Chapter 321

Was it really that obvious…?

She tried to keep her voice calm, but she couldn’t hide the tremor in it.

Beili quickly sniffed and took a shallow breath, struggling to rein in her emotions.

“It’s nothing. My nose is just a little itchy.”

“Make sure you dress warmly.”

Mrs. Constance offered a few more concerned reminders before saying she wanted to go back to sleep.

Beili ended the conversation and hung up the Communication Orb.

She had thought she would feel relieved, but her emotions still seemed trapped within a cocoon of black silk.

The gray-and-white image of Mrs. Constance’s death lingered stubbornly in her mind.

Her vision blurred, and tears slipped uncontrollably from the corners of her eyes.

Then a cold finger gently wiped them away.

Beili’s red eyes froze, her lashes going still. A moment later, a man’s soft voice sounded beside her.

“Why are you crying?”

His tone was gentle and unhurried, carrying a hint of a lazy smile.

Beili turned to look at the man lying beside her, his long silver hair cascading around him and his golden eyes curved in amusement. She hurriedly blinked back her tears.

Her voice was slightly hoarse when she asked, “When are we?”

The man gave a low chuckle but did not rush to answer. He merely lifted one arm toward her in invitation.

Beili understood immediately. Though she hesitated inwardly, she did not dare show it. She shifted closer and nestled into his icy embrace.

His cool strands of hair fell across her face.

Ashera gently stroked her back before answering, “I don’t know. Perhaps you would know better than I do.”

Beili discreetly wiped her tears on Ashera’s Black Robe. He did not object.

She watched as a light breeze stirred the white gauze curtains, making them sway softly.

A faint floral fragrance filled the room, coming from the fresh flowers arranged by the windowsill.

It was a large bouquet of lavender.

Beili threw back the covers and got out of bed, accidentally kicking the low table with her toes.

There was a muffled thud.

Something on the table was knocked off.

It fell to the floor and rolled away.

Beili lowered her gaze and saw a golden orb.

The Golden Eye.

Beili recognized it instantly.

She swept her gaze around the room. It had been thoroughly rummaged through, with clothes, books, and all sorts of miscellaneous items scattered everywhere, not yet put back in order.

So she had awakened at the exact point in time just after she entered the dream and rescued Renee and Lance.

There were advantages and disadvantages to returning to this moment.

The advantage was that the Library Tower was still standing firmly and had not collapsed. Mrs. Constance was also still in the dark, unaware that Beili was a wandering soul from another world. Lisa and her Half-beast husband were both still alive and well, too.

The disadvantage was that the person she had rescued from the Dream Cage was not Lance, but Ashera in his Youth Form.

However, she had already broken open the Dream Cage. If Lance was still inside the dream, he should have been released as well.

If she went to the infirmary in the Medical Building now, would she find Lance awake?

Or would Young Ashera open his eyes in Lance’s body again?

If she wanted to know the answer, perhaps the person here with her would know better than anyone else.

“That red-haired young man…”

“Hmm?”

Just as Beili was about to ask, Ashera raised an eyebrow. His smiling eyes were unmistakably devoid of warmth.

“I want to go to the Medical Building.”

Reading the situation perfectly, Beili swiftly changed the way she phrased her question.

“Or… could you turn time back one more day?”

Beili knew she was pushing her luck, but she desperately wanted to save Lance.

She only needed to return to the day before it happened. Thinking back carefully, that had been the day of the welcome ball.

“No.”

Ashera refused without hesitation, his cold hand gently lifting her face.

Beili knew her request was somewhat presumptuous, but she still pressed him, unwilling to give up.

“Why not?”

“Because I have no Mana left.”

The man’s voice was languid.

Beili had no way to argue with that. All she could do was probe in a small, tentative voice.

“Then… once you’ve gathered enough Mana, you’ll be able to do it?”

His gilded eyes narrowed slightly, a dangerous gleam flashing within them.

“Perhaps.”

After answering, he continued slowly, “As for the infirmary you mentioned, we aren’t going there now.”

We.

He said it so naturally, deciding her itinerary for her in an instant.

“Then where do you want to go?” Beili had no choice but to ask.

What Beili truly wanted to ask about was Lance and Young Ashera, but she knew perfectly well that the man before her hated explaining himself.

Knock, knock, knock.

Just then, a series of knocks came from outside the door. They both turned toward it.

Beili’s lashes stilled as she realized the person outside was probably Renee.

According to her memories of the last time, Renee would take away the lamb pillow while she was asleep.
But this time was different.

