Chapter 138

Seeing the girl’s skeptical expression, the Information Broker’s eyes flickered slightly as he lowered his head and pulled a small booklet from his pocket.

“If you have doubts about my intelligence, you can send someone to find the names and addresses in this booklet. They are all servants who once served Bertie Swan.”

“They have already changed their names. Some are still staying in nearby towns, while a few have returned to the Imperial City and are living in the commoner district.”

“However, I’m not sure if they’ll still be in their original locations after this investigation,” the Information Broker said in a low voice. “I only pray that the sharp blade that struck the Flea Nest didn’t affect them.”

Her red eyes devoid of emotion, Beili took the booklet from the Information Broker’s hand.

She knew the Information Broker’s news wouldn’t be fake. If he had just made up a lie to fool her, the Flea Nest wouldn’t have encountered such a catastrophe.

It was just that the information she had gathered was still incomplete.

Beili could only make bold conjectures based on the clues she already knew-

Perhaps.

The Swan Family had vanished because of that prophecy, and most of the family members were dead.

But Bertie Swan had not died.

She might have been detained somewhere, losing her freedom of movement and remaining in a state of isolation for a long time.

Then, together with someone, she gave birth to a baby girl.

The baby girl was sent away.

Then, through Doctor Cassius, she arrived at Duke Constance’s castle in Butterfly Valley and was named Susanna.

…

So, did Doctor Cassius know Bertie Swan?

No, no…

Beili shook her head, pulling back her thoughts before they drifted too far.

Because the current focus should be on what Bertie Swan had foreseen in that Royal Family prophecy.

Beili had a premonition.

Bertie Swan’s prophecy concerned the Demon’s heart.

…

Beili tucked the booklet into her Spatial Bracelet and said in a flat tone:

“I know there’s no falsehood in your account. I’ve also seen what the Flea Nest in the Dark Alley looks like after it was cleared out.”

“Oh, is that so?”

Hearing the girl mention the Flea Nest, the Information Broker said:

“It seems Miss Bartholomew went back to the Flea Nest shortly after leaving, but it has already returned to its original state now.”

“Returned to its original state? When I saw it last time, everyone was…”

Beili’s voice cut off, her words trailing away.

“The original group of people obviously can’t come back from the dead.”

The Information Broker clearly knew what she had left unsaid and shrugged. “What I mean is, the Royal Family has already replaced them with a new batch of people. After all, that’s the largest Flea Nest in the Imperial City, and the Imperial City just happens to have no shortage of people looking for pleasure.”

“Was the original Flea Nest filled with your people?”

Beili asked in a tactful tone.

“Me?”

“It seems the Royal Family’s thoughts align with yours, Miss Bartholomew, thinking that I had people in the Flea Nest.”

The Information Broker smiled at her, speaking in a sarcastic tone, “But I’m just one person. Even with a few more, we wouldn’t have enough to share a single Magic Crystal.”

Beili pursed her lips and asked, “Then how should I address you the next time we meet?”

“…What?”

A flash of surprise crossed the Information Broker’s eyes.

“To be able to find me so accurately without even knowing my name, Miss Bartholomew’s luck is truly good.”

The Information Broker laughed in surprise, thinking for a few seconds before saying:

“Most people in the Imperial City call me Mr. Vulture.”

“…”

…Mister?

Her red eyes blinked quietly as Beili swallowed the realization that the Information Broker might be a man.

It wasn’t Beili’s fault for mistaking the gender.

After all, this person was currently wearing a pure white headdress, a black-and-white maid uniform of the Constance Family, and a lace apron tied around the waist.

It was only because he had eyes with soft contours and a voice that was light and gentle when he spoke.

That led Beili to overlook the person’s flat chest and slightly broad shoulders and back.

“Alright, the news has been delivered, the idle chatter is over, and the Magic Crystal is in hand. I think I shouldn’t disturb you any longer, Miss Bartholomew.”

Mr. Vulture spoke tentatively with a natural expression.

After seeing that the girl said nothing more and only nodded with a faint expression, he secretly let out a huge sigh of relief in his heart.

Mr. Vulture didn’t waste any more words. He turned and walked toward the door, reaching out to open it.

Then he suddenly froze.

Because in the corridor outside the room-

Several members of the Royal Knights stood at the doorway, clad in armor and holding longswords, blocking the exit completely.

His entire body became as tense as a stone, and his heart sank instantly like it was filled with cold lead.

Mr. Vulture instinctively felt that the girl in the room had betrayed him.

He gritted his teeth, intending to shove them aside and flee quickly while the knights weren’t paying attention.

However, the eyes of the Royal Knights blocking the door bypassed him.

They looked toward the girl inside the room.

“Miss Bartholomew, please come with us to the palace.”

One of the knights said.
