The Alpha Thief Stole the Wrong Man - Chapter 2
When I woke up the next morning, my whole body felt ready to fall apart.
I’d pulled the alpha-disguised-as-an-omega trick plenty of times. I’d run rings around those stupid alphas without a single failure.
I used to think fate had been turning a blind eye because it loved me.
Turned out it had just been lining up a sniper shot.
I turned my head resentfully and glared at the culprit, still sleeping beside me.
The Shens really were a top-tier family. Even their bodyguards had to pass a looks test.
That face. That body. Better than a celebrity’s.
Right now, though, all I wanted was to kick him out of bed.
I quietly lifted the covers, ready to make my escape.
A hand caught my wrist.
“Awake?”
He opened his eyes, his voice still lazy with sleep.
“How do you feel?”
He had the nerve to ask.
An alpha wasn’t even supposed to be used that way. How the hell did he think I felt?
In my head, I cursed eighteen generations of his ancestors.
On my face, I kept a smile.
“Much better. Thanks for helping me through my heat.”
He made a noncommittal sound and drew me closer.
I went along with it, resting against his solid chest and playing the delicate little omega.
“Could you let me off?”
“Pretend you didn’t see anything yesterday.”
“Whatever the Shens pay you, I’ll double it.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“I’d have to know what you’re after first.”
He’d caught me red-handed anyway. No harm telling him.
“The Eternal Heart.”
The Shen family heirloom. A legendary diamond, the only one of its kind in the entire Federation.
Estimated market value: one billion.
He laughed softly, a teasing note entering his voice.
“Ambitious.”
“Do you know what makes that diamond special?”
I curled my lip.
“All I know is that diamonds symbolize idiots with too much money.”
“Once I sell it on the black market for eight hundred million, that’ll be all the meaning it needs.”
His smile deepened.
After a few seconds, he said, “I can take care of the guards for you.”
“What’s the catch?” I asked skeptically.
He said nothing, just looked at me.
Desire pooled thick and dark in his eyes.
I got it immediately.
He’d had a taste last night, lost his head, and wanted more. That was all.
“Help me get the diamond, and I’ll let you mark me permanently.”
“You can do whatever you want to me in bed.”
I was making wild promises while quietly working out my own little plan.
A permanent mark?
I was an alpha. I couldn’t be marked.
Once I had the diamond, I’d vanish. He wouldn’t find so much as my shadow.
The bodyguard watched me for two seconds, clearly pleased with the offer.
“Deal.”
“But the Shens paid a fortune for a top security consultant. Three combination doors, plus iris and fingerprint locks. You’re sure you can crack them?”
That was it?
I grinned, bold and utterly certain.
“Watch me.”
“There’s nothing in this world I can’t steal.”
