Seventh Security Bureau: Ningzhi - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
A new intern started at my brother’s company.
I nudged my brother for gossip: “What kind of intern?”
My brother: “Got an assistant.”
I was taken aback: “What kind of big shot needs an assistant?”
My brother sighed: “You don’t need one. I do. I don’t want to pull another all-nighter doing your spreadsheets.”
I laughed sheepishly.
Sorry, Onii-chan~
A bad feeling crept over me.
And sure enough, it came true the moment the intern arrived.
Oh, wow. Of course it’s Xu Pianpian.
Xu Pianpian was dressed in a JK uniform today, a stark contrast to the rest of the office.
My brother stepped out of my office and ran straight into Xu Pianpian.
In the hallway, their eyes met.
The System made a snide remark: [See? The male and female leads are destined to fall in love.]
I voiced my doubt: “Really?”
Xu Pianpian stopped in front of my brother, her lashes curled, her gaze innocent, her knees pressed together in the pigeon-toed pose typical of a shoujo manga heroine.
My brother looked at her, a hint of confusion in his eyes.
Xu Pianpian shot me a sly, triumphant look, as if to provoke me.
She bit her lip, and in a clear, stubborn voice said, “President Lin, I earned this job through my own hard work.”
My brother nodded, seeming somewhat moved. “Hard work is good.
“But I’m a little curious, aren’t you cold? It’s below freezing outside, and you came to work dressed like that? You must be freezing your ass off.
“Don’t come back. I’m afraid you’ll get frostbite so bad you lose a limb, and that’d be a work injury.”
The System went silent. The System crashed.
System: [Is your brother sick or something?]
Me: “You’re the one who’s sick!”
My brother is just a normal guy, okay!
Over there, Xu Pianpian immediately burst into tears.
My brother jumped back like a martial artist.
“This ain’t my fault!”
Xu Pianpian glared at me indignantly: “Just because I’ve had a conflict with your sister, you’re going to humiliate me like this?
“Am I not born of father and mother?”
My brother didn’t respond, which pissed me off.
Come on, Onii-chan, are you seriously going to be swayed by that moronic logic?
The System, seeming to have found its springtime again, giggled: “Your brother doesn’t want you anymore!”
The next second, my brother spoke with a skeptical and uncertain tone: “You were born from your father?
“Your dad’s really something.”
As expected of my brother, always spotting the blind spots.
Xu Pianpian’s internship died an early death. She left with a face full of tears.
“Xu Pianpian, stay strong! Don’t let these people beat you down. You’re the best!”
She scampered off, leaving the security guard at the gate dumbfounded.
My brother watched her retreating figure in silence for a long while, then took out his phone:
“Transfer me to HR.
“How are you finding these interns? Why are you bringing in every fool and halfwit off the street?”
My brother clearly didn’t take Xu Pianpian to heart, and quickly threw himself back into work.
[He still doesn’t know that from the moment he met the female lead, his fate would take a sharp turn.]
[From then on, a light was lit in his life.]
The System started reciting this “clunk” literature in my ear again.
It made my heart go “clunk-clunk” like a bicycle chain that hadn’t been oiled.
I asked the System: “What exactly do you do, anyway?”
I’ve read a whole day of female supporting character system novels. These systems are either in charge of conquest, or face-slapping, or changing fate.
But this System on me, I feel like it’s totally useless.
No missions, no golden finger.
Besides watching TV, it does absolutely nothing.
The System got agitated.
[I’m not completely useless!]
“Then tell me, what use are you?”
“Didn’t I tell you the plot?”
That’s what ticks me off even more!
“Which part of the plot you told me has ever come true?”
The System sounded a bit guilty. The more guilty it felt, the louder it got, making my head buzz.
“If the plot doesn’t match, can you blame me? That’s on the female lead for being off!”
It said that the female lead also had a Male Lead Seduction System bound to her, but she just hadn’t succeeded yet.
“So you guys came as a team?”
That thought sent chills down my spine: “My brother doesn’t have a system too, does he?”
What if my brother’s system was forcing him to follow the plot with Xu Pianpian?
The mere thought of Xu Pianpian becoming my sister-in-law made my skin crawl.
It was as disgusting and nauseating as a cockroach crawling up my pant leg, and when I missed catching it, I panicked and opened my mouth wide, and it crawled right in.
So I sneaked into my brother’s office furtively.
My brother seemed to have eyes in the back of his head:
“I’m busy. There’re new snacks in the cabinet. Grab whatever you want.”
He was glued to his computer, typing away furiously, with no idea what he was busy with.
The cabinet was half files and half my snacks and dolls, creating a mismatched, chaotic harmony.
“Bro, what do you think of Xu Pianpian?”
My brother didn’t look up.
“Who’s Xu Pianpian?”
“That intern?”
He sighed and turned to look at me wearily.
“Don’t just jabber on about nothing. With all these interns in the company, you think I know every single one?”
I ran over and crouched beside his desk: “The one in the short skirt today.”
My brother did a tactical lean-back.
“Don’t tell me you want to wear that kind of short skirt. If I catch you wearing that in this freezing weather, I’ll break your legs!”
Me: Sob sob!
