Chapter 12

“You don’t want me anymore. You don’t need me to hold you while you sleep. You’re in someone else’s arms-I can feel it, but I can’t touch you.”

“I can feel your soft head buried against my chest, but when I lower my head, I can’t kiss the top of your hair. It hurts so much. You’re clearly in my arms, but my arms are empty. My heart hurts so, so much…”

Footsteps came from behind me. I snapped back to my senses and turned to look, only for someone to grab my arm.

A powerful top-tier ability user was begging with almost humiliating desperation, his voice choked with emotion.

“Please look at me, Qin Tang. Will you look at me again?”

“I shouldn’t have thrown a fit with you. Last night hurt so much I thought I was going to die. You’ve never touched me like that before. You’d only ever place your hand on my stomach so carefully, so restrained. But last night, you kissed him. You touched him. You…”

He took a deep breath.

“My brother gathered every flower within thirty kilometers. Once my injury heals, I’ll go even farther. I’ll definitely find you flowers that are bigger and better.”

I lowered my head and realized that the arm he’d had bandaged was bleeding through again.

He’d probably pushed himself all night last night, and the wound had split open again.

“I didn’t dare go last night. The blood from my wound would have drawn zombies over, and then I wouldn’t have been able to come back with flowers to see you. I’m sorry. I don’t have any flowers.”

Lu Zhou reached out and held the ring toward me.

“Qin Tang, can you let me keep protecting you?”

The comments exploded instantly.

[Holy crap, I knew something was off with the male lead from the start, and you all insisted he hated the supporting girl. This is hatred? He’s head over heels in love, okay?]

[Captain Hindsight is back again. Right, right, sure. You were the one misleading people the most before.]

[It’s only two fingers, and he’s crying this prettily? Now I kind of want to try it too. Is the supporting girl still not softening up?]

[I think this works. Why not take the heroine who was eavesdropping too? She was enjoying the gossip way too much.]

The ring was just about to slide onto my finger when I suddenly jerked my hand back and came to my senses.

“N-No, I can’t. I’m already with your brother.”

Lu Zhou’s eyes dimmed at first, then lit right back up after hearing the second half of that.

“You mean you still like me a little? And it’d be fine as long as my brother agrees?”

I was speechless for a moment. He really did know how to do reading comprehension.

“Brother, you heard that, right?”

I turned my head, and sure enough, Lu Hanchen was standing behind us. I was so guilty I nearly blushed scarlet, but Lu Zhou was still holding my wrist.

Blood was still seeping from his shoulder as he stared darkly at his brother.

“On your own, there’s no way you can protect Qin Tang well enough.”

Lu Hanchen walked over from behind and wrapped an arm around me.

His familiar scent enveloped me. Looking at the hand resting at my waist, Lu Zhou’s eyes darkened.

“All you can do is make ice. If Qin Tang wants hot water in a hurry, you don’t have electricity, so you can’t boil any. She loves being clean, and taking a shower every day also needs electricity.”

The air went still.

Then someone let out a snort of laughter. When she realized we’d all turned to look at her, Luo Qing’er awkwardly covered her mouth.

“Go on.”

The comments lost it too.

[I thought he was about to go crazy, cry, make a scene, and act spoiled like he did with the supporting girl just now. But this plain, unadorned reason is what we get?]

[Honestly… you do have a point.]

[His brother is actually seriously thinking about it.]

I twitched my lips. I kind of wanted to laugh too. Lu Zhou’s gaze settled on my face again, his eyes soft.

Chapter 13

“Brother, surviving in the apocalypse is already hard enough. Honestly, whether you agree or not, and whether Qin Tang agrees or not, I’ll still stay by her side.”

“I’m sure now that I like her. In a harsh, terrible environment like this, I won’t leave her.”

Silence. The entire base was silent.

After a long while, Lu Hanchen turned and went back into the room.

“Heal your arm first, then we’ll talk. Don’t bleed out and die in front of our door.”

Lu Zhou’s eyes lit up. He moved pitifully close to me while I was still standing there in a daze.

“Qin Tang, can you use your ability to treat me? It really hurts.”

I pressed my lips together.

“If it hurts, why did you drag it out this long? Didn’t Luo Qing’er say she’d help you that day?”

Lu Zhou lowered his head and looked at his arm, his voice muffled and quiet.

“Because I only wanted you to touch me.”

The comments were still in an uproar.

[Does this mean big brother is backing down?]

[He didn’t say it outright, but judging from little brother acting like this, probably.]

[I love a sandwich filling situation. Absolutely delicious.]

[But what about the heroine?]

My eyelid twitched, and I followed that line of thought to look at Luo Qing’er.

She awkwardly set down the potato chips in her hand. Lu Zhou turned to look at her too, and she awkwardly set down the beer, the soda, and the peanuts in her hands as well.

A vein twitched faintly at Lu Zhou’s temple.

“I worked so hard to gather those supplies last night. Why are you sneaking around here stealing stuff like some rat?”

Luo Qing’er wasn’t in the right, but she still sounded plenty bold.

“I’m leaving today and you won’t even give me a little going-away gift?”

I looked at her in surprise.

“Leaving for where?”

In the apocalypse, a Healing-type user with no strength to even truss a chicken was basically a walking blood bag. Leaving alone was not a good idea.

Luo Qing’er’s lashes curved as she pulled half a chocolate bar from her pocket and stuffed it into her mouth, then pointed at the handsome man standing outside the door.

“That someone else who gave me chocolate came to pick me up. I’m not going to keep trailing behind you three like a third wheel.”

Her eyes darted around once. She grabbed the nearest peanuts and turned to run.

“Until we meet again, everyone!”

The End.
