Chapter 347

When Beili opened her eyes, she was still in her Beast Form, resting on a soft pillow.

She heard someone sniffling beside her.

Turning her gaze, she saw Susanna quietly crying.

“What’s wrong?”

The butterfly with shimmering blue-green wings spoke in a girl’s calm voice.

Susanna seemed startled by the sudden question. Her shoulders jerked, and she nearly sprang off the cushion.

“Sister Bartholomew…”

Susanna hurriedly wiped the tears from her face, but her voice was still thick with emotion.

“Did I wake you?” she asked.

“No.”

In the blink of an eye, Beili returned to her human form and sat up on the mattress.

“I simply got enough sleep. I happened to hear you crying when I woke up,” she said evenly.

“What happened?” she asked again.

Susanna lowered her pale eyes and answered softly, “Sister Bartholomew, I miss Father.”

“He isn’t your father.”

Beili glanced away, her red eyes calm as she reminded her, “Although you unilaterally broke off our agreement, you did obtain the Sacred Artifact in the end. For that reason, I’ll still take you to see your mother. You’ll be able to meet your biological father there as well.”

“Although your biological father may not be as…” Old as you imagine.

Beili swallowed the last two words.

After a pause, she continued, “But not now. It would be rather inconvenient at the moment.”

She had phrased it tactfully.

Susanna, however, fell silent for a few seconds before quietly objecting.

“Duke Constance is my father, just as you are my sister.”

Her voice was unwavering.

“We may not be related by blood, but I already consider all of you my family.”

Beili opened her mouth, then silently closed it again.

Susanna continued, “Father wanted to see you right up until the end, Sister Bartholomew. He said he spoke too harshly after you flew away.”

Susanna’s eyes reddened once more.

“He died full of regret.”

Beili said nothing.

After a long while, she finally sighed.

At least, now that the end was near, none of that mattered anymore.

She no longer had the energy to dwell on it.

…

Cyril was keeping watch outside the tent.

The orange-red flames danced before him, casting a long shadow behind him.

Beili lifted the tent flap and stepped outside, sweeping her gaze across the pitch-black desert.

Under the firelight, faint magical ripples seemed to shimmer around them.

Cyril had probably erected an invisible defensive barrier.

At the sound of movement, Cyril raised his head and gave her a cool glance with his violet eyes.

“You’re awake?”

Beili nodded with a quiet hum.

She sat down across from him, the firelight reflected in her red eyes like two dancing flames.

After two seconds of silence, they both spoke at once.

“There are two things I would like to ask of Your Highness…”

“What are you planning to do?”

Cyril cleared his throat. “You go first. What did you want to ask of me?”

“First, both elders of the Constance Family are now dead.”

Beili lowered her red eyes, her voice calm.

“If the war ends, I would rather make Susanna the heir to the Constance Family than allow one of the Butterfly Family’s distant relatives to inherit it.”

Cyril paused.

“What about you? What are you planning?”

Beili did not answer and continued, “That’s the first matter. The second is that I’ve heard of a spell called Memory Insight, which allows someone to directly examine another person’s memories.”

“I was wondering whether Your Highness has heard of it, or perhaps even knows how to use it?” Beili asked.

“Memory Insight is a spell that only a High-level Mage can cast, and even then, they must specialize in consciousness magic.”

Cyril frowned slightly but answered truthfully.

“The Mage casting Memory Insight must possess more Mana than the person whose memories are being examined. Otherwise, the caster will suffer a backlash.” He paused. “As it happens, I know a Mage in the Imperial Palace who can use this kind of magic.”

“Whose memories do you want examined?” Cyril asked.

“My own,” Beili replied.

Cyril’s violet eyes flickered with surprise.

“Memory Insight will damage your consciousness…” he warned.

“It doesn’t matter.”

Beili’s voice remained indifferent.

Her only concern was whether her current Mana level could be considered high or low.

If the Mana within the dagger did not count, then practically any Mage in the Imperial Palace should possess more Mana than she did.

“All right.”

Cyril agreed, then asked, “Can you tell me what you’re planning now?”

“Exactly what I intended from the beginning.”

Her voice was quiet and even.

“I will use the Sacred Artifact to put an end to all of this.”

But there was still one thing she needed to know.

Only after learning the truth could she know what she would feel as she brought everything to an end.

“…”

Cyril did not know why, but the sight of Bartholomew’s calm, resolute expression suddenly filled him with unease.

He raised his violet eyes and looked at her beneath the desert’s star-filled sky. Before he could stop himself, he asked, “And after it’s over, what about us…?”

…Us?

Beili stared at him in confusion.

Only after they had gazed at each other for a long moment did she gradually realize what he meant.
