Chapter 1

Plenty of people always assumed Song Qiao’an was the pretty little canary I kept.

He was three years younger than me, handsome, fair-skinned, and looked obedient. Even at over six feet tall, he somehow had no edge to him at all.

Every day, he called me “babe” in that sweet, syrupy voice of his, like a well-behaved, clingy puppy.

“Babe, you’re home.”

The moment I pushed open the front door, Song Qiao’an took off his apron and came over, pulling me straight into his arms.

The young man’s fluffy head buried itself in my shoulder as he mumbled, acting spoiled.

“I haven’t seen you all day. I missed you so much.”

My assistant, who was standing beside me, looked away with practiced ease and placed my briefcase on the shoe rack by the entrance.

“Boss, I’ll be going now.”

The poor corporate worker took one step back and shut the front door without the slightest change in expression.

Seeing that, I couldn’t help laughing as I rubbed Song Qiao’an’s reddening ear. “Why are you always feeding my assistant dog food?”

My younger boyfriend was clingy, but he also got embarrassed easily.

When we first started dating, he would blush just from wanting to kiss me.

His personality hadn’t changed, so when had he developed this habit of showing off our relationship in front of others?

Song Qiao’an let go of me, then effortlessly lifted me onto his forearm and carried me to the dining room.

He lowered his head and nipped my lip, grumbling in a needy voice, “Because you’re too amazing. I want everyone to know you’re with me.”

The little puppy drooped his tail in grievance, looking at me with damp, pitiful eyes.

Amused, I rubbed his head. “You’re the one I like most.”

The insecure puppy heard the sweet words, and his eyes instantly lit up again.

He leaned in for kisses and hugs for quite a while before finally returning to his dining chair in satisfaction and starting dinner with me.

Thinking of all the rumors constantly flying around the company, I stared at Song Qiao’an’s bare fingers for a long moment, and a thought suddenly occurred to me.

We had been dating for three years and living together for two. The number of times we’d argued could be counted on two hands. We got along so well we were practically an old married couple.

And yet even my business partners thought Song Qiao’an was my canary, beating around the bush to ask when I planned on changing my tastes.

Song Qiao’an worked from home every day. Hearing all those rumors really would make him feel uneasy.

How about… I propose?

The moment the idea came to me, I secretly instructed my assistant to book me into the soonest small-scale auction I could get into.

I was an impatient person by nature, always rushing from one thing to the next. I really couldn’t wait for a custom piece, so buying a famous finished piece would be much faster.

As luck would have it, I heard the Crown Prince of the Beijing Circle would also be attending this auction. To please him, the organizers had brought out plenty of fine items, so I didn’t have to worry that everything would be ugly.

I lied and said I was going on a business trip, then moved out of the house. While doing my proposal research, I also started setting up the scene at a newly bought villa.

On the day of the auction, I even deliberately switched to a new car, just in case Song Qiao’an happened to see me outside and I couldn’t explain it away.

The auction itself wasn’t large, but because the Crown Prince of the Beijing Circle was coming, nearly everyone who mattered had shown up.

To better receive their distinguished guest, the organizers specially held a small banquet before the auction for the guests to discuss business and build connections.

I had come to the auction with a purpose, so I didn’t immediately go socialize with them. Instead, I hid in a corner and studied the exhibit list.

After silently confirming a few targets in my mind, I took out my phone to make notes.

Just then, a message from Song Qiao’an popped up.

[Babe, when are you coming back? I miss you so much.]

Attached was a puppy sticker.

The thought of that pitiful face of his made my heart soften.

[I miss you too. Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon.]

And I’ll bring you a huge surprise.

I didn’t send that last sentence.

Song Qiao’an immediately sent two more puppy stickers acting spoiled.

[Then I’ll wait at home for you to come back.]

Look at that. Just look at that. With such an obedient boyfriend, of course I had to hurry up and take him home for good!

In the bustling banquet hall, I held it in for ages before I finally managed not to grin too obviously.

Just as I was about to send one last reply and slip my phone back into my clutch…

Not far away, a scream drew everyone’s attention.

I instinctively covered my phone and looked up toward the commotion.

A face so familiar I couldn’t possibly mistake it crashed into my line of sight without warning.

I sucked in a sharp breath and stood, staring carefully.

…My eyes weren’t playing tricks on me, were they?

My younger boyfriend, who had just been sending me spoiled puppy stickers on my phone, was now dressed in a black suit, surrounded by people as if he were the center of the universe. Not far in front of him, a young woman lay on the floor, sobbing.

His expression was cold and stern. There was none of the gentle harmlessness he showed in front of me. Instead, he looked aloof and intimidating, his presence overwhelming.

The girl on the ground kept crying, but he didn’t bother with her at all. He merely lowered his head and fiddled with his phone.

Instead, one of the lackeys beside him couldn’t help speaking up. “This is our Little Crown Prince of the Beijing Circle. You came up and treated him like some pervert, even tried to slap him. Can you afford to offend him?”
