Sharing One Life with My Nemesis - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
The Soulbound Gu writhed in Xie Huaiyan’s blood.
I could feel something being torn, bit by bit, from my heart.
It hurt.
But it also made me feel lighter.
As if the rope around my neck had finally loosened by an inch.
Black Cloak’s expression changed drastically.
“Are you insane? With Dual Gu inside you, your heart meridians will be hollowed out.”
Xie Huaiyan braced himself against the wall and stood.
“Then I should hurry.”
“Hurry and do what?”
“Hurry and kill you all.”
He picked up an iron spike from the ground and hurled it at Black Cloak.
Black Cloak dodged the fatal spot, but his shoulder was still pierced through and pinned.
Lu Xingzhou drew his sword.
I rolled away from his leg and, in the same motion, pulled the dagger from his boot and drove it hard into his calf.
He cried out in pain, and his sword edge veered off course.
Xie Huaiyan lunged forward and slammed him into the wall.
The impact made my own chest tighten.
Xie Huaiyan looked back at me.
“Still linked?”
I gritted my teeth.
“Obviously.”
“Bear with it.”
“If you get hurt less, I’ll have less to bear.”
He actually laughed.
Those two lines made Lu Xingzhou’s face turn livid with rage.
“How deeply devoted you two are.”
I kicked him in his injured leg.
“Shut up.”
Shouts of battle suddenly rang out outside.
Ah Man had escaped.
The Ministry of Justice had arrived.
Lu Xingzhou finally panicked.
He grabbed Black Cloak and shoved him in front as a shield.
“Stop them!”
Black Cloak stared at him in disbelief.
The next instant, Lu Xingzhou drove his sword into Black Cloak’s back.
“You’re useless now too.”
When Black Cloak fell, his cloak slipped open.
I saw his face clearly, and my whole body went rigid.
It was Zhou Xuan, the Chief Imperial Physician from the palace.
In my previous life, he was the one who had examined my father’s body and declared that he had “taken poison out of fear of punishment,” cutting off the Jiang Family’s last chance to defend itself.
Xie Huaiyan recognized him too.
He immediately searched Zhou Xuan’s sleeve pocket.
Inside was a stack of prescriptions and a Gu Manual.
There was also a handwritten letter from the Crown Prince.
Lu Xingzhou tried to snatch them, but I stopped him.
He looked at me, his eyes red.
“Jiang Tingyun, how am I inferior to him?”
The question was so absurd that I even laughed.
“Do you really want to know?”
He stared at me.
I said, “You’re not worthy of being compared to him.”
Lu Xingzhou’s face twisted. He raised his hand, about to grab my throat.
Xie Huaiyan caught him by the back of the neck and smashed him hard into the stone wall.
As Lu Xingzhou collapsed, the Ministry of Justice officers rushed into the stone chamber.
The man leading them was Gu Heng, the Minister of Justice.
When he saw Xie Huaiyan, his brows drew together.
“Xie Huaiyan, weren’t you in death row?”
Xie Huaiyan was covered in blood, yet he still remembered to bow.
“My lord, death row was a little drafty, so I came out to deliver evidence.”
Gu Heng’s expression was truly something to behold.
I handed him the bamboo tube and the Crown Prince’s letter together.
“Lord Gu, the evidence for the Jiang Family Case is here.”
Gu Heng took them. After reading only a few lines, his expression changed.
Lu Xingzhou was still struggling on the ground.
“Fake! It’s all forged!”
Gu Heng said coldly, “Take him away.”
The officers seized Lu Xingzhou.
Before he was dragged out the door, he suddenly turned back to look at me.
“Jiang Tingyun, you’ll regret this.”
I said nothing.
Xie Huaiyan asked quietly, “Are you scared?”
I shook my head.
“I’m just a little hungry.”
He froze.
I looked at his deathly pale face.
“And I also kind of want to beat you up.”
Xie Huaiyan’s eyes curved faintly.
The next moment, he collapsed.
