Chapter 92

The Blind Youth let out a short, ambiguous chuckle.

“If you… if you wish… I can also be… be called Ashera… Fitzgerald.”

He spoke.

Fitzgerald… was the surname of the Tilisha Royal Family.

Beili’s eyebrows had already been slightly furrowed in confusion, but hearing his next sentence, they knit together tightly.

She felt the youth wasn’t answering the question seriously.

Perhaps he was just teasing her.

Yes, that had to be it.

Because he was unconsciously drawing closer and closer to her, nearly burying his face into the crook of her neck.

Beili snapped her head back.

“If it’s incorrect and the Book of Truth rejects it, that’s not my problem.”

Her lips formed a flat line as she spoke, taking the youth’s hand and writing in the blank space of the page-

‘Ashera Elvis’

The moment she stopped writing, the paper and the quill were whisked away by an invisible hand.

The sound of scratching followed.

Beili waited quietly for a moment before the Morpho Butterflies brought back the paper and pen.

Then, she saw an additional line of text on the yellowed paper-

[Ashera Elvis has one opportunity to ask a question; the Book of Truth will resolve his confusion.]

“…!”

Ashera’s surname, Elvis, was real.

Looking at that neat, clear black font, this was the first thing Beili realized.

“What… what did it write?” the youth asked softly.

Taking a light breath, Beili suppressed her shock and explained, “You can ask a question now. You have one opportunity…”

“So… Ashera, what do you want to ask?”

Beili’s voice softened.

Something that even a Demon was curious and confused about.

She couldn’t help but be curious as well.

The doubt in her heart shifted from why Ashera’s surname was Elvis to what question Ashera would pose to the Book of Truth.

Then.

She saw the youth tilt his head, a faint, fleeting pink flush rising on his pale cheeks.

It looked like… bashfulness.

She could hardly believe the word ‘bashful’ could be applied to Ashera, but she indeed observed a sense of embarrassment from his lowered golden eyes and the curling corners of his smiling lips.

“…?”

Beili hesitated to speak.

“Ask for me, friend…”

“I, and he… are both just curious if… in the future… there will be… a fated… a fated lover.”

He licked his cold, thin lips, his weak voice light and trembling.

“Al-also curious… what kind of… cough… what kind of ending there will be with that lover.”

…

Whether there was a fated lover.

And.

The ending with that lover.

Beili’s slightly parted mouth slowly closed.

She looked at him with a heavy gaze.

In the original book, the female lead, Susanna, never loved him from beginning to end.

Her feelings for this strange youth started as sympathy, then that sympathy faded, eventually leaving only fear and loathing.

As for the ending.

He finally waited for her to take the initiative once, and as agreed, he went to the church to wait for her.

Only to be reduced to a pile of ash under the burning of the Exorcism Flame.

“Friend…?”

Having heard no response for a long time, the faint red on the youth’s face vanished, replaced by an uneasy tone.

Beili’s drifting thoughts were pulled back.

“Then let’s just ask the second question. By asking the second, we’ll know the answer to the first,” she said gently.

Every character had already deviated from the original storyline.

Perhaps Ashera’s path had changed as well.

The youth’s lips curled up again.

“Okay… I’ll… I’ll listen to you,” he said.

…

Beili held his hand, guiding the tip of the quill to write in the blank space of the page-

‘What kind of ending will Ashera Elvis have with his lover?’

The final stroke finished.

The paper and pen moved to the small round table.

The quill tilted, scratching words onto the paper.

Beili waited with a solemn expression. The youth snuggled close beside her with a smile on his lips, a faint look of anticipation surfacing on his face.

Then, the sound of writing stopped.

The Morpho Butterflies carried the yellowed page over from the round table. The parchment was slightly curled, and a row of unfamiliar characters had been written in spreading black ink.

Still, she didn’t recognize a single word.

Whether the person asking the question was her or a Demon, this Book of Truth, which refused to speak in human tongue, treated everyone equally, providing a string of baffling answers.

At least it hadn’t written out the ending from the original book.

That was for the best.

Beili had just breathed a sigh of relief when she suddenly noticed that the line of characters looked incredibly familiar.

Though not identical, nearly ninety percent of the characters matched the first half of the characters stored in her mind.

A pale, thin hand gently brushed over the fine ink marks on the parchment.

“So… so that’s how it is… It turns out I… I have no lover.”

The youth spoke.

“…!”

What?

Ashera… knew the meaning of these characters?

Beili’s red eyes froze. She turned to look at him and murmured, “You… you know the meaning of these characters?”

The youth gave an “mm,” nodding with a smile, as if he didn’t care about the answer at all and hadn’t taken it to heart.

Beili quietly squeezed his hand and asked softly:

“Ashera, can you tell me what these characters mean…”

“Of course…”

With a light, faint smile on his face, the youth’s fingertip moved slowly over the traces of black ink.

He said:

“You are… a graveyard… that even the moon… loathes.”
