Chapter 208

Beili didn’t know what kind of magic Ashera was casting.

She suddenly felt the air grow hot. She tried to prop herself up to create some distance between them, but his arm was pressed against her back, tightening around her like chains.

In this state, she didn’t know how to answer. Should she tell the truth or a lie?

If she told the truth, he might get angry; if she lied, he wasn’t that easy to fool.

But for the time being, she didn’t want to see Ashera driven mad with rage again.

“Yes.”

Beili took a soft breath.

“Of course I felt… jealousy.”

Jealousy… was it?

Maybe a little. It was less like jealousy and more like being bothered. It had been most obvious during Hunting Day.

“Is that so?”

Hearing her answer, the corners of Ashera’s lips curled into a smile. He asked slowly, “Then when you’re jealous, what do you think about?”

His voice was still laced with a seductive charm, and the hand resting on her back gradually tightened.

“…”

He must have cast some kind of spell.

Beili felt her own breath growing hotter. She didn’t want to continue the conversation, but Ashera’s words always made her feel like she ought to say something in this moment.

She couldn’t help but recall Hunting Day… and Susanna.

Yes, Susanna-the only person she had ever cared about from the beginning until now.

Because in the Original Book, Susanna was the person Ashera had once liked.

Thinking this, she actually spoke the words out loud.

“I thought you would like someone else, and then…”

And then she would be abandoned.

She forcibly cut off the second half of the sentence behind her teeth.

Abandoned.

Oh… just like what she had planned to do last night.

Beili realized something, and a sudden pang of distress hit her. Was it the magic Ashera cast that made her feel this way? She wasn’t sure. But it made her unable to stop herself from speaking the words she had kept bottled up inside.

“Can you… not take my heart?”

She didn’t want to pretend anymore.

As her voice trailed off, her chest rose and fell slightly.

…

The wheels rolled over the road, creating a faint vibration. The atmosphere inside the carriage instantly froze into a stagnant chill.

“Why not?”

Ashera’s hand covered her heart, as if feeling its beat. His cold palm pressed gently against that cloud-like softness, his low, mellow voice devoid of any stray thoughts.

“Little Butterfly, the heart is the most important thing to me. Do you understand?”

The curve of Ashera’s lips deepened as he said unhurriedly, “Besides, it was mine to begin with.”

“…”

In the darkness, Beili’s eyes grew dim. She felt like a butterfly trapped in a spiderweb; the harder she struggled, the more she sank into a desperate plight.

Feeling somewhat disheartened, she lapsed into a long silence.

“Why have you stopped talking? Are you thinking of how to persuade me?”

Ashera’s voice was very light. The hand that had been over her heart moved to pat her back gently, as if offering comfort.

“Although I like the way you look when you’re thinking quietly…”

Ashera chuckled softly, his chest vibrating with the movement.

A moment later, the smile on his face faded, and he let out a sigh.

“But if you’re thinking of a way to leave, I won’t let you off as easily as I did last time.”

“We… signed a Life-and-Death Contract.”

Beili suddenly remembered this fact. It meant that Ashera could not kill her, nor could he even harbor the thought of killing her, unless she gave up her heart voluntarily.

“Yes, we signed a Life-and-Death Contract.”
Ashera’s lips curled into a faint smile as his fingers gently stroked her cheek. He spoke slowly, “But do you really think a Life-and-Death Contract can bind me?”

“There are actually many ways to take back my heart.”

He continued to pat her back gently. “However, I don’t want to do that just yet. I much prefer watching you struggle by my side.”

She didn’t believe him.

Beili remained quiet for a few seconds.

“Then take your heart and go. I don’t want to see you anymore.”

She whispered, closing her eyes.

There was no way out anyway.

The darkness inside the carriage seemed to grow thicker, and Ashera’s laughter abruptly vanished.

“Do you think you have the right to choose when I take it?”

He grabbed her wrist, his voice laced with clear anger.

“Since you won’t take it, then I won’t say another word.”

Beili didn’t resist at all, waiting quietly.

“Are you threatening me?”

In the darkness, Ashera’s expression instantly darkened, a flash of irritation crossing his golden eyes.

“You think this will make me compromise?”

Silence was his only response.

Ashera’s lips twisted into a cold sneer as he pushed her aside.

Then he closed his eyes, refusing to look at her further.

The carriage fell into a deathly silence.

‘So, the heart can’t just be taken whenever he wants,’ Beili guessed.

…

She didn’t know where the carriage was headed, nor did she know what Ashera intended to do.

She waited quietly as time ticked away, minute by minute.

…

After a long time, the carriage slowly came to a halt.

Ashera opened his eyes. Reaching out in the darkness, he picked the girl up and stepped out of the carriage.

A burst of blinding light instantly flooded her vision.

She squinted, burying her face in Ashera’s chest for a moment before turning her head back.

The distant scenery was becoming blurred, and the air was thick with moisture.

The sky looked as if it were covered by a massive gray curtain.

Low-hanging dark clouds, heavy as lead, pressed down continuously. It felt as though they could pour down at any moment, drowning the entire Town in a vast expanse of rain.

Looking at the unfamiliar surroundings, Beili realized the architectural style was completely different from that of the Santos Kingdom. She realized she might not even be in the Santos Kingdom anymore.

Not in Sainthos.

She felt a bit dazed.

Having been unconscious for some time, she had no idea how many days had passed since Cyril’s Coming-of-Age Ceremony.

If Lady Constance discovered she was missing… that would be truly terrible.

She had to send a communication to Lady Constance.

Beili instinctively reached for the Spatial Bracelet on her wrist, only to discover something even more serious-the Spatial Bracelet was gone.

She snapped her head up to look at Ashera.

“Where is my bracelet?”

“I remember what you just said.”

Ashera lowered his golden eyes, his gaze slightly cold.

“If you want to go back, why don’t you… beg me?”

‘Please give it back to me.’ Beili swallowed those words. She knew Ashera wouldn’t listen to her.

Besides, she had just provoked him.

Beili took a light breath, trying to soften her tone as much as possible.

“Let me send a communication to Lady Constance.”

Pausing, she tried a different approach.

“Or tell me what you want me to do. I can agree to it, as long as you return the bracelet to me.”

“I won’t believe you anymore.”

Ashera raised his hand, his cold palm gently patting the top of her head. His voice was soft.

“Now, things will only be done my way.”
