The Black Panther Insists on Raising a Rabbit - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I was originally a newly appointed Fate Scribe in the heavens.
The day the War God descended to the mortal realm to undergo his tribulation, he came to my office to report.
He was tall and imposing, radiating an intense, murderous aura.
When he wasn’t speaking, his face was dark and somber, which was quite intimidating.
As a new official, I was a bit nervous facing the first immortal I had to process.
In a moment of carelessness, I cast the wrong immortal spell and cast him into the Animal Realm.
I leaned over the edge, gasping in horror.
The War God had been kicked into the Animal Realm because of my botched spell!
If he ever regained his divine seat, wouldn’t he beat me to death?
Panicking, I rushed to Yuelao for help.
Though I call her Yuelao, she is actually the Moon Goddess.
She was also quite shocked. After thinking for a long time, she gave me a suggestion.
“Why don’t you go down and accompany him? Even though the War God was sent to the wrong place, he still has to undergo every single tribulation he was destined for.
“If you stay by his side and make things easier for him, he might remember your kindness when he returns and spare your life.”
I thought this made sense, so I followed the War God down.
To my surprise, I manifested as a weak, scrawny rabbit.
Fortunately, I still possessed a bit of divine power. After searching for a long time, I finally found the War God.
And let me tell you, the War God is truly something else!
Even in the Animal Realm, he managed to be born as a Black Panther at the top of the food chain.
Despite being a Black Panther, he still had to follow the miserable requirements of the tribulation.
Shortly after Mo Huai was born, he was abandoned by his mother because he was physically weak.
I picked him up and took meticulous care of him as he grew.
Originally, I thought that once Mo Huai grew up, he would go off to find a mate and build his own den, and my mission would be complete.
Who would have guessed that he would cling to me like this, refusing to leave my side at all?
I pondered for a long time before making a decision.
Since he wouldn’t leave, I would have to be the one to go.
Once Mo Huai was capable of hunting independently, he usually went out on his own.
I would simply enjoy the fruits of his labor, waiting at home for him to bring back wild fruit.
Previously, I had been worried he might be bullied, so I would always follow him, unable to set my mind at ease.
But following him along the way was a heart-stopping experience.
Mo Huai ignored small game and specifically sought out ferocious beasts to fight.
In a single day, he bit a giant python to death, killed two tigers and four wild bulls, and managed to emerge completely unscathed.
It seemed I had truly worried for nothing.
He possessed the soul of a War God; how could he be easily bullied?
If he had a single weakness, it was probably me-this useless rabbit.
Once, a female leopard had chased after Mo Huai to mate with him. When she saw him nuzzling and hugging me, a mere rabbit, her expression was beyond disdainful.
No, I couldn’t keep getting in the way of Mo Huai’s romantic prospects.
…
That morning, Mo Huai nuzzled me out of habit.
“Elder Sister, be good and wait for me to come back.”
I gave a vague mumble in response.
However, my ears were standing tall, listening intently to his movements.
Once I sensed that Mo Huai had headed to another mountain, I quickly grabbed two carrots and fled.
To prevent him from finding me, I deliberately left my scent on different paths to confuse his sense of smell.
After three whole days of traveling, I finally settled down in a cave.
I slowly channeled the divine power within my body, hoping to contact the Moon Goddess so she could bring me back.
Unfortunately, I had spent a lot of energy raising Mo Huai, and I needed some time to recover.
Luckily, the tree hollow I lived in was very well-hidden; no wild beasts came to disturb me.
Every night, I would climb to the top of the tree canopy. While munching on carrots, I absorbed the essence of the moonlight, striving for a speedy recovery.
One day, while I was sleeping soundly in the hollow, I was suddenly awakened by a series of crashing sounds.
Animals were running for their lives in the same direction as if they were terrified.
Strangely, they were all large, fierce beasts, yet they looked as panicked as herbivores being chased by a predator.
Sensing something was wrong, I found a small deer and asked what was happening.
He shook his head. “Don’t even ask. There’s a Black Panther acting like he’s gone mad. For the past two days, he’s been capturing predators everywhere, asking them if they’ve seen a white rabbit.
“Can you believe how ridiculous that is? There are so many rabbits; why doesn’t he just catch another one to eat?
“But that Black Panther beat them black and blue, demanding they reveal its whereabouts… It’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard.”
He looked a bit gleeful at their misfortune and took a couple more looks at me.
“Eh? You seem to be a white rabbit too.”
“Uh… yeah.”
I answered mechanically, my soul already departing from my body.
Suddenly, the massive tree I was in shook violently.
I gripped the trunk and looked down; the small deer had already vanished without a trace.
My heart raced as my gaze shifted to the side.
I locked eyes with a pair of cold, furious, and ruthless golden pupils.
