Chapter 254

“You’re still worried about that?”

Perhaps because of the embrace, the corner of his lips lifted slightly as he spoke. His tone softened, and there was a smile in his eyes.

“Still, if you say it won’t happen, then it won’t.”

His lashes lowered gently, his golden eyes falling on the top of the girl’s head, veiled by gray hair. His cool lips curved again in silence.

“Since you’re full, let’s leave this place.”

He took her hand, and the two of them walked out of the kitchen and straight through Tilisha Palace.

Along the neatly stacked stone corridor, soldiers stood on either side, while servants came and went. All of them treated the two as if they were nothing but air.

Although Ashera had done this more than once, Beili still asked, “They can’t see us, and they can’t hear us talking, right?”

“That’s right.”

Ashera gave a slight nod.

It seemed that after this guy had reclaimed his body in the Nauze Kingdom, he had absorbed quite a lot of Mana too.

Otherwise, once he noticed his Mana was gradually decreasing, he should have started using it more sparingly. Beili thought silently.

Of course, she couldn’t control Ashera’s Mana outside the dream.

But here in the dream, she could.

All she had to do was issue a command in her mind.

But every command had to be handled carefully. If there was a major loophole and Ashera noticed something was wrong, things would get bad.

…

The two of them left the palace together.

Outside, the soldiers of the Tilisha Royal Family were still going from house to house, seizing food and water.

The people who had gathered along both sides of the river had already dispersed.

A large number of dead fish still floated on the surface, and a faint fishy stench had begun to rise from the water.

There were noticeably fewer people on the streets.

As they walked, they occasionally saw people lying unconscious on the ground.

She didn’t know whether it had something to do with the red water, or with food made using that water.

Ashera, however, showed no reaction to what was happening.

Thinking of something, Beili secretly lifted her eyes to look at the silver-haired, golden-eyed man beside her.

Sensing her gaze, Ashera turned his head. Beneath his lowered lashes, his golden eyes slanted toward her.

“Why do you keep sneaking looks at me?” he asked, the faintest hint of a smile playing at his lips.

“I want to know your plan, Ashera,” she said.

“Plan?”

The corner of his thin, cold lips rose slightly, forming a beautifully curved smile. Ashera answered softly, “I don’t have a plan.”

“Just like I know you’re going to take the heart from my body…”

Beili pressed her lips together lightly, deciding to bring it up while he was in a good mood.

“I want to know when you intend to take it.”

When she took the initiative to mention it, Ashera’s golden eyes paused faintly.

After pondering for a moment, he curved his lashes and smiled at her.

“When I feel the time has come, my dear Little Butterfly.”

He raised his hand, his fingertips gently brushing her cheek, then said at an unhurried pace, “Perhaps I’ll wait until you’re at your most relaxed, then take it without any warning at all. You know, I like seeing you frightened.”

‘Don’t scare her…’

The boy’s voice carried a trace of helplessness.

Beili calmly blinked her red eyes.

“Then give me a time, Ashera.”

As she spoke, she raised her hand and wrapped her warm palm around Ashera’s hand.

“Before I become a corpse, I want to know how many days I have left. That way, I can properly plan the things I still need to do…”

“Plan? You don’t need to make any plans.”

Ashera’s lips curved as he said slowly,
“By the time you wake up, everything will already be over. We’ll meet again somewhere better.”

“Wake up…”

Beili repeated the two words, then smiled soundlessly.

“What is it?”

he asked softly.

“Nothing.”

Without thinking, she said, “I was just wondering if you used the same sort of line when you bewitched Princess Renee.”

The moment the words left her mouth, Beili felt she had said too much.

This was not the right time to expose him. What she needed to do was be like Princess Renee and willingly offer up what he wanted.

Sure enough.

At her leisurely remark, Ashera suddenly stopped. A dark, unreadable laugh slipped from his thin, cold lips.

Beili was holding his hand, so she stopped as well. Then she heard him say, “Yes, exactly. And-”

Ashera smiled, his voice very soft. “My dear Little Butterfly, it wouldn’t take a few days. In truth, it would only take a few seconds, if I wanted.”

Beili’s brows drew together slightly, and she instinctively retorted, “But didn’t you just give me enough food for several days…”

The next second, Ashera’s fingertips were already pressed against her chest, stopping over the soft place where her heart lay.

“Don’t scare her…”

The young man’s voice came from within Ashera’s body, uneasy.

Beili’s shoulders went still. She did not step back, nor did she continue arguing.

As if she had simply accepted what he said, she lifted her red eyes and looked at him quietly.

“What?”

Ashera let out a low laugh, his voice gentle.

“Do you want to take one last good look at me before you die?”

“But don’t worry. I told you, I won’t let you feel any pain.”

He spoke unhurriedly.

His pale hand remained over her heart, his fingertips pressing in with the slightest force.

As though he could already feel the beating of that heart.

“All you need to do is close your eyes. Leave the rest to me.”

Her red eyes looked at him calmly.

Ashera stared into them.

For one fleeting instant, the dark currents in his eyes receded like the tide, and a trace of lost helplessness flashed through their depths.

Thump.

Her milk-smooth skin was as fragile as a sheet of paper, as if in the very next second, a wound would split open beneath the pad of his finger.

“Standing there without moving-are you waiting for me to do it?”

He withdrew his hand, a thread of irritation entering his tone.

On the other side, hearing him say this, Beili gave a faint smile.

“If it’s only a few minutes, then there really isn’t much I can do-”

She spent a few seconds carefully taking in his sculpted features, perfect in every line.

“But if I think about it the other way, I’ve eaten my fill, I’ve had the mint water I wanted, and I’ve memorized your face. I can become a corpse in peace.”

As she spoke, she closed her eyes again, her tone becoming especially relaxed.

“Oh, maybe the gods will take pity on me and send me to heaven after I die… Since Hell exists, there’s no reason heaven shouldn’t, right?”

With his golden eyes lowered, Ashera watched her lips part and close ever so slightly. Something gathered continuously in the depths of his gaze, turning into a profound, shadowy light.

Black veins of blood crawled into his eyes, and he raised his hand.

“Then I’ll grant your wish and let you meet the gods.”

He spoke softly, the tenderness in his voice like poison wrapped in honey, suddenly turning cold and vicious.

Black mist surged from his palm, enveloping her like a net.
