Chapter 103

Wh-what?

He wanted her…

He wanted her to take the initiative to kiss him?

“Is he… is he joking?” she muttered, her face flushing with embarrassment.

Her brows knit together until they were almost a single line.

“Is there anything else? Besides that?”

Her lips pressed into a tight line, and the tips of her ears turned a shade of red. Still, she forced her voice to remain steady as she asked, “Is there no other way?”

He remained with his head bowed.

Holding her hand, he stood silently in place, motionless, like a black sculpture.

“He said… this is… the only… way left.”

Under the bright sunlight, the silver mask buried in the shadows of his black hood looked exceptionally cold.

“He said… before the moon set… sets, if you don’t… don’t kiss.”

“Then… this… this only remaining wa… way… will also disappear.”

The mask that had been tilted toward the grass slowly rose.

Empty golden eyes were hidden beneath long, straight lashes, seemingly carrying a trace of a mocking smile.

Beili took a deep breath. She really wanted to punch him.

…

By the time the Royal Knights brought the two of them back to the Hunting Ground Camp on horseback, the sun’s rays had slanted significantly. The light falling across the mountain forests was dyed a shade of orange-red.

The tents at the Hunting Ground Camp had all been set up.

Inside the largest main tent in the center, three rows of long, low tables were arranged.

Covered in dark red tablecloths with gold patterns, the tables were laden with golden, glistening roasted meats, fresh fruits, delicate sweet pastries, and barrel after barrel of wine.

The seats for the King and the Prince were set apart at the head of the tables.

The Nobles had already begun to take their seats.

Beili moved through the crowd and sat in the empty seat next to Madam Constance.

A figure in a black robe, face covered by a silver mask, also slowly stepped into the tent.

It was no exaggeration to say that the sound of talking and laughing inside the tent diminished by half the moment he appeared.

More than half the people cast intermittent glances toward him, though they didn’t dare be too blatant about it; after all, he was the Second Prince of the Imperial Palace.

While the tents were being pitched, those few loud cracks of the whip had served as a warning to everyone.

But this Second Prince was simply too mysterious.

He had appeared overnight.

There had been no warning or news whatsoever.

Even after his appearance, His Majesty the King had made no announcement.

Some of the more poorly informed Nobles had only found out today that the Sainthos Imperial Palace had gained a Second Prince.

However, knowing late didn’t change much.

Even those who had received the news early still didn’t know the appearance or even the name of this high-ranking Second Prince.

He took his seat on the other side of His Majesty the King.

The King tapped his wine glass, and the Nobles seated at the long tables fell silent.

His Majesty spoke a few words of blessing, then raised his glass, signaling the start of the banquet.

The Nobles at the long tables also raised their glasses, offering blessings to the Santos Kingdom and the Royal Family.

And so, everyone began to enjoy the feast laid out before them amidst laughter and conversation.

A musical troupe in the corner began to play a cheerful melody.

The sounds of talk and laughter blended with the music, creating a boisterous atmosphere.

…

The Duke had already begun serving meat to Susanna.

On the other side, Madam Constance leaned in close to Bartholomew’s face, pointing at the two large platters of roasted meat in the center as she asked, “Luoluo, would you like roasted beef or roasted lamb? Mother will cut it for you.”

Beili looked at the two large platters of meat, which were covered in spices and garlic slices.

Even though she wanted to eat them, she inexplicably shook her head.

“I don’t want either. Mother, I just want something light.”

After she spoke, she frowned slightly and subconsciously looked toward the black-clad figure sitting at the head of the table to her right.

The youth in the silver mask sat quietly beside the King.

Even though the servants had already placed meat and vegetables in his bowl, he simply sat upright without making any move to pick up his utensils.

He seemed to notice her gaze.

The cold, hard lines of the metal mask tilted slightly.

Those empty golden eyes ‘looked’ toward her with unerring precision.

Beili immediately retracted her gaze.

Her red eyes looked down.

Feeling somewhat flustered, she raised a hand and rubbed the tip of her nose, which had suddenly started to itch.

Madam Constance assumed Bartholomew had lost her appetite from the long carriage ride.

Thus, she used a bowl to serve her some fish and mushroom stew, added some potatoes and vegetables mixed with cream, and then peeled some fruit and placed it in a small bowl.

Everything was light and mild.

“Is this enough, Luoluo?” Madam Constance asked.

Beili nodded gently, picked up the silver spoon on the table, and began to eat slowly.

…

The setting sun disappeared with its last glimmer of twilight.

All that remained was the rising moon and a deep blue night sky.

Just as hungry stomachs were being filled with delicious dishes and the atmosphere of the banquet inside the tent became incredibly lively, the musical troupe in the corner suddenly changed their style.

The music became passionate, fiery, and seductive.

Soon, a group of dancers with graceful figures, wearing dresses adorned with beads, tassels, and feathers, slowly stepped into the tent to the crisp sound of bells jingling at their ankles, swaying in beautiful poses.