This time, she was awake, and Ashera was standing beside her.

Beili glanced at Ashera, hesitation in her eyes as she wondered what would happen if those two came face-to-face.

At the same time, a softly chanted incantation sounded outside the door. It seemed to be some kind of unlocking spell.

Unlike her brother, Renee recited spells with ease. With a click, the locked door opened.

“Perfect timing. Princess Renee is here. First, remove the Charm Technique placed on her…”

Before Beili could finish speaking, she involuntarily underwent Beast Transformation and shifted into Butterfly Form. A cloud of black mist swept her up and carried her out through the half-open window.

The wind howled in her ears, and the powerful air currents made it difficult to keep her eyes open. Beili was baffled.

Was Ashera… avoiding Renee?

Ashera had gouged out Renee’s eyes, while Renee, whether because she had truly fallen in love with him at first sight or because she had been charmed, was hopelessly in love with him. Given all that, it really was best for them not to meet.

Still, fleeing on the spot seemed a little… out of character for Ashera.

Beili turned her head.

Just before the room disappeared into her blind spot, she saw that the red-haired girl had failed to notice them leaving through Beast Transformation and was creeping quietly toward the bed.

Beili felt that something was strange, but before long, she pushed the feeling aside.

Because she could hardly believe that Ashera was forcibly taking her away from Holy Island.

Worse, he wasn’t even using a Teleportation Array.

He was flying straight across the sea in a single direction.

The moment they left Holy Island’s boundaries, the sea wind whipped against her face, while the merciless sun baked her from above.

“There is a Teleportation Array, you know…”

Beili spoke helplessly.

Dangling by her wings from the black mist, she looked back at Holy Island, which had already shrunk to the size of a sesame seed. It seemed a little late to remind him now.

But after they had flown over the sea for an entire day without reaching the other side, she began to think it might not have been too late after all. She should have stood her ground and made him turn back to Holy Island so they could use the Teleportation Array.

Is this his way of getting revenge? Beili wondered in silence.

“Where are you planning to go?” she asked.

The man’s faintly amused voice emerged from the black mist.

“Somewhere we won’t be disturbed.”

…

Night fell.

The bright moon cast down its cool, pale light.

Still holding Beili aloft, Ashera descended onto a deserted island.

Waves crashed against the reefs along the shore.

Wrapped in the black mist, Beili involuntarily shifted back into human form in the blink of an eye.

“Why… can you control my form?”

Was it because of the heart?

Beili had wondered about this for a long time.

Ashera did not answer her question.

With one arm around her waist, he swept his golden gaze over the palm trees lining the shore.

Then he raised a hand and traced a line through the air with his fingertip.

A thin blanket woven from black mist appeared in midair. Its ends curled around two palm trees, forming a simple hammock.

Beili had barely glanced at it when Ashera drew her in by the waist and lay down with her in the hammock.

It was both weightless and sturdy, making her feel as though she were still flying.

“Are we…”

Lying against his cold chest, Beili spoke uncertainly.

“We’ve been flying all day. You need to rest.”

Ashera raised a fingertip toward her forehead as he spoke.

Quick to react, Beili reached out and caught his finger.

She clasped his cold, pale index finger in her hand and tilted her face up to look at him.

His starlight-drenched silver hair fell around his finely sculpted features.

With the moonlight behind him, a dark, unfathomable gleam lurked in the golden eyes fixed upon her.

“Why… aren’t you angry with me?”

Beili honestly didn’t understand.

After the deception of the Dream Cage had been exposed, the form most likely to become crazed with anger was acting as though nothing had happened.

The other one, meanwhile, had been so furious that he’d completely lost control.

Beili asked him directly because she wanted to probe for more information. Perhaps the actions of Ashera in Youth Form when he was angry had frightened her.

“Who told you I’m not angry?”

At her question, the man countered with a faint, ambiguous smile.

“What… Do I have to be like him and kill everyone around you before you’ll call me angry?”

Beili pressed her lips together, feeling as though he had instantly struck her weakest point.

On the day she built the Dream Cage, she had already been prepared to keep him imprisoned forever.

Now that the Dream Cage was broken, Beili could only accept reality.

“Then what will it take for you to stop being angry?” Beili asked softly, lowering her red eyes.

Ashera reached out, caught her by the chin, and tilted her face up.

The smile vanished from the corners of his eyes. He studied her expression for several seconds before asking quietly,

“Why do you treat him differently from me?”
