Survival Guide After Accidentally Kissing a Demon - Chapter 175
Chapter 175
Before the boy could say a word, the young girl was already clutching the Black Lamb and heading straight for the Rest Area without the slightest hesitation.
Perhaps because she had mentioned it to Lady Constance earlier, the Rest Area had been decorated to feel exceptionally cozy and tranquil.
Two low beds were covered with soft cushions.
Lustrous white jade filled every corner, shimmering with a gentle glow.
Scented candles were arranged at neat intervals, filling the air with a faint, delicate fragrance.
Through the window, a shimmering river could be seen outside. The natural sound of flowing water made it easy for one to quickly find peace of mind.
Beili walked over and placed the Black Lamb in her arms onto one of the low beds.
The Black Lamb lay down wearily, its golden eyes half-closed. Over the past half-day, it had barely opened its eyes to look at anyone, nor had it made a single sound.
After setting down the lamb, Beili turned around and offered a cheerful invitation.
“Your Highness, you must be tired after walking for so long, right? Come here, there are low beds to rest on.”
For the first time, those red eyes revealed a hint of warmth toward him.
Cyril’s shoulders stiffened for a moment. He gave a quiet “mm” in response and stepped forward toward the bed opposite the girl.
Beili watched him, wondering how she could invite him to take a nap here without it seeming too abrupt.
Thinking of the magical items she had bought, she was just about to rummage through her things when she suddenly heard Cyril speak.
“I have something for you. Consider it a gift.” He then held out a blue-and-white checkered box decorated with a pearlescent ribbon.
Beili was startled for a moment. After reaching out to take the gift box, she immediately took the unwrapped Music Box out of her Spatial Bracelet and handed it to Cyril.
“What is this?”
“A return gift.”
Cyril blinked his violet eyes slightly, his voice sounding a bit cold. “Why is the packaging so crude?”
Beili’s movements as she unwrapped her gift paused. She glanced up at Cyril before realizing he thought the wooden box itself was the packaging.
In reality, once he opened the wooden box, he would find that the gift inside had no wrapping at all.
“Packaging is just meant to be torn off; it’s meaningless.”
She peeked at him and added calmly, “The most important thing is the gift itself.”
She emphasized the last four words, then pulled a Golden Whistle out of the blue-and-white checkered gift box.
It was a Golden Whistle strung on a fine gold chain.
“What is this whistle for?”
Beili picked up the whistle, examining it with curiosity.
Cyril’s gaze shifted from the Music Box to her hand. After a moment, he explained in a cold voice:
“It has two uses.”
“If you fall into water, you can breathe in oxygen through the whistle. If you encounter danger, blowing the whistle will trigger a Teleportation Array, allowing you to leave through it.”
“Leave to where?”
“It’s random.”
That was actually quite practical.
Cyril raised his hand and subconsciously touched his collar. Beneath his shirt was an identical Golden Whistle necklace.
His didn’t contain as much magic; it only served to open a corresponding Teleportation Array next to him to receive her whenever she activated hers.
After a brief pause, Cyril looked away and added in a stiff tone:
“If I am nearby, you will be teleported to me first.”
…That wasn’t exactly ideal.
“Thank you for the gift, Your Highness. I like it very much.”
She offered a polite pleasantry and tucked the Golden Whistle into her Spatial Bracelet. Looking down, she saw the Black Lamb curled up beside her had raised its fuzzy black head at some point.
Its hollow golden eyes were ‘staring’ at her without blinking.
Beili gave its head a soothing rub.
The fellow immediately twisted its head to the side.
Beili had no choice but to pinch its fuzzy black ears.
Then, the creature lowered its head and curled its body into a black Donut, refusing to let her touch even its ears.
Uh…
While the ‘Donut’ was throwing a tantrum at Beili, Cyril stared at the Music Box in his hand and suddenly spoke a few cold words.
“There is magic infused in this.”
“Of course-”
Beili looked up, her red eyes flickering slightly. Following his lead, she maintained a calm tone.
“Of course there’s magic. Without magic, it would just be an ordinary music box-how boring. As for what kind of magic it is, perhaps Your Highness would like to guess?”
“Hypnosis magic.”
Cyril identified it almost instantly. Then, his voice devoid of emotion, he asked, “Why give this to me?”
“It’s quite obvious; it helps with sleep,” Beili explained, a faint smile playing on her lips as she spoke in a gentle tone.
“I know that. So, why give it to me?”
“Because Your Highness doesn’t sleep well.”
She remembered the original story describing how Cyril was prone to insomnia. When it hit, he would stay awake all night, left with nothing to do but read or practice archery.
“How did you know?” Cyril asked, a hint of surprise in his voice.
“Back in the Maze,” Beili came up with a random excuse. “I observed it then.”
“…”
Cyril’s lips quirked slightly as he lowered his purple eyes. He let out a cold snort, but his expression immediately softened.
He seemed… somewhat happy.
Beili didn’t know what exactly Cyril was happy about, but the ‘Donut’ curled up beside her was very unhappy.
It had originally moved to an empty spot nearby on purpose, refusing to let the girl touch it. However, sensing someone’s emotions, it stood up and crawled back into her arms, signaling for her to hold it.
Beili took the opportunity to pull the Black Lamb into her embrace and lay down on her side on the cushioned low bed.
“Your Highness, why don’t you try the music box’s hypnotic effect?”
She kept her red eyes open and said softly, “The stables are so large; it’ll be a long time before the others return.”
Her intentions were practically written on her face. If she tried to guide a certain sheep to sleep in the same way, it definitely wouldn’t work.
Just as Beili was silently mocking herself in her mind, a crisp, melodious tinkling sound reached her ears.
Cyril had already opened the music box.
He lay flat on the low bed, resting his head on one arm.
“Bartholomew.”
He suddenly spoke, bringing up another matter in a casual tone. “Make a deal with me.”
“What?”
Caught off guard, a trace of confusion flickered in her red eyes.
Staring at the clean ceiling with his purple eyes, Cyril’s lips formed a straight line. He said emotionlessly, “After the Academy starts, help me open the Third Floor of the library tower. As for the conditions, you name them.”
…
“Holy Island Academy is starting soon?”
Holding the lamb in her arms, that was the first point Beili caught.
After all, the matter of Susanna’s enrollment slot didn’t seem to have been settled yet.
She thought back on the situation.
Actually, rather than going to Holy Island Academy to study magic, Beili was even considering voluntarily giving up the Constance Family’s enrollment slot.
On one hand, the magic she used was different from what was taught at Holy Island Academy. Studying there would no longer be of any help to her. On the other hand, students were only allowed to leave the island once a month, and there were curfew regulations, which would instead restrict her freedom.
She still had to find the three promised items for Ashera.
Moreover, she wouldn’t be safe at Holy Island Academy at all.
Looking at it this way, giving the Constance Family’s sole slot for Holy Island Academy to Susanna seemed like a good choice.
“I’m afraid there won’t be a chance…” Beili sighed.
After all, she had no intention of opening the Third Floor of the library tower again.
“You plan on giving up your slot?”
On the other side, as if guessing her thoughts about abandoning her place at the Academy, a flash of surprise crossed Cyril’s purple eyes. He continued:
“No need to worry about that.”
His voice was as cold as an icicle as he explained without emotion, “The enrollment rules for Holy Island Academy have changed. There are no longer limits on slots; any Noble can attend. However…”
He paused for a moment, his lips curling slightly.
“Servants are no longer allowed.”
“Is that so… I’ll think about it…”
The girl’s voice suddenly became blurred as it reached the boy’s ears.
The music box’s hypnosis magic had taken effect.
