Survival Guide After Accidentally Kissing a Demon - Chapter 363
*She Wanted to Give Him a Good Scolding*
During their walk, the silver-haired Demon in black robes noticed that Beili was distracted. He gave her palm a squeeze and said, “You seem a little anxious…”
Anxious?
Beili pulled her wandering thoughts back and asked, “Is it that obvious?”
Ashera lowered his golden eyes. “If this is about their plan for the Book of Summoning, there is no need to worry at all.”
“Why do you say that?” Beili asked.
“Because this is the four thousand eight hundred and seventy-first plan they have come up with. It will not succeed.”
“Even if it does succeed, it will fail again very quickly,” Ashera said with a sigh.
Clearly, our esteemed Demon Lord, ranked twenty-ninth, was already ahead of all the rest in grasping the profound truth that evil could never triumph over justice.
Unfortunately, those comforting words did nothing to ease Beili’s anxiety.
Every God had a world of their own.
Some especially energetic Gods could even oversee hundreds or thousands of worlds at once.
Beili, though a God herself, had created only one world.
And now she had come to Hell.
Her world was no longer protected—well, though she had never paid it much attention before this, either.
But after recovering her memories as the God of Dreams, she had also developed a sense of duty and purpose toward protecting the mortal world. Knowing of the Demons’ wicked plan now left her feeling that she had to act as soon as possible.
“If the Book of Summoning is created, they will probably choose worlds without a God’s protection to test it in first, won’t they?”
Beili wanted to do something to stop the plan.
The reality, however, was that not only could she do nothing, she also had to continue lying low in the castle until her divine power recovered.
“All right…”
A cold fingertip stroked the furrow between her brows.
“I don’t like it when your attention wanders to other matters while you’re with me.”
A trace of helplessness entered Ashera’s voice.
“I will take care of the Book of Summoning, even though souls from the mortal world are as tempting as dessert to a Demon.”
She had actually heard words from a Demon that warmed the very heart of a God.
Beili raised her sparkling red eyes to Ashera and asked incredulously, “Really?”
He nodded.
“Now,” he said, holding out both hands to her in invitation, “can you put your attention back on me?”
Beili’s lips curved into a smile. She reached out to embrace him and buried her face in his cold chest.
As for how he intended to deal with the Book of Summoning, Ashera did not share his plan.
When another invitation to the gathering of the lords arrived, he merely kissed her on the lips as he always did, then mounted the enormous black dragon and left the castle.
Beili watched his figure disappear into a black rift.
She was just wondering what she ought to do next when, the instant she turned around, a dull rumble suddenly rolled across the sky above the territory.
It sounded like thunder.
Beili looked up in confusion just in time to see a cluster of light fall like a meteor, trailing a slender tail behind it.
The evil spirits and dead souls in the territory suddenly grew restless, letting out shrill howls.
Six wings snapped open behind her.
Beili flew out of the castle and appeared at the place where the light had fallen in the blink of an eye.
Her gray wings held her suspended in the air. She did not land.
She had noticed that a dark figure now stood below.
It was an unfamiliar man.
The man had long black hair. Standing perfectly straight, he stroked his chin as he curiously observed the point of light floating in the air.
Beili watched him in silence and still made no move.
She could not decide whether she ought to flee or remain and pretend that nothing was out of the ordinary.
After several seconds of silent deliberation, Beili chose not to leave.
Once she appeared, the man turned toward her. There was no surprise on his pale face. Instead, he smiled.
Beili was certain that he was a Demon of the same caliber as Ashera.
It was not merely because of the familiar black robes he wore. A dense aura much like Ashera’s also radiated from him.
“Have you come to observe it too?” the man asked first.
“Incidentally, I did not originally come here for this. It simply fell from the sky, carrying a strange and marvelous aura. Or does this thing belong to you?”
He struck up a conversation with her in a tone as casual and natural as if they were discussing the weather.
“This is not your territory,” Beili said coolly, her gaze sweeping rapidly over the surroundings from beneath the cover of her gray feathers.
Whether it was because of the fallen light or the unfamiliar Demon before her, all the evil spirits and dead souls that had wandered the territory were gone. Not one remained.
“Why have you come here?” she asked.
The black-haired Demon raised a finger as though he wanted to touch the floating point of light. At the same time, he glanced uncertainly at Beili to gauge her reaction. When she remained unmoved, he hesitated before withdrawing his hand.
“I mean no harm.” He spread his hands. “Not yet.”
“I merely heard some interesting news, so I came to take a look.”
He smiled and lowered his voice. “I wanted to see why Ashera has grown so obsessed with ‘stillness’…”
Stillness?
“What do you mean?”
Beili’s brows drew together, and she had a bad feeling.
The black-haired Demon casually raised his hand. A chunk of ‘melted’ black rock broke free and floated into his palm.
The rock slowly changed shape like wax.
“The lava here, the castle, even the air have all been affected by the time-stopping magic he cast. It is like a spider wrapping its prey in a cocoon—except the one he has wrapped is you.”
At those words, Beili could not help thinking about the peculiar rate at which her divine power had been recovering.
“All seventy-two of us Demons have our own preferences, but for him to go this far…”
Before the black-haired Demon could finish, black mist suddenly erupted from beneath his feet and cut him off.
Beili saw him flash to one side as countless blades of dense black mist stabbed upward from the place where he had just stood.
After the mist struck empty air, it scattered like grains of sand, then coiled around his leg in the next instant.
At the same time, a rift tore open in front of the black-haired Demon. An ink-black hand reached from the black hole and clamped fiercely around his throat.
Golden eyes blazed with dark flames of fury.
Beili hovered in the air with a frown. Before her eyes, the black-haired Demon dissolved into black smoke, laughter and all.
“Did he say anything strange to you?”
The silver-haired, golden-eyed Demon turned toward her.
Beili’s face was cupped between his hands, and she met Ashera’s gaze.
His voice was low and gentle, threaded with a hint of beguilement. “Everything he told you was a lie…”
A flicker of panic crossed those beautiful golden slit pupils before they resumed their usual smiling expression.
As for the revelation that her divine power had been recovering so slowly because Ashera had tampered with time…
To be honest, Beili was not surprised at all.
As noted before, this Demon might not have much malice in him, but he had an awful lot of little schemes.
And every single one of those schemes was directed at her.
When Ashera had once again left the castle for a meeting in the depths of Hell, and the recovery of her divine power had once again accelerated, Beili had already begun to suspect as much.
She simply could not find any proof.
Now the proof had arrived, but the culprit apparently intended to play dumb.
Cold hands cradled her face. His pale, handsome features were very close, and lashes like black feathers lowered over his eyes.
Those molten-gold eyes were like moonlight shattered and poured into a lake at night, rippling with a plea she had never seen before.
At the same time, the skulls behind him spoke in turn: ‘It wasn’t me.’ ‘I didn’t do it.’ ‘Don’t listen to his nonsense.’
“…”
Beili stared at him in silence.
Deep inside, she desperately wanted to point at his nose and give him a vicious tongue-lashing.
But given this Demon’s rather poor temper, he might very well refuse to admit that he had done anything wrong, and he might also refuse to lift the time restriction he had placed on her.
So after two seconds of rapid thought, Beili decided it was absolutely necessary to run away from home for a while!
Of course, she did not actually manage to leave. The thought had only just appeared in her mind, her wings had only just begun to spread, and she had barely started to turn when Ashera reached out and pulled her into his arms.
In that instant, Beili noticed Ashera’s entire body shrink.
He transformed into a boy and, in a boy’s voice, stammered as he begged her not to leave.
