Chapter 341

As Beili spoke, she looked at Cyril.

Those two items were supposed to be retrieved by the two of them in the first place.

And in Susanna’s dream, the process by which they encountered this opportunity had not been nearly so complicated.

Nor had time been distorted.

Now that both of them were here, Beili had to make sure they could actually bring the items out of the secret realm.

“I know this may sound absurd, but in the prophetic dream, the ones who retrieved the items were you and Susanna,” she said.

There were a few more people here now, but who knew what would happen? Events had long since diverged from the original story.

She could only hope the opportunity was still waiting for them.

Cyril frowned slightly at her words. He fell into thought but said nothing.

The room lapsed into a brief silence.

“Your Highness, you said an entire year has passed-”

Clarence, who was sitting nearby, could not help asking,

“What happened during that year? And the injuries on your body…”

His azure gaze fell on the scars visible through the tears in Cyril’s shirt.

“To put it briefly…”

There was no warmth in Cyril’s voice, and his speech slowed slightly.

“I came to the Tilisha Kingdom as a hostage and tried to stop the war, but I failed.”

“Did the Nauze Kingdom seize the opportunity to start a war?”

Clarence pressed.

“No. Tilisha did,” Cyril replied.

The air in the room seemed to freeze.

“Tilisha has the weakest magical forces of the three kingdoms…” Clarence’s brows knitted tightly together. “Why would they start a war?”

“The king of Tilisha has allied himself with darkness.”

An icy gleam flashed in Cyril’s violet eyes.

“After they started the war, dark creature hordes began appearing throughout the Northern Region and invaded Sainthos territory.”

“What?”

Beili watched Clarence shoot to his feet. With a loud thud, his head struck the low, slanted ceiling, but he seemed not to feel the pain.

The instant he heard the news, Clarence could almost picture the Knight Order and his family fighting the dark creature hordes.

His fists clenched, his knuckles turning white.

He instinctively turned around. When he met that pair of red eyes, the blue-eyed boy with short, curly brown hair opened his mouth.

In the end, however, his fists slowly relaxed.

He sat back down and lowered his blue eyes, his thoughts impossible to read.

A heavy atmosphere spread through the cramped attic room. Even the air seemed to have solidified.

“Miss Susanna.”

Cassius’s gentle voice broke the silence.

“What is the situation in Sainthos now?”

“Dark creature hordes have attacked the Town and Noble territory. Everyone thought the Imperial Palace would be safer than anywhere else in Sainthos because it was protected by the Knight Order and a Mage contingent,” Susanna explained quietly. “So most members of the Noble class chose to take refuge in the Imperial Palace. But…”

Her voice trailed off.

She hesitated for two seconds before continuing.

“For some reason, His Majesty ordered the Knight Order not to attack the dark creature hordes. He also had the Mage contingent remove every defensive Magic Array…”

“In short… things aren’t looking good in the imperial capital, either.”

After putting it as tactfully as she could, Susanna finally gathered her courage. She turned to the person beside her and said softly,

“Sister… Father was attacked by a dark creature. He’s badly injured… He…”

Susanna pressed her lips together as tears welled in her eyes.

Cyril’s gaze shifted to Bartholomew. She merely gave a quiet “Mm.” Her expression remained perfectly calm, as though she did not care at all.
It seemed that no death in the Butterfly Family-no, no death anywhere in this world-could move her anymore.

It was a maddening kind of calm.

“Then…”

Cyril wanted to bring the subject to a close, so he asked, “How many of us are going to retrieve the item tomorrow?”

“Four,” Beili replied.

Clarence realized almost immediately that she had excluded him. He jerked his head up, anxiety flashing through the blue eyes beneath his chestnut curls.

“Five…”

“Time passes too quickly for you in the Far South, Clarence.”

Beili turned her red eyes toward him, her brows drawing together slightly.

“I don’t want to turn around and find your hair completely white, or even…”

She couldn’t finish.

Clarence’s gaze suddenly became utterly sincere.

“No Knight would choose to retreat and hide at a time like this, Miss Bartholomew,” he blurted out. “Even if I come back out as an old man-or die-I still want to go with you.”

“…”

He had practically confessed his feelings in front of everyone else.

Three seconds after the words left his mouth, Clarence realized what he had said. His face instantly turned scarlet.

He immediately underwent Beast Transformation, becoming a wolf. With his ears and tail drooping, he let out a series of pitiful whimpers, jumped off the bed, and hid underneath it.

On the other side of the room, Beili froze for several seconds at the look in Clarence’s eyes and the words he had spoken.

Then, in the next instant, she suddenly felt someone’s gaze fall upon her.

It was cold enough to cut to the bone.

But when she looked around, all she saw were vaguely complicated expressions on the other three faces.

…

After a brief discussion, the five of them decided to rest for the night and set out together the next day.

The attic room had only one bed and not even a single chair.

They couldn’t very well make someone sleep in the bathroom.

That left them no choice but to share the same bed.

To make the idea of men and women sleeping in one bed less awkward, everyone tacitly underwent Beast Transformation and assumed their Beast Form.

The butterfly took one pillow, while the White Swan took the other. The Black Panther slowly swished his tail, curled his body into a semicircle, and lay at the foot of the bed.

The bat hung upside down from the window curtains.

As for the Grey Wolf… no matter how they tried to persuade him, he insisted on sleeping beneath the bed.

The Town in the south was less affected by the polar day.

When night fell, the sky dimmed slightly, turning a murky dark red that seeped in through the narrow window.

Beili waited for a while until the room had fallen silent, then opened the Dream Domain belonging to each of the four. Not a single Dream Gate was in sight.

None of them were asleep.

Beili sat on a swing in the Dream Domain and waited. Eventually, Clarence’s gray door appeared.

The pink door appeared after that.

By the time dawn came and Beili left the Dream Domain, Doctor Cassius and Cyril still had not truly fallen asleep.

…

Their group had grown from three members to five.

The others’ Beast Forms were manageable, but Cyril’s was especially enormous. He alone was bigger than the other four combined.

Beili had no choice but to conjure a larger Flying Carpet.

“I don’t have to undergo Beast Transformation,” Cyril said, glancing at her Flying Carpet.

Doctor Cassius had already opened the old pocket watch he carried and placed it on the Flying Carpet so that everyone could monitor changes in the rate at which time passed.

Carrying one person and four beasts, the black Flying Carpet left the Town and flew toward the Far South once more.
