Chapter 3

I had just stepped out of the room when Shen Jing came rushing over.

He seemed to have run the whole way; his face was drenched in sweat as he frantically checked me over. “Are you okay? Did you get hurt?”

I pulled out a tissue to wipe his sweat. “I’m fine. He told me to quit while I was ahead, so I gave him a piece of my mind and flicked him on the forehead.”

Hearing this, he finally let out a sigh of relief, a smile returning to his face. “Impressive. How did he react?”

We chatted as we walked. “I didn’t look. I was afraid he’d hit me, so I just turned and left. Honestly, Fu Han is a total psycho. Who draws the curtains in broad daylight? He’s like a vampire.”

He chimed in immediately, “Right? You think he’s a bit of an edgelord too?”

I nodded understandingly. “Ah, so that’s what it is. No wonder. He actually said something like, ‘Woman, you’re provoking me.’ Even elementary schoolers don’t talk like that anymore.”

A sudden, violent coughing fit erupted behind us.

I looked back to see Fu Han and his subordinates following us.

Fu Han’s face was as dark as the bottom of a charred pot, while the man in black next to him had coughed until his face was beet red.

Badmouthing the protagonist right to his face-Shen Jing and I really were becoming a Villain couple.

Shen Jing’s smile remained fixed, his expression unruffled. “CEO Fu, it really has been a long time.”

Fu Han’s expression was grim, but he didn’t say a word.

Where had the bravado he used to threaten and intimidate me gone?

He only knew how to bully the weak.

Shen Jing wrapped an arm around my shoulder. “CEO Fu sure enjoys having private chats with other people’s girlfriends. How about I have a chat with yours next time?”

His words were biting, his tone mocking as he intentionally exaggerated, “Oh, I forgot. CEO Fu doesn’t have a girlfriend. Your ex-girlfriend had high standards, and that little starlet you’re chasing now is just a cheap knockoff. The quality is… lacking.”

Fu Han snapped instantly. His expression darkened, his eyes filling with a murderous aura. “Shen Jing, you’re really asking for death. I’ll make you pay the price.”

“You’re welcome to try.” The smile remained on Shen Jing’s face, but his gaze was bone-chillingly cold. “Cancan is a kind soul; she only gave you a flick on the forehead. If it were me, I’d have your head taken off and kicked around like a ball.”

Listening to Shen Jing, I felt like he was leaning more and more into his Villain persona lately.

Their confrontation ended with Shen Jing’s complete victory. Before leaving, Shen Jing threw out one last incredibly petty remark: “By the way, stay away from our Best Actress. I’m afraid you’ll fall in love with her. After all, she’s hundreds of times prettier than your ex and her knockoff.”

I poked him in the waist and whispered, “That’s rude.”

He laughed and shouted back without turning around, “Cancan says I’m being rude! CEO Fu, your ex and her knockoff are both quite pretty!”

That shout drew the attention of quite a few staff members.

Ignoring everyone, Shen Jing kissed the top of my head and said with absolute sincerity, “But Su Cancan is the prettiest.”

After this incident, I demanded that Shen Jing return my SIM card. Upon re-entering the digital age, the first thing I did was check the recent news.

A few major things had happened involving me:

Headline Number One: Heir of the Shen Group and Best Actress Su Cancan Caught Living Together; Su Cancan Suspected to be a Kept Lover.

It was accompanied by several photos of Shen Jing and me heading home with his arms around me.

The comment section was exploding. Some were hurling insults, some were rationally waiting for the truth, and others were wailing in grief that their goddess had a boyfriend.

Headline Number Two: Su Cancan Uses Status as Financial Backer’s Lover to Suppress Junior Actresses.

There were no photos for this one, but there was a handwritten letter from a minor actress. However, looking at the comments below, the credibility of this news wasn’t very high.

I didn’t even know I had done this myself.

The third major piece of news: Shen Jing had released a statement officially announcing his five-year relationship with Su Cancan.

This was the Weibo post Shen Jing had shared himself:

“She is my Lover, my sweetheart, and most importantly, my beloved. We will have many more five-year milestones to come.”

He had attached several photos of us together over the past five years, including both professional shots and candid glimpses of our daily lives.

Public opinion on the internet shifted rapidly, moving from initial skepticism to blessings and envy.

Shen Jing was a flashy person; he had even posted updates on international social media platforms.

He even used my account to post a Weibo saying, “I love Shen Jing the most.”

There was a ridiculous sense of the whole world knowing we were official while I, the person involved, remained in the dark.

It was official, but not quite official.

He and I had never actually defined our relationship. In the beginning, I thought he was just promoting me for fun. Later, my heart was moved, and so was his. Nature took its course, and we became intimate. We lived like this for five years, inseparable every day, virtually indistinguishable from a real couple. It was just that neither of us ever brought up the question of whether we were actually dating.

He didn’t say anything, and I didn’t ask.

In truth, I was someone who lacked a sense of security. The more I liked someone, the less I dared to get close.

If he had pursued me, I might have run away, simply out of fear of losing him after having him.

Shen Jing was a strange man. He said nothing, yet he spent time with me like a normal boyfriend-accompanying me to film sets, sending flowers and gifts, grocery shopping and cooking with me when he was free, and then cuddling up at home to read books or watch movies. From time to time, he would take me on trips.

So, saying I was his Lover wasn’t entirely wrong.

Every time, I thought I couldn’t possibly love him more, knowing that falling deeper would do me no good. Yet, he was like a virus; I couldn’t control my love for him. Now that he had officially announced our relationship, I felt both annoyed and amused, but I didn’t feel any discomfort.

This man was meticulous. I was completely trapped by him.

After reading about myself, I searched for Qiao Ruoshui.

I finally understood why Fu Han had been in such a hurry to threaten me.

A photo of Qiao Ruoshui being pinned against a wall and forcibly kissed by Fu Han had been leaked online. Only the face of the Female Lead was clear, so everyone was speculating about the man’s identity, waiting for the blogger to release more information.

Since Fu Han’s identity hadn’t been exposed yet, I didn’t have to worry about my personal information being leaked for now.

Both sides held leverage over each other; neither could make a reckless move.

Shen Jing leaned over, glanced at the content on my phone, and gave a playful smile. “What do you think Qiao Ruoshui is thinking right now?”

“She’s probably thinking about whether her future is ruined,” I said, pressing my lips together. “It’s really not worth having your career destroyed by a man.”

I thought about how, in the book, Fu Han always treated her as a substitute, forcing kisses on her and disregarding her dreams. He treated everyone else with indifference and contempt. How could anyone like such a disgusting, overbearing man?

Furthermore, in the original plot, he was the one who ruined my face and incited cyberviolence against me.

Even now, though I hadn’t slapped Qiao Ruoshui on purpose, he still wouldn’t let it go and had leaked those so-called scandals about me.

I felt sorry for Qiao Ruoshui.

With someone as domineering, cold, and vindictive as Fu Han, being loved by him would be a form of torture.

I began searching for Qiao Ruoshui’s contact information on my phone. “Jing, we should give Fu Han a lesson.”

A faint smile played on Shen Jing’s lips, his eyes curving into crescents. He was neither surprised nor opposed. “Alright.”

Fu Han was welcome to leak my identity and personal details. He could find as many people as he wanted to harass me online.

But I would make sure he paid a much more painful price.
