Chapter 252

A flicker of surprise crossed Ashera’s golden eyes.

There was a hint of confusion in his brow, but the corners of his cool, thin lips could not stop a smile from spreading.

His lips parted slightly.

His voice sounded as if it had been scraped over gravel, still carrying the laziness of early morning.

“Good morning, Little Butterfly.”

He said,

“Am I dreaming?”

As he asked, his pale fingers brushed the corner of his mouth, where she had just left a kiss.

“I suppose I am.”

He came to his own conclusion.

“Although you can disguise yourself as Mrs. Constance, your personality is completely different from hers.”

As Beili spoke, she tugged at the corner of her mouth, giving him a look that said she had seen right through him, and continued,

“Mrs. Constance doesn’t have a temper anywhere near as rotten as yours.”

Ashera’s lips curved. His lashes bent softly, and there was laughter in his voice as he said,

“So you figured it out. Of course. That little head of yours has always worked fast.”

As if accepting her explanation, Ashera showed no curiosity about suddenly losing his disguise. He did not even ask a single question.

But that was just how Ashera was-

Rather than hear the answer from her mouth, he preferred to slowly reason his way forward from the smallest details, until he finally reached his own conclusion.

So Beili was in no hurry to explain.

“Since you figured it out-”

Ashera gave a low laugh. His Adam’s apple bobbed twice, and then he asked, “Why didn’t you leave?”

His pale fingers stroked downward again.

“Don’t you love running away?”

His fingertips hooked a lock of silver-gray curls and wound it around his index finger, loop after loop.

Beili rolled her eyes at him inwardly, looking at him with an expression that clearly said, Do I look like I can get away?

“Where is Mrs. Constance?”

She asked him.

That was what mattered most.

From the moment she saw that black door and realized the person sleeping beside her was Ashera, she had been worried about that question.

Perhaps because he had been afraid of exposing himself, he had only appeared at night to replace Mrs. Constance at first. But toward the end, he had appeared even during the day.

“What do you think?”

The corners of his cool, thin lips lifted.

“You even went back to take her with you when you ran away. It seems you like that woman very much.”

His long lashes lowered slightly. Ashera said thoughtfully,

“So I was wondering whether I should send her to Hell first and let her wait for us there.”

Beili’s breath caught, and her heart gave a heavy thud.

Before she could speak, she heard the boy’s voice coming from inside Ashera’s body:

“Don’t scare her… What if… she gets angry…”

Beili blinked her red eyes, then asked after a moment of thought,

“Is she in the room next door, or did she go back to Sainthos?”

The man smiled without answering, but the boy inside his body said,

“Tell her… she went back…”

Beili let out a breath of relief in her heart, then said as if nothing had happened,

“You’re overthinking it. I only brought her along because I didn’t want the journey to be too monotonous.”

“Is that so?”

Ashera chuckled.

Beili made a sound of agreement and did not ask any more questions.

When dealing with Ashera, she needed far more patience than usual.

Her shoulder shifted, and she was just about to get up and look out the window to see what was happening outside when Ashera released the gray hair wound around his finger.

His arm swept around her and pulled her tight. His broad shoulders easily covered her as he pressed down over her.

“Where are you going?”

He asked, though with his body pinning her down, there was not the slightest sign that he intended to let her leave.
“There’s noise outside.”

Pinned beneath him, Beili was starting to feel a little short of oxygen. She said, “It sounds like something happened. Let’s go out and take a look.”

“Nothing important.”

Ashera held her in his arms, the corners of his lips curving lazily. “Right now, we’re staying here. We’re not going anywhere.”

Patience. Patience.

Beili repeated the words twice in her heart, then nodded and said, “Okay. I’ll listen to you. We’ll just lie here.”

Ashera’s lashes stilled for a moment. When he lifted his head, his sacred golden eyes curved into two crescents, as if molten gold were flowing through them.

“Since you saw through my disguise and still stayed here, that means you’ve already prepared yourself for me to take my heart back at any moment,” Ashera said unhurriedly.

“You’re scaring her again…”

“Yes. I’m prepared.”

Beili said, “So when are you planning to take it?”

At her question, a trace of surprise flashed deep in Ashera’s golden eyes. His beautiful brows drew together slightly, but soon relaxed again.

He avoided her question and instead brought up something else in that lazy tone of his.

“Since you agreed, why didn’t you wait for me in the Church before?”

A hint of resentment slipped into his voice, which was wrapped in a thick layer of amusement.

“Do you know what I was thinking when I came out and didn’t see you?”

Beili hesitated, unsure how to answer. Ashera seemed to have no intention of listening to her argue and continued, “At the time, I thought, just as I guessed, you really did leave.”

“That was something worth being happy about. I had been worried that if I came out and saw you still there, then what would I do… Mm!”

Beili reached up, pulled the rambling man down, and kissed him on the lips.

The rest of his unfinished words dissolved between their tangled breaths.

After their lips parted, Ashera’s Adam’s apple bobbed.

Then he let out a low laugh.

“Now you’ve become obedient, my dear Little Butterfly. This way, we’ll save ourselves a lot of trouble.”

He sighed in satisfaction, stroked her temple, and pressed a kiss to her forehead.

Then he added lightly, “I forgot to say just now. That woman has already gone back.”

After saying that, still not quite satisfied, he kissed the corner of her eye, then the bridge of her nose, her chin…

He kissed her entire face, then took her hand and lightly kissed her fingers.

Her deep red eyes blinked softly.

She had to make Ashera believe this was reality.

As long as she was here.

“This is a dream… isn’t it…”

The young man’s voice came from within the man’s body.

“If only I wouldn’t wake up…”

She gently rested her face against Ashera’s warm chest, and the two of them embraced in silence.

There was nothing she could do. Ashera had no intention of leaving the bed at all, much less letting her leave.

In truth, he did not do much. Just like when they usually slept, he played with her hair, held her hand, and occasionally lowered his head to kiss her.

Outside the window, the noise on the street grew louder and louder.

Restless footsteps kept sounding from the stairs of the Inn.

A few indistinct words passed through the walls and drifted into the room.

Beili could vaguely hear the others discussing the river water.

“Red,” “like blood,” and “terrifying” were repeated again and again, spreading from mouth to mouth.

Then they passed through the walls, muffled and hazy, seeping inside.
