Chapter 232

Beili met those smiling, molten-gold eyes.

A second ago, she had been plotting an escape route, but now she felt as if his gaze carried a physical heat, scorching her so much that she instinctively looked away.

Then, her gaze fell upon Mr. Vulture, who was standing not far away with a face full of stubble.

Drip-

Drip-

Liquid fell to the ground, making a faint splashing sound.

In Mr. Vulture’s hand, he seemed to be holding two heads that were still dripping blood.

Blood trickled down from the severed necks, pooling into a small, shocking patch of crimson on the ground.

Her eyelashes fluttered for a moment before Beili quickly averted her eyes to the other side, pretending to be nonchalant as she took the initiative to speak.

“Why are you out… It’s daytime.”

“Naturally, it’s because the Old Wild Boar is smarter than the Old Leopard-”

A faint, mocking smile played on his lips as he leaned in. His thin lips parted slightly, and his cold breath brushed against her ear along with his words.

“He prepared a grand feast for me. How could I not come out?”

Recalling what Princess Teresa had said, Beili couldn’t help but connect the “grand feast” the man mentioned with the Mages the King of Nauze had summoned to the palace.

“This King treats you better than his own sons and daughters,” she sighed softly.

“Ordinary people pursue bloodlines, those with bloodlines pursue power, but what do those with power pursue? It’s because he believes that only I can fulfill his wish.”

Ashera curled his lips lazily and whispered in her ear, “Besides, that’s not called being good to me. It’s called offering sacrifices.”

Beili paused, feeling that she had strayed from the main topic, so she continued to ask, “Then will you really help the King of Nauze fulfill his wish for immortality?”

Ashera didn’t answer directly. He straightened up and said in a lazy tone, “If that person can find a suitable body for the exchange-”

Beili asked, “Does a suitable body mean a blood relative?”

Ashera nodded slowly.

“Then for the King of Nauze, that shouldn’t be a difficult thing to achieve.” After all, he had so many children.

Hearing her words, Ashera let out a light chuckle.

“My dear Little Butterfly, things are not as simple as you think.”

A faint light flickered in his golden eyes, his gaze full of hidden meaning.

“The Old Wild Boar… he may seem to have many children, but he can’t find a single blood relative among them.”

As if recalling something, Ashera laughed softly.

“You should have seen the Old Wild Boar’s expression today. It was quite amusing. It’s a pity you ran away in secret.”

In the next second, the smile on his statue-like face vanished.

“By the way-I forgot to ask just now, my dear Little Butterfly.”

His handsome brows knit slightly toward the center as he asked in a slow tone, “Why did you run all the way here from the palace without saying a word?”

“To find the Black Bone Scythe. It’s been missing for six whole days.”

Beili’s tone was calm, and her expression was natural as she looked at the silver-haired, gold-eyed man in front of her.

“Since you’re already here, if you can sense it, help me summon it back.”

Ashera hummed thoughtfully, his furrowed brows smoothing out as his thin, cold lips curled back into a beautiful arc.

“No rush.”

Ashera tapped the tip of her nose again and chuckled. “Once I deal with that tree, I’ll help you get the scythe out.”

He knew that the Forbidden Fruit Lord in the Inner Hall was a tree.
“So, you know where the Black Bone Scythe is hidden?”

Upon hearing Ashera’s words, Beili grabbed his hand and pressed for an answer.

A temperature as cold as a sculpture’s transferred from his fingertips. She saw Ashera’s eyelashes curve slightly upward.

“Of course.”

Ashera curled his lips and took the girl’s hand, pulling her into his embrace.

“That scythe is just like you-greedy for Mana. It was eaten without even knowing it.”

Ashera spoke with a low chuckle, naturally picking her up in his arms.

He turned and walked toward the Inner Hall.

At the same time, he threw a command to the Vulture in the Church:

“Stay here. Do not let anyone disturb us.”

“Yes.”

Behind them, the Vulture’s expression remained hollow as he bowed slightly.

Then, he stood in place like a stone pillar.

…

Held in that icy embrace, Beili returned to the space within the Inner Hall once more.

The rustling sound of flowing grass filled her ears.

Shifting suddenly from the dimly lit interior to a space of blue skies, meadows, and bright sunshine, the intense change in light caused Beili to instinctively turn her head and squint.

Once her eyes adjusted, she looked up, her deep red gaze meeting the silver-haired, golden-eyed man before her.

“We’ve both seen it.”

She pointed toward the swirling pool of water in the center.

“So, back during the closing Hunt Banquet, did you already know the second item was inside this tree?”

Ashera lowered his lashes, his lips curved in a faint, enigmatic smile as he looked at her.

“I did,” he said.

“You knew the item was inside the tree back then, but you had no way to take it back.”

Looking at the man’s perfectly sculpted face, Beili continued, “Because you could bewitch Princess Renee into gouging out her eyes, but you couldn’t bewitch a tree into returning your body to you.”

“Indeed-”

Ashera laughed softly, sighing in a nonchalant tone, “A tree… how could I bewitch it? It doesn’t even have a soul.”

Beili went on, “You wanted to take your things back, but the only way was to kill this tree. However, this tree had absorbed too much sin; given your condition at the time, you couldn’t kill it at all.”

That was why Ashera had listed his heart as the first item to retrieve.

Because Princess Renee, who possessed the Demon’s eyes, was far away in the Tilisha Kingdom.

Whereas she, who possessed the Demon’s heart, appeared before him almost every day.

“Yes, you are quite right. Since you’ve guessed correctly, I shall reward you…”

Ashera’s lips curled, his eyes full of smiles. As he spoke, he lowered his head to kiss her. His eyes curved into two crescents, their golden light like moonlight falling directly into her gaze.

His cold lips pressed and lingered against hers, his arms gradually tightening around her.

He had long since grown accustomed to one-sided kisses.

Until-

After a moment of silence from the person in his arms.

She suddenly reached out, her arms climbing the back of his neck like vines.

She leaned in, pressing against him like a warm cloud, tilting her head back to fervently return his kiss.

On his end, it was the first time Ashera had seen her take such initiative. His eyelashes trembled slightly, and he froze as if stunned, his toes hovering suspended in the air.

The one who was originally in control of everything was now, for a moment, lost in the sensation.

Then, the girl released him.

Her jewel-like, deep red eyes shimmered with a luxurious radiance under the sunlight.

“Ashera… take out the Black Bone Scythe for me first, okay?”
