Chapter 13: Putuo Temple 3

Xia Heng was frantic under the bed. Judging by how viciously these people struck, if Cang Chuli lost, they would never spare the lives of the three of them either.

Little Wude lay beside Xia Heng, both hands clamped tightly over his mouth, terrified of causing trouble for anyone.

The fighting grew more and more intense. Cang Chuli’s spear scraped across the stone wall with a sharp screech, sending sparks flying.

Xia Heng pulled the switchblade out of her sleeve again, flicked it open, and gripped it tight.

Silently calling up the Check-in System, she opened the Points Mall and skimmed through it as fast as she could.

A handgun? Couldn’t afford it! A longsword? Couldn’t afford it! She was way too short! An arm crossbow cost 35 points, but Xia Heng only had 30. She glanced at the system’s built-in digital clock. There were still three minutes until 00:00:00.

A few breaths later, only four people were left standing in the room.

Cang Chuli’s movements were gradually becoming strained.

“Ngh.”

Cang Chuli let out a muffled grunt as one of the men slashed his right shoulder. Wounded on top of his old injuries, his movements slowed for just a moment.

The remaining three men rushed him at once. One of them seized the opening and hacked toward the hand he used to hold his spear.

The spear flew from Cang Chuli’s hand again.

There it was!

Cang Chuli’s secret technique-the “Human-Pinning Technique”!

Lying under the bed, Xia Heng counted down while screaming internally.

After throwing the spear, Cang Chuli had no weapon left in his hands and could only fight the three men barehanded.

“This won’t do. I’m going to help him. You hide here properly. Don’t come out, and don’t make a sound. Got it?”

Xia Heng whispered to Wude.

Tears clung to his babyish face as he gave a tiny nod.

Maybe he was too scared, because his small hand was still clutching the corner of Xia Heng’s clothes tightly.

“Count to two hundred quietly in your heart. Big Sister will come back for you.”

With some difficulty, Xia Heng freed the hem of her clothing and quietly crawled out from under the bed.

The men were fighting fiercely, and no one noticed her. But in that short span of time, several more cuts had appeared on Cang Chuli’s body.

Xia Heng found her chance, grabbed a gold ingot from the chest in front of the bed, and hurled it at one of the bandits’ heads.

With her other hand, she threw the dagger toward Cang Chuli.

“Catch!”

The moment the dagger left her hand, Xia Heng suddenly remembered-the dagger was open!!!!

“Be careful!”

Xia Heng shouted while covering her eyes, afraid she would see the hot-blooded god of war spill his blood on the spot today.

Cang Chuli had just kicked away the man who had been stunned by the gold ingot when he saw a dagger shooting straight toward him, accompanied by a woman’s scream…

He caught the dagger by the hilt with effortless precision, then reversed his grip and sliced open the arm of another man in front of him. The last man immediately stepped in to take his place.

The injured man turned and spotted Xia Heng. He spat on the ground.

“Damn it, there’s still a little bitch here. I’ll fucking kill you first!”

With that, he strode toward Xia Heng.

The other man was locked in a stalemate with Cang Chuli. Xia Heng hurriedly ran to the table, circling around it as she faced off against the burly man.

“Ten, nine, eight…”

“Huh? What are you mumbling about? Stop fucking running! You’re making me dizzy!”

The burly man chased Xia Heng as he shouted.

“Six, five, four…”

Seeing the distance between them grow smaller and smaller, excitement flashed in the man’s eyes.

“Three, two, one.”

Xia Heng stopped.

The burly man reached out impatiently, just about to grab her shoulder.

The final image reflected in his eyes was the determined look in the woman’s gaze, her tightly pressed lips-

and the crossbow bolt lodged in his own chest.

Xia Heng had never felt so clear-headed. The instant the time hit 00:00:00, she opened the mall, exchanged for the arm crossbow, turned, and fired.

Fortunately, she had been paying attention to this flashy little gadget for a long time and had watched the usage demonstration early on, so she knew how to operate it.

