Chapter 154

The night gradually receded.

As dawn broke, the black curtain of the sky was slowly drawn back, revealing a soft touch of white.

A black horse appeared in the Teleportation Array of Rose Town.

It was clad in black iron barding shaped like fish scales, which let out the clatter of clashing metal as it walked.

Two people sat upon the horse.

A young girl with gray hair, red eyes, and a black dress sat in front.

Behind her sat a youth wearing a Silver Mask, his body wrapped tightly in a Black Robe that left not a single inch of skin exposed.

After leaving Blood Curse Town, Beili and Ashera had passed through two Teleportation Arrays. They arrived at Rose Town, a place Lady Constance had praised most enthusiastically, just as morning began.

Beili had originally intended to come here alone.

After all, part of the reason she had left the Imperial City was to find a way to replenish her nearly depleted Mana Pool, and the other part was to avoid Ashera.

The further away, the better.

But now, wherever she went, the youth in the Silver Mask followed.

She couldn’t drive him away no matter what she tried.

If she said even one harsh word to him, those hollow golden eyes-the only part of him visible through the cold lines of the Silver Mask-would immediately brim with cold, wet mist.

And so, Beili had no choice but to appear in Rose Town with the youth in tow.

The streets were quiet.

When the two of them appeared, the people of the town had not yet woken up.

Beili looked at the flower beds lining both sides of the street, planted with roses of every color.

She breathed in the rich fragrance of roses that permeated the air.

She recalled what Lady Constance had described to her-

Every year, Rose Town spent a fortune to hire Mages to infuse a massive amount of Mana into the town’s Magic Formation.

Because the blooming season for roses was typically between late spring and early summer-from April to June-the Magic Formation was used to control the climate of Rose Town, keeping it in a perpetual state that allowed the roses to bloom in abundance.

Beili shared this information with the youth behind her.

The Silver Mask tilted upward as if he were sniffing the scent of the roses.

“W-Why?” the youth suddenly asked.

“Why what?” Beili replied.

“Why make… the roses… bloom all the time?” the youth asked, puzzled.

“Uh…”

Beili thought seriously for a few seconds before answering uncertainly, “Perhaps it’s to attract people here. After all, this has become a popular, must-visit town for couples traveling together.”

“…So that’s how it is,” the youth said softly from beneath the Silver Mask.

He fell silent for a moment, and then, as if thinking of something, he suddenly let out a short, muffled chuckle.

“What are you laughing at?” Beili asked him.

“Nothing…”

The youth instinctively denied it, but after a few seconds, he explained himself: “Because… we came here too.”

What…

A popular, must-visit town for couples… and they had come here too… Was that what he meant?

Beili immediately remembered the memories he had erased back in the palace.

The slight curve of her lips flattened instantly. She let out a cold snort and brought up the old grievance crossly:

“It’s different for us. I planned to come here by myself; you’re the one who insisted on following me.”
The youth froze for a moment before speaking up immediately, his tone tinged with anxiety.

“You don’t… don’t want to come here with… with me? Then who… who do you want to come with?”

“I’ll come with whoever I want. Regardless, I don’t want to be here with you,” she snapped.

The Silver Mask, with its cold and rigid lines, tilted slightly as the youth fell into silence.

After a moment, he said slowly, “You wanted to come… with Cyril Elvis… instead.”

“So what if I did?” she blurted out.

The moment the words left her mouth, Beili felt the youth behind her stiffen.

A cold, chilling aura began to emanate from the two arms wrapped around her waist to hold the reins.

Just then, they seemed to step onto the main street of Rose Town.

Flower arches made of rose vines appeared one after another along the street. The ground was carpeted with fallen petals-streaks of red alternating with pink, various colors layered one upon another. When the horse’s hooves stepped on them, the sound became muffled.

The air grew awkward, stifled by the youth’s silence and the stillness of the street.

Beili kept her eyes busy, looking up at the flower arches, then at the houses with walls covered in climbing roses, and finally at the dark-furred horse. She was pointedly avoiding any conversation with him.

Not long after entering the main road lined with flower arches, Beili spotted the inn Lady Constance had mentioned near a Fountain Square.

The sign was glittering gold with a gilded rose relief border, featuring five large characters: “Golden Rose Inn.”

Her red eyes flashed as Beili immediately underwent a Beast Transformation into a butterfly. Leaving the horse, she flew through the open doors of the inn in an instant.

Inside the inn, the employee on duty looked up to find a cool, elegant girl with grey hair and red eyes suddenly standing there. Before the clerk could speak, the girl said, “I’d like to book a room.”

The clerk nodded in agreement, but then her gaze drifted past the girl to a Black-robed Youth wearing a mask who had suddenly appeared at the entrance.

She greeted him warmly and politely. “Sir, please come in. You must be exhausted from your travels; we can provide a room for you to rest.”

As the clerk finished speaking, Beili turned her gaze back and corrected herself, “Make that two rooms.”

The clerk was about to agree when she heard a boy’s voice come from behind the Silver Mask.

“One room…”

The clerk looked uncertain and asked, “So, the young lady is booking two rooms, and this gentleman is booking one?”

“No.” Beili pointed to herself and then at the youth behind her. “It’s just him and me, and we’re staying in separate rooms.”

In the end, Beili successfully had the clerk book two rooms.

However, after she drew the curtains and turned around, she found an extra person in her room.

“…”

“I need to catch up on sleep, Ashera. I need sufficient rest,” she said helplessly. “We can talk about anything else after I wake up.”

She pressed her palms against the youth’s chest and pushed him out the door step by step, then shut it firmly.

There was a moment of silence behind the door.

Then, a muffled chuckle drifted through.

“But… but you don’t… don’t like… Cyril Elvis…” the youth said through the door.
