Chapter 108

Beili had to go.

She still needed to help Ashera gain favor with Susanna.

In the original story, Ashera would be drawn to Susanna and pursue her. It seemed that the current Ashera still wanted to win Susanna’s heart.

It wasn’t surprising that this was happening.

The reason her emotions had been so volatile last night was because she knew Ashera’s miserable death in the original book. Even though the story had already undergone massive changes, she discovered that Ashera was still stepping onto that same dead-end path.

That was why she couldn’t control her anger.

That was it. It had to be.

And so, after a night’s sleep, Beili had figured it out again.

He could chase his female lead, and she could increase her Mana; the two didn’t conflict. She just needed to treat this as a mission, devoid of any personal feelings.

So, today’s plan was-find a way to make Ashera the one Susanna danced with.

Taking the bow and arrows prepared by Lady Constance, Beili excitedly lifted the tent flap and stepped out.

As soon as she looked up, she saw a dark figure.

There was no telling how long he had been waiting.

The youth raised his head. Beneath a cold-lined silver mask, hollow golden eyes ‘looked’ toward her.

“You’re just in time.”

Seeing him, Beili’s red eyes flickered slightly as she walked over quickly.

The youth habitually reached out his hand toward her, but it was soon ruthlessly pressed back to his side.

His golden eyes lowered, his eyelashes trembling slightly.

“You stay in the camp today and wait for me to win the spot as Susanna’s dance partner for you.”

Beili patted his shoulder. “Even though I woke up late, I still have a chance of winning.”

Because Cyril was so popular, Susanna would have to get incredibly lucky and hunt a large animal to stand a chance.

Coincidentally, Susanna possessed exactly that kind of ‘lucky koi’ fortune.

Therefore, Beili needed to find Susanna and cause a disturbance nearby.

“Alright, I’m off.”

After Beili finished speaking, she turned and left, leaving the youth no time to speak at all.

…

When the Knights brought her to the area designated for the children’s hunt, she happened to see a group of people gathered together in a noisy commotion.

The Knight who had escorted ‘Bartholomew’ clearly didn’t want to linger in such a chaotic environment.

After dropping her off at a distance, the Knight immediately pulled the reins and turned to leave.

After the horse had only taken a few steps, he urgently pulled the reins to a halt.

“Second Prince…”

The Knight spoke in a flustered tone.

Hearing the Knight’s voice, Beili was slightly stunned.

Turning around, she saw the youth in black robes, wearing a silver mask, standing not far away.

Motionless and silent, he ‘watched’ in her direction.

The Knight dismounted and knelt on one knee.

“Second Prince, is there anything I can do for you?” he asked respectfully.

Beneath the cold silver mask, the person addressed as the Second Prince did not make a sound.

He simply raised his hand and gave a light wave-still a gesture of dismissal.

The Knight had no choice but to stand up, remount his horse, and depart.

What is Ashera doing following me here…

Beili frowned slightly.

Then, a sudden realization struck her.
She had heard the crowd discussing Susanna’s arrow wound while shifting the blame onto one another.

So… this guy could sense that Susanna was injured from such a distance?

Beili’s red eyes flickered. Having made up her mind, she immediately waved toward the dark figure.

The youth stepped forward and walked to her side.

He reached out again.

He proactively reached his hand toward the girl.

Beili grabbed his wrist and pulled him in front of the crowd.

“The Second Prince is here. Everyone, disperse,”

she said, her voice cold and stern.

A few people, whose whip wounds had not yet scabbed over, were the first to react as if triggered by the title ‘Second Prince.’

They scurried away, keeping a wide berth.

Then there were the three girls from the Bird Family. Upon hearing Bartholomew’s voice, their shoulders trembled, and they walked away with hateful glares.

The crowd thinned out.

Susanna was sitting on the ground, leaning against a tree. Her face was pale as she clutched her bleeding arm.

A faint green glow emanated from her palm.

She was treating herself.

“Susanna, are you alright?”

Beili let go of the youth’s hand and walked over to Susanna, her tone turning concerned.

Susanna looked up. Seeing Sister Bartholomew, a hint of grievance and helplessness appeared in her light-colored eyes.

“Sister, I… I’m fine,” she said softly.

“Don’t force yourself.”

Beili crouched down, looking at the wounded arm. After a moment of thought, she added, “If you need it, the Second Prince can take you back to the camp.”

Susanna’s pale gaze shifted to the masked youth standing behind Bartholomew. “Thank you for your concern, Second Prince… I’ve already stopped the bleeding. I don’t need to return to camp for now.”

“Susanna, the Second Prince will stay here to keep you company. While you’re healing, you can tell him exactly what happened. For instance…”

Beili’s red eyes swept over the surroundings as she said meaningfully, “What was happening around you just before that arrow grazed your arm?”

A few figures standing nearby, who had been coldly spectating, turned away uneasily and slipped away after hearing Bartholomew’s words.

…

The Second Prince…

Staying to keep her company while she healed?

A flicker of surprise and gratitude couldn’t help but rise in Susanna’s eyes.

She nodded hesitantly and whispered, “Alright…”

Beili breathed a sigh of relief. She felt she had read the situation well, easily creating an opportunity for Ashera to spend some time alone with Susanna.

She gave a small smile.

Then, turning back, she brushed the back of the youth’s hand, signaling that he was free to take it from here.

“…”

The figure in the black robe stood behind the girl.

His hand-the one clad in a black glove that fit snugly against his knuckles-remained frozen in mid-air.

His hollow golden eyes looked down.

The cold-lined silver mask on his face tilted slightly.

He seemed caught in some kind of confusion.

Beili cleared her throat and said in a voice as faint as a mosquito’s buzz, “Don’t just stand there like an idiot. You can go sit next to Susanna.”

“Wh… y…”

“What?”

Beneath the mask, the youth let out a whisper so soft it was almost inaudible.

“Why… has the anger… disappeared…”
