? Hmph, what a waste to let that Yan Jinge have it!”

***

On the other side of town, Yan Jinge arrived at Song Zhengjun’s company with Lin Jiu.

Lin Jiu was only responsible for dropping him off. As the car stopped, he said, “I’ve already spoken to the front desk. You can go straight up.”

“Alright,” Yan Jinge replied.

Yan Jinge entered through the main entrance. The receptionist glanced at him and, seemingly recognizing him, didn’t block his way. She even gave him a small smile.

Yan Jinge nodded in acknowledgment and headed to the floor Lin Jiu had mentioned.

As soon as he stepped out, he saw Song Zhengjun, dressed in a sharp suit, walking toward the elevators with his long legs. His presence was so commanding that even though he was surrounded by three other people, Yan Jinge’s eyes were immediately drawn to him.

As he strode forward, the people beside him hurried to keep pace, quickly delivering their work reports.

Their eyes met.

Song Zhengjun feigned ignorance of how he had gotten there. He knitted his brows and teased, “What are you doing here? Even if we haven’t seen each other all day, there was no need to rush over to pick me up.”

“I’m an adult. I can get home on my own.”

Yan Jinge blinked slowly.

…If Lin Jiu hadn’t shown him that text message, he might have actually believed Song Zhengjun’s nonsense.
