Chapter 277

With more Noble students coming to Holy Island Academy, the class format had changed to one where students chose their own lectures.

Every day, each Magic Mentor would appear at fixed times in certain classrooms, and the students could attend whichever class they liked.

If they arrived late and the class they wanted was already full, they could simply step out, turn a corner, and make do in another classroom.

Gifted students still had private evening lessons.

Children without talent, after finishing their daytime classes, were free to play around Holy Island as they pleased.

Although Beili had raised the difficulty for herself, she was not so studious as to go that far.

For one thing, Bartholomew truly had no talent for conventional magic. For another, after a full day of classes, she wanted to rest properly too.

She would go to the library building, borrow a few books, and bring them back to the dormitory to read.

Though as she read, her mind would inevitably start to wander.

-Renee, who shared her room, had seen her spacing out over a book several times, so Renee was always telling Lance that she was only pretending to be diligent.

Saw. Yes, saw.

Apparently, the King of Tilisha had spent a fortune hiring a Mage from the Nauze Kingdom to craft a pair of golden artificial eyes, which were then placed into Renee’s eye sockets.

What no one knew was what the world looked like to Renee after she opened her eyes.

But Lance told Beili that Renee’s temper had gotten even worse.

That was beside the point.

Beili took a sip of cocoa milk that was just the right temperature and said softly, “Why does Your Highness still need to attend such a basic magic class?”

She thought of the original story. After the male lead held his Coming-of-Age Ceremony, his return to Holy Island Academy would mark the start of his graduation courses.

The plotline in the book unfolded from there.

Beili could no longer remember the details of the book’s plot.

“I like listening to basic magic classes.”

That was how Cyril answered her.

Beili looked at Cyril, and all she could think of was the life-extension operation his father wanted to perform.

Beili had not told Cyril about it yet.

She was not sure whether she should bring it up.

After all, when it came down to it, she and Cyril were not actually close.

Even if he had said with his own mouth that she did not agree to cancel the engagement.

Even if, in the traditional sense, she was still his fiancée.

Their relationship remained that of strangers.

Cyril probably would not believe anything she said.

Just like Lance had not believed her.

Unless she could produce evidence.

Evidence, evidence… She had no evidence.

Her only evidence was dream after dream.

Dreams, dreams…

Was this a dream or reality?

“Bartholomew.”

Beside her, Cyril spoke in a cold voice, pulling her wandering thoughts back.

She turned to look and saw obvious reproach rising in those icy purple eyes.

“You got up this early and were the first to arrive in the classroom just so you could daydream during magic class?” Cyril asked coldly.

“…Is this a dream or reality?”

She murmured.

“What?”

Beili snapped fully back to her senses and saw Cyril staring at her with a frown.

What had she been thinking about just now?

Oh, right.

It was fine. She had already locked the Demon inside the dream.

Whether it was the king of Sainthos or the king of Nauze,

if they wanted to use the body of a close blood relative to extend their own lives, then without the Demon to help grant their wish, it would all be in vain.

“I said…”

She blinked her red eyes lightly and said, “This magic class seems a little boring.”

Cyril gave a cold laugh.

“Is that so? So you believe Magic Mentor Cassius Alfredo’s healing magic class is not very well taught.”

…Cassius?

Only after hearing Cyril’s words did Beili turn her head back.

The blond man in white stood at the podium. His tranquil, emerald-green eyes, like a quiet lake, happened to lift and meet hers in the corner.
Because she’d chosen the magic class at random, Beili had also wandered into a classroom at random. She had no idea that the Magic Mentor teaching this class would actually be him…

“Bartholomew Constance.”

The Magic Mentor on the platform met her gaze and gently spoke her name.

“You’ll be my assistant for the demonstration. Please come up to the platform.”

Fine, fine, fine.

Only then did Beili realize that all the other students in the classroom had their heads lowered, pretending to think. Almost no one had been looking up at the platform with bright, eager eyes like she had.

When Beili stood, she shot Cyril, who was beside her, a subtle look.

Had this guy done it on purpose?

Cyril’s lashes were lowered, his expression cold and solemn, but he very deliberately avoided looking at her.

Beili walked to the front of the platform and lifted her red eyes, helplessly looking at the blond, blue-eyed man draped in a Magic Mentor’s cloak.

Doctor Cassius… Tutor Cassius was looking at her with an encouraging smile.

Healing magic was the magic she was worst at.

No, not worst at. She knew absolutely nothing about it.

The pressure shot straight to the max.

She wanted to fast-forward through this class.

“Now, place your hand on it.”

Beili placed her hand down.

Only then did she notice that, on a pure white handkerchief, a butterfly the color of dead leaves lay quietly.

“I found it on my way to the classroom. As you can clearly see, it’s injured.”

His gentle voice offered the explanation deliberately before he began teaching her in detail.

“Bartholomew, next, please repeat my incantation.”

Beili steeled herself and recited after him.

The unfamiliar, complicated spell felt as if it were trying to tie the part of her body responsible for making sounds into a bow.

Beili tried several times, and failed every time.

But the Magic Mentor for this class was extremely patient.

No matter how many times she failed, he slowly and clearly repeated the incantation for her, until she could say it fluently.

Her hand covered the dying, dead-leaf-colored butterfly, and a faint, glowing green light rose from her palm.

A moment later, the dead-leaf-colored butterfly flew out from beneath her hand.

Beili secretly let out a breath of relief, and a tiny sense of accomplishment rose in her heart.

“You did very well.”

The Magic Mentor spoke gently, then raised a hand and lightly patted her on the head.

The female students below were not happy about that.

“Professor Cassius, aren’t you being a little biased?”

“Professor Cassius, the student you called up for a demonstration last time didn’t get treated like this.”

“Professor Cassius, with the way you’re teaching, I’m sure every student in this classroom has learned the spell by now.”

“I was just listening from down here, over and over, and even I learned it.”

…

Hearing the female students’ pointed remarks, the Magic Mentor smiled.

“That’s a good thing.”

He spoke with refined composure.

“That will be all for today’s class. Dismissed.”

Then he lowered his head to look at her again, his voice turning gentle.

“You stay behind.”

…

“Miss Bartholomew.”

Cassius called her name in a somewhat helpless tone.

Beili abruptly snapped back to herself and looked up, only to find that she was sitting on a bench, with several coconut trees behind her.

Their tall, straight trunks and long leaves stretched outward, failing completely to block the sun.

Beili raised a hand to shield herself from the dazzling sunlight and asked as if nothing had happened, “Right, where were we just now?”

Cassius lifted his face slightly, and the monocle attached to a fine gold chain flashed with a clear, cold glint.

Almost at once, Beili read a hint of observation and analysis in those emerald eyes.
