Chapter 228

While Beili was using her butterfly to whisper secrets with Prince Doron of the Nauze Kingdom, she also kept a close eye on the Silver-haired Youth in Black Attire sitting in the seat beside her.

The youth’s gaze was mostly fixed on the mages in the dueling competition.

If Beili wasn’t mistaken, that look in his eyes was like that of a picky gourmet selecting ingredients for tonight’s dinner.

After the dueling competition ended, the King of Nauze hosted a banquet in the palace.

Banquets had also been held after the previous horse racing and rowing competitions, but the two of them hadn’t attended those.

This time, however, the youth participated.

He didn’t return until late into the night.

The bed dipped as a frigid person lay down under the covers. Then, kisses fell upon her forehead, her cheeks, and the corners of her lips.

Beili frowned slightly, realizing in her daze that Ashera had returned. She rolled over to one side, giving him the cold shoulder.

Ashera hugged her from behind, gently pulling her into his embrace.

Beili was starting to get used to being held in this cold embrace in the middle of her sleep, so she didn’t wake up immediately.

She was half-asleep and half-awake, just about to drift back to sleep, when she suddenly heard the person behind her give a low chuckle. In a deep, heavy voice, he slowly whispered, “My dear Little Butterfly, we can take back the second item tomorrow. Are you looking forward to it?”

A cold breath brushed against her ear.

Beili kept her eyes closed, repeatedly hypnotizing herself into believing she hadn’t heard those words as she forced herself to sleep.

…

The next day.

When Beili woke up again, she looked down and saw that the person resting his head on her shoulder had short silver hair.

It was still Ashera in his Youth Form.

A moment after Beili woke, the youth also opened his eyes.

“You… you’re awake…”

Beili gave a soft hum of affirmation, her mind already racing for a way to get out. Moreover, she couldn’t let Ashera follow her.

Beili reached out and tidied the short silver hair hanging by the youth’s cheekbones. “What do you plan to do today?” she asked.

The youth lowered his lashes to look at her, the corners of his lips curling up slightly. “No… nothing in particular.”

Doing nothing meant he was going to cling to her.

Beili sighed inwardly. She pulled the youth up to wash and change clothes while simultaneously trying to think of a reasonable excuse.

Just then, palace attendants brought breakfast and delivered a message saying that the King of Nauze had invited Ashera for a private meeting.

A private invitation.

The messenger emphasized those words very clearly.

Fine, she didn’t even need to find an excuse now.

After watching the youth leave, she followed right after him out the door and found Prince Doron, who had been waiting for a long time.

The two of them left the palace together.

…

Inside the carriage.

“Miss Bartholomew, the top three mages from yesterday’s dueling competition disappeared in the palace right after the celebratory banquet ended.”

Prince Doron brought this up as a topic of conversation.

Beili didn’t even have to think to know who the culprit was.

She gave a vague hum in response, not wanting to get too involved in the topic.

The carriage traveled for a while before slowly coming to a stop.

Beili looked out the carriage window and froze for a moment.

Outside was a magnificently decorated restaurant.

“Your Highness-”

She quickly turned back to look at Prince Doron, her gaze somewhat cold as she reminded him, “During the mage duels, my butterfly made my intentions very clear. I am the one who decides the location of our meeting.”

“Did Your Highness forget, or was it intentional?”

“Miss Bartholomew…”

Your Highness Dolun gave a slightly stiff smile and said, “I simply heard that you hadn’t had breakfast yet and was worried you might be hungry.”

“…”

After two seconds of silence, Beili lowered her red eyes. Her voice softened slightly as she said, “My apologies, Your Highness. I am not in the mood for breakfast right now. Please take me directly to the Church.”
Prince Doron hesitated for a moment before nodding.

“Fine. We’ll head to the Church now.”

The carriage lurched back into motion.

Beili sat inside, reflecting on what Ashera had said the previous night. If he hadn’t been trying to scare her on purpose, then Ashera would definitely make his move today.

This was why Beili had no intention of returning to the palace once she left. All her belongings were stored within her Spatial Bracelet; she didn’t need to pack a thing.

She’d had countless opportunities to leave during this time, but she had stayed, hoping to find a way to unlock the magical item on her wrist. She had been waiting for the right moment, but instead of diminishing, Ashera’s Mana was increasing at an alarming rate.

The thought that Ashera might reclaim his Torso today-and that his next target would undoubtedly be her heart-made Beili feel a sudden wave of dizziness.

Wait…

Her consciousness really was starting to blur.

A sense of chaos enveloped her like a thick fog, making everything feel sluggish. Her eyes closed against her will.

When she opened them again, she was jolted awake by Prince Doron’s blood-curdling scream.

What happened?

Beili’s first instinct was that Ashera had arrived. Even as she marveled at how quickly he had caught up, she forced her heavy eyelids open to look around.

Only she and Prince Doron were in the carriage.

Oh, and her Morpho Butterflies, of course.

The Morpho Butterflies, which usually perched on her hair disguised as ornaments, were currently attacking Prince Doron with a frenzy.

“What’s going on?” Beili murmured blankly, her breath hitching.

One of the Morpho Butterflies flew toward her, landing gently on her forehead for a brief second.

The hazy confusion vanished instantly, and her thoughts cleared. The butterfly then fluttered to her ear, quickly recounting what had just transpired.

Once she realized Prince Doron had tried to lift her skirt while she was unconscious, Beili’s temper flared.

A command was issued.

Prince Doron’s hands, face, and every inch of skin exposed outside his clothes began to corrode. The agonizing, bone-deep pain made him scream and thrash, but he didn’t dare move too much. Touching the Morpho Butterflies in the cramped carriage would only intensify his suffering.

“You had better be able to get me into the Forbidden Fruit Lord’s Inner Hall, Your Highness Doron, otherwise-”

Ignoring his screams, the girl’s eyes filled with a chilling frost as she issued a cold warning: “You will die here today.”

“Miss Bartholomew, I… I shouldn’t have kept it from you…” Prince Doron’s face was deathly pale as he explained with a trembling voice. “In the Royal Family, aside from my father, the only ones allowed to see the Forbidden Fruit Lord are those ranked first on the mission board. The other princes and princesses can’t enter the Inner Hall at all.”

The worst-case scenario had arrived.

Was she going to have to break into the Inner Hall herself? Or should she just give up on the Black Bone Scythe and flee now?

“Is that so?”

Upon hearing his words, a hint of pity flickered in her cold red eyes as she looked at him. “That really is a shame.”

Her gaze was like that of someone looking at a corpse.

“Your Highness Doron, it seems you’ve driven this carriage to a very quiet place. You’ve been screaming so miserably for so long, yet not a single person has come to check on us.”

She spoke slowly, raising her hand. In the blink of an eye, a massive swarm of Morpho Butterflies appeared, instantly filling the entire carriage.

“In that case, I suppose no one will notice when my butterflies corrode you until nothing is left but a puddle of blood.”

She spoke softly, her crimson pupils burning with suppressed rage. “I know the process will be excruciatingly painful, but there’s no helping it. Who told you to fail our deal?”

The swarm of Morpho Butterflies began to wrap around him like pieces of a macabre puzzle.