Seeing that the burly man in front of her had not yet fallen, Xia Heng immediately fired another bolt. She kicked the man aside, carefully shifted her position, and aimed the arm crossbow at the only remaining attacker.
The wrist crossbow had come with eight bolts in total. Now there were six left, and the big man kept moving around, making him maddeningly hard to aim at.

Fortunately, Cang Chuli did not leave her struggling for long. Dragging his injured right shoulder, he still leaped high into the air.

With one thrust of his dagger, he finished off the burly man who had been brandishing his broadsword and baring his teeth like a mad beast.

Cang Chuli braced a hand against the wall and swayed, barely managing to straighten himself.

His assessing gaze fell on Xia Heng’s face, then on the wrist crossbow in her hand.

Xia Heng did not look closely at his expression. Seeing only that he was covered in wounds and seemed about to move, she hurried over to meet him.

“Are you all right?”

Before she could get an answer, Cang Chuli grabbed her hand, raised it, aimed, and fired in one smooth motion.

Xia Heng turned her head stiffly and saw the man she had just stunned with gold collapsing with a knife still clutched in his hand. A bolt-the one Cang Chuli had just shot-was buried in his chest.

“Hoo…”

Letting out a deep breath, Xia Heng’s mind went blank. She checked the room again and, only after confirming that no one inside could still stand, suddenly remembered Wude was still under the bed.

“Wude, you can stop counting. Come out.”

Xia Heng lay down by the edge of the bed. Little Wude was curled up underneath it.

After much effort, she finally dragged him out.

“Waaah, I hadn’t even counted to two hundred yet! Waaah…”

Xia Heng looked at Wude, who had once again grabbed her sleeve and was crying so hard he could barely breathe.

She rubbed a hand over his little bald head.

“Leave this place first. My people should have arrived,” Cang Chuli said.

He had given himself a simple bandage, and after watching the two of them remain on the floor for a good while without any sign of getting up, he walked to the door. While observing the situation outside, he spoke to remind them.

Little Baldie also realized this was not the time to talk. He was in a hurry to go up and see how his master and senior brothers were doing.

He quickly wiped away his tears and followed behind Xia Heng, moving forward with great caution.

Cang Chuli, who was walking ahead, sensed something was off. He looked back and saw one adult and one child trailing closely behind him, both tense and nervous.

When they saw him turn around, the two of them immediately stopped in their tracks, widened their eyes, and swept their gazes around. After finding nothing, they looked at him in confusion, as if silently asking what was wrong.

Cang Chuli pressed the tip of his tongue against his back teeth.

He had truly never seen a maid who made her master clear the way for her! Was this woman really a spy?

Xia Heng had no time to care what he thought. Her heart was about to leap out of her chest.

She had just killed two people and had not even recovered from it yet, but now she had to leave this place. She had no idea what the situation above was like.

And at the moment, she did not have a single point left in her shop.

Xia Heng was bitter inside, but Xia Heng could not say it. There was an even more miserable child following behind her.

At such a young age, he had seen so many dead bodies-and he was a monk, no less!

She only hoped tonight would not become a shadow over his childhood.

After much difficulty, they followed the hidden passage to the exit.

A stone slab blocked the way out.

All three of them heard voices coming from beyond it.

“General! General!”

“General-”

“They are my men,” Cang Chuli said calmly after listening carefully.

“Keep hold of him.”

Xia Heng nodded. With one hand, she raised the crossbow. With the other, she held Wude securely.

Cang Chuli drew in a breath and lifted the stone slab straight up. The three of them emerged from the hidden passage one after another.

They came out in a patch of grass beside the lake at Putuo Temple.

Artificial hills and landscaped gardens surrounded the area, and the stone slab here did not look out of place at all.

At last, someone spotted them. Once he recognized Cang Chuli, he shouted, “We found the general! The general is here!”

As he shouted, he hurried over.

“Reporting to the general: there were eighty-one bandits in total, all of whom have been captured. Three are still alive. Shall we interrogate them now?”

“Where are they being held?”

“In the temple woodshed. Men have been assigned to guard them.”

“Wait for now. Keep a close watch on them.”

“Yes, sir!”
