Survival Guide After Accidentally Kissing a Demon - Chapter 280
Chapter 280
As she spoke, the gray-haired, red-eyed girl had already risen from the bench. She smoothed out the skirt of her pale linen academy uniform, then brushed past Renee without the slightest trace of attachment.
Renee froze for a moment, then hurried after her, calling, “Wait! Where are you going? Where are you going?”
Beili ignored Renee’s angry shouts and simply kept walking toward the dormitory building.
It did not take long for Renee to catch up. As she walked beside her, she snapped, “Bartholomew, stop right there! Do you hear me?”
Beili merely glanced at her, her tone carrying a trace of cool indifference.
“In what capacity are you speaking to me, Your Highness Renee?”
“I…”
Renee was stunned.
She had not expected Bartholomew to ask that, and for a moment, she was at a loss for words.
Of course she could not say she was the princess of Tilisha, because the other girl was a Noble of Sainthos.
And this was Holy Island.
Brother Lance had told her more than once that here, there was no obvious hierarchy between students.
They were not friends, either.
Oh, at most, they were roommates who just so happened to live in the same dorm room.
So Bartholomew had no need to obey her orders at all.
Of course, it had not been a coincidence. She had deliberately arranged to share a room with Bartholomew.
So Renee could only follow beside Bartholomew for a few steps. Lowering her voice slightly, she said through gritted teeth, “Because my brother likes you! Damn it! Bartholomew, are you satisfied now?”
She had to keep an eye on this restless woman for Brother Lance!
A layer of angry red rose over her delicate face, and her fists clenched tight.
Beili was amused by Renee’s answer, delivered as though she were gnashing her teeth. The corners of her mouth lifted slightly, but she quickly suppressed the smile.
Then, with a touch more seriousness in her voice, she answered directly, “Your Highness, you don’t need to worry. I won’t be with your brother.”
It was the answer Renee could least accept.
Hearing Bartholomew’s reply, Renee abruptly lifted her head. Her eyes went wide, and disbelief spread across her face.
“Why? Brother Lance is so outstanding. Why don’t you like him?”
Because her false golden eyes could not convey emotion, the expression she showed became unconsciously exaggerated, her features almost scrunching together.
“If you like someone, you like them. If you don’t, you don’t.”
Beili shook her head gently and said calmly, “Your Highness Renee, you’re still young. You’ll understand in the future.”
“I’m not young! I understand!”
Renee furrowed her brows, her cheeks puffing slightly with anger as she said loudly, “That Second Prince of Sainthos-I fell in love with him at first sight.”
Beili suddenly stopped walking.
“My eyes are the token of love between us. Once I find him, I’ll marry him. We’ll be happy together.”
By the end, Renee’s brows had relaxed, and the curve of her lips carried a note of longing.
Beili’s red eyes slowly shifted. In silence, she looked at the red-haired, golden-eyed girl for several seconds.
The memories that had been missing all this time suddenly began to fill in, bit by bit, at that very moment.
Beili abruptly remembered what Lance had told her about Princess Renee.
How had her eyes disappeared?
Because she had dug them out willingly and given them to the other person.
As hard as it was to believe, that was exactly how Princess Renee had explained the process of losing her eyes to her brother and father.
So after the princess of Tilisha lost both eyes, the reason the Tilisha Royal Family had not investigated the disappearance of those eyes was, of course, because Your Highness herself had refused to allow it.
Not only that, but Princess Renee had also been sending people everywhere to search for the whereabouts of Sainthos’s Second Prince.
Her lovesick devotion made a trace of pity creep into Beili’s gaze.
“What are you looking at me for?”
Princess Renee snapped back to herself, reined in the expression on her face, and glared at her.
Then, remembering the matter at hand, she said, “Bartholomew, what exactly are you thinking? You have to give me a reason!”
“Of course it’s because…”
Beili thought of Cyril.
Then she thought of how Cyril had deliberately tripped her up that morning.
So she answered Renee, “I already have an engagement with our Light and Pride of Sainthos, Prince Cyril.”
Renee looked as if a seagull had just relieved itself in her hair. After a moment, she said, “I don’t believe you!”
Beili remained perfectly calm. “If you don’t believe me, you can ask Prince Cyril yourself. Perhaps in your eyes, his answer will be more credible than mine.”
Renee stared at her for a long while.
“Hmph! I don’t care. In any case, you’re not allowed to hurt my Brother Lance!”
With that, Renee turned and ran off.
Her fiery red hair streamed in the wind like a blazing flame.
Beili glanced back at the red-haired girl’s retreating figure, lightly pressed her lips together, and had just continued walking when she suddenly caught sight of the corridor not far away.
A black-haired, purple-eyed boy was passing by with several other students.
Those icy purple eyes landed on her. Clearly, he had heard what she said.
Oh.
Did this guy have some kind of rule attached to him? As long as someone talked about him behind his back, he would just so happen to run into them.
Beili withdrew her gaze and headed toward the dormitory.
…
When she came back to herself again, Beili found that she was already on the chaise longue in the corner of her room.
Several soft blankets had been spread over it, and she was curled up lazily among them, a thin quilt wrapped around her body.
The storybook in her hand had a slightly worn spine, as though it had been flipped through many times.
Beili looked down to check herself. Only then did she realize that, at some point, she had already bathed and changed into a loose, comfortable nightgown.
Even the storybook in her hand had, without her noticing, been read almost a third of the way through.
On the low table beside her sat a bottle of medicine, an exquisite conch shell, and a half-finished cup of hot water. Beneath the medicine bottle was a note.
Beili picked up the note and saw what was written on it:
I have already fed you today’s dose of medicine. Please do not take it again.
The name signed at the bottom was-Cassius, who will follow you forever.
The night breeze drifted gently in through the open window, stirring her long silver-gray curls.
Only then did Beili realize the window had not been closed. The gauze curtain billowed in the wind, as if someone had left through it not long ago.
A faint, almost imperceptible herbal fragrance still lingered in the air.
Knock, knock-
A sudden knock sounded at the door.
“Who is it?” Beili asked in confusion.
“There are only two of us in this dorm. Who else could it be besides me?”
Renee’s irritated voice came from outside the door.
“Come in,” Beili said.
A moment later, the door slowly opened.
The first thing Beili saw was a huge bouquet of purple lavender. Only after that did she see red-haired Renee.
Beili arched a brow slightly and said, “If you’re here to apologize, just say it. There’s no need to bring a gift.”
