Survival Guide After Accidentally Kissing a Demon - Chapter 298
Chapter 298
Lance had waited in her room for her all night.
When Beili heard the news, her eyes widened in shock. For some reason, she also felt a little afraid.
The fear came out of nowhere, as if Lance getting angry were something utterly terrifying.
Beili steadied herself and asked Renee to explain what had happened first.
Renee recalled,
“As soon as I woke up, I called Brother Lance…”
Only, Lance did not answer.
Renee did not mind. After all, Brother Lance was not even answering their father’s calls now.
Brother Lance no longer liked using the Communication Orb.
After washing up and changing clothes, Renee went out to the boys’ dormitory to look for Brother Lance.
The dorm supervisor downstairs pointed behind her.
There were already quite a few female students standing below the boys’ dormitory.
Without exception, they had all come to wait for Brother Lance.
There was no way Renee would stand around foolishly like everyone else.
She was Tilisha’s only princess.
Renee turned her head and immediately used Beast Transformation, turning into a fox. She slipped past the dorm supervisor’s attempt to stop her and ran into the residence hall.
A long while later, she stormed back out in a fury.
Because Brother Lance simply would not open the door for her.
On the wall beside the dorm room door, the nameplate for Lance Fitzgerald was clearly lit, proving that Brother Lance was inside. But no matter how many times she rang the doorbell, no matter how loudly she called out for her brother from outside, he gave no response.
Naturally, Renee assumed Lance was still angry about the Golden Eye incident.
Even though that matter had already happened several days ago.
Through the door, she muttered,
“Brother really is such a petty ghost. And here I came all this way to deliver Bartholomew’s letter to you.”
Then she left in a huff.
And just like that, the matter of delivering the letter was temporarily pushed to the back of Renee’s mind.
She spent the day playing around Holy Island with a few students and only returned to the dormitory at night.
It was only after Renee got back to the dorm that she discovered Brother Lance had actually appeared in their room.
More precisely, he had appeared in Bartholomew’s bedroom.
At first, Renee thought Bartholomew had come back.
She was just about to tell Bartholomew that she had not found Brother Lance and probably could not deliver the letter.
But when she looked through the half-open door, she discovered that the person inside was not Bartholomew, but Lance.
Brother Lance was sitting by the bed, saying nothing at all, his expression so dark it was frightening.
“Bartholomew-”
Renee suddenly remembered something.
She wiped her tears and demanded in an accusing tone,
“You actually didn’t come back all night yesterday! And you didn’t go looking for Brother Lance either. Who did you go out with?”
Beili choked on the question.
Of course she could not tell Renee that she had gone off to absorb Mana. She could only explain in a flat voice,
“I had something to do yesterday, so I went back to Sainthos.”
“Where you went isn’t important. What’s important is, who did you spend Valentine’s Day with?”
Renee pressed relentlessly.
-But Beili had not even known yesterday was Valentine’s Day…
Beili’s lashes stilled for a moment. After thinking it over, she decided to skip the topic and asked,
“So what happened after that?”
Because as things stood, these events did not seem like enough to make Renee break down like this, crying her eyes out without caring about her image.
Renee blinked her red, swollen eyes and continued to recall-
Of course Renee was delighted when she saw Lance.
In the past, she would have thrown herself at Brother Lance and given him an enormously enthusiastic hug.
But the Brother Lance in the room was visibly grim.
Even Renee, willful as she had been since childhood, knew this was a time to read his mood.
“…”
She gently poked her head through the crack in the door and said cautiously, “Brother Lance, are you waiting for Bartholomew?”
“Where did she go?”
Brother Lance asked her.
“I don’t know. She left early this morning.”
After saying that, Renee handed the letter to Lance.
“Brother Lance, this is the letter Bartholomew asked me to give you.”
Lance took the letter with a dark expression and opened it for a glance.
Then, right in front of Renee, he tore it to shreds.
When Renee saw Lance tear up the letter, she froze at first. Then she felt a little happy.
Because at the time, she thought Brother Lance no longer liked Bartholomew.
If Brother Lance had decided not to like Bartholomew anymore, how could that not be a good thing?
With that thought, Renee immediately said to Lance,
“There is nothing about Bartholomew worth liking. Brother Lance deserves someone better!”
But the moment the words left her mouth, Brother Lance spat a single cold word at her.
“Get out.”
Renee had never heard that word from Brother Lance before. Even if she had, he had certainly never said it to her.
At the time, Renee was both hurt and angry. She stamped her foot, picked up the scraps of paper from the floor, and was just about to argue with Lance.
In the next second,
an invisible force seized her by the throat and lifted her up with terrifying speed.
Her feet instantly left the floor.
Renee felt as if her head was about to hit the ceiling. The choking sensation made it feel like every last breath of oxygen in her body had been drained away.
Just as she was about to faint, that force flung her out of the room.
She crashed heavily to the floor.
Renee felt she must have lost consciousness for a while.
When she woke again, she was still lying on the ice-cold wooden floor.
And that strange, frigid Brother Lance was still sitting quietly in Bartholomew’s room.
But Renee no longer dared disturb him.
Renee did not even dare sleep.
She hid beneath the blankets in her room, not daring to make a sound, drifting in and out of restless sleep.
It was probably around daybreak when she finally noticed through the crack in the door that Bartholomew’s room was empty.
Only after Brother Lance left did Renee dare to burst into tears.
…
After hearing Renee’s words, Beili’s brows drew together.
Looking at the obvious strangulation marks on Renee’s neck, she felt confused, but even more than that, uneasy.
Because Lance’s current gloomy, obsessive state almost overlapped with another person in her mind.
After a moment of silence, Beili said calmly,
“I’ll go find him and ask.”
With that, she turned and left the room.
The girls’ dormitory building and the boys’ dormitory building were practically on opposite ends of Holy Island Academy.
It was not a short walk between them.
On her way to the boys’ dormitory building, Beili finally learned what the students had all been talking about-
The Tower of Holy Island Academy’s library building had collapsed.
