Chapter 275

Butterfly Valley.

Madam Constance had been leisurely taking afternoon tea in the back garden. It was only when a servant told her Miss Bartholomew had returned that she abruptly realized just how careless she had been.

She had actually left her daughter alone in Tilisha and come back by herself.

And after being back for several days, she still had not sensed anything wrong.

Madam Constance shot to her feet, remorse reddening the rims of her eyes.

She wished she could rush out at once and hug Bartholomew. She wanted to burst into tears, to admit her mistake, to do everything she possibly could to make up for what she owed her daughter.

But Bartholomew did not blame her. Bartholomew was very calm.

Oh, and Bartholomew had brought a male friend back to Butterfly Valley.

That truly was unexpected.

The unfamiliar male friend recognized Madam Constance the moment he saw her for the first time, then greeted her warmly and politely. “Good day, Madam! I’m terribly sorry I wasn’t able to show you around properly when we met in Tilisha last time.”

With an outsider present, Madam Constance quickly held back the tears in her eyes.

For the moment, she had no time to look into why he would say something like “when we met in Tilisha last time.”

She had never seen him in Tilisha.

Also…

Remembering something important, Madam Constance welcomed the two of them to sit in the back garden. After having the servants bring over two portions of refreshments, she said,

“Luoluo, school is about to start.”

“Mother only just received the enrollment notice from Holy Island Academy yesterday.”

Her voice paused slightly.

“That said, do you want to go to Holy Island Academy?”

After all, something like that had happened before.

The Duke did hope both of his daughters would go, because before this, graduating from Holy Island Academy meant becoming a Noble with an excellent foundation in magic.

There were distinctions in status even among the Noble.

But Madam Constance believed that was already about to become a thing of the past, because now all members of the Noble could go to Holy Island.

So if Bartholomew shook her head now and said she did not want to go, Madam Constance would agree as well.

That was what Madam Constance thought.

…

Sitting in her chair with a teacup in her hands, Beili was lost in thought.

“Luoluo-”

“Luoluo-”

Madam Constance and Lance called out in unison.

Beili’s thoughts were instantly pulled back.

Coming back to herself in a daze, she lifted her eyes and saw Madam Constance and Lance both raising their brows, wearing identical expressions as they stared at her in confusion.

“Oh… where were we just now?”

Beili lifted the teacup in her hand and took a sip, asking as though nothing had happened.

Madam Constance’s brows drew together, worry in her eyes.

She thought Bartholomew was still bothered by the fact that she had come back ahead of her.

“I’m just a little muddled from the carriage ride,” Beili explained.

“So where were we?”

“We were saying Holy Island Academy is about to start-”

Seated on the other side, Lance, with his red hair and black eyes, curved his lips into a grin. His delicate face shone with a smile as brilliant as sunlight as he said,

“Want to go buy some school supplies?”

Lance deliberately steered the topic aside.

Going to Holy Island Academy-oh, he wanted Luoluo to go to Holy Island Academy far too much.

Originally, Lance had been hoping Madam Constance could persuade Luoluo a little.

Although that incident had happened at Holy Island Academy, when it came to studying magic, it was still more comprehensive and more professional than hiring a few Mage tutors at home.

Lance might not have any burning passion for learning magic, but he did like playing with a group of people his own age at the Academy.
It wasn’t like being in the Imperial Palace of Tilisha Imperial City. Though he had told them countless times there was no need to be so formal, those people would nod and agree on the surface, then still act according to every change in his expression.

He couldn’t let loose at all.

Holy Island Academy was different. The people there practically never treated him like the Prince of Tilisha.

Oh, if Luoluo was willing to go to Holy Island Academy, that was.

Lance swore he would take her to every fun place in Holy Island Academy, and he absolutely wouldn’t let her get bored!

He was getting off track.

In short, for a place that fun, it would be a terrible shame if Luoluo wasn’t there. That was what Lance thought.

Under the eager gaze of those long, pitch-black fox eyes, she hesitated for a moment after hearing the news that Holy Island Academy was about to start, then gave a small nod.

“Then what are we waiting for, Luoluo!”

Lance immediately set down the teacup in his hand and stood up, saying excitedly,

“Let’s go buy school supplies right now. Come on, come on! I’ll take you!”

Uh… This was Sainthos. Wasn’t she the one more familiar with it?

…

Lance.

Yes.

After breaking free from the dream, Beili left the Inn in a daze, numb all over.

Even the sunlight falling on her outside the Inn felt cold. Her shoulders were trembling.

Perhaps it had something to do with her having exhausted all her Mana.

Perhaps.

…

If she remembered correctly, Lance had appeared at this time.

What had he said back then?

Oh…

He had said-

What he said yesterday about leaving with her wasn’t just talk.

He kept his word.

So as soon as he returned to the palace last night, he had packed his luggage at top speed.

Then, early the next morning, he had gotten up and waited outside the Inn where she was staying.

Looking at the red-haired boy brimming with enthusiasm, Beili remembered what Bertie Swan had said in the dream:

“When darkness descends, the firstborn will die.”

These corresponded to Tilisha’s Ninth Plague, Darkness, and the Tenth Plague, the Death of the Firstborn.

In the murals of the tomb chamber, Lance had mentioned these disasters while explaining them to her.

But he had never said those two plagues would continue.

No. No one knew.

So Beili decided to take Lance away from Tilisha.

The curse that had descended upon Tilisha couldn’t possibly cross thousands of miles and fall upon Sainthos too, could it?

Until she found a way to break the curse, Lance should stay away from Tilisha for now.

Oh, of course, she hadn’t hidden the matter of the Tenth Plague from him. But Lance had only laughed it off and hadn’t taken her words to heart.

She understood.

After all, if someone dreamed of the prophet from a tomb mural and the prophet explained the continuation of the Tenth Plague to her, anyone who heard that explanation would think she was still half-asleep.

…

The carriage wheels turned, making a dull rumbling sound.

When Beili came back to herself, she was already inside a carriage.

Lance was sitting across from her.

“Where are we going…”

She asked blankly, confusion in her red eyes.

“Sainthos Imperial City! We’re going to buy your school supplies!”

Lance said with a beaming smile. Then his long, narrow fox eyes widened.

“Luoluo…”

After hesitating for a while, he chose his words carefully.

“I seriously suspect you peeked at the memories from the Tilisha Disaster Year and got frightened by all those tragic scenes. Otherwise, why have you been so out of it ever since you got the Memory Can?”

His pitch-black eyes looked at her.
