The system fell silent for two seconds before answering darkly.

【You made him wear black mesh and dance like a male model. You ground up his dragon scales and used the powder as a face mask.】

【Every time you lost an argument with Jiang Ran, you came home and tormented him. You made him turn into a dragon in the middle of the night and fly you around the sky, and you wouldn’t let him stop until you threw up.】

【And you also—】

The more I heard, the guiltier I felt.

My mouth twitched, and I cut it off in a small voice.

【…But he never fought back.】

The system sneered.

【Never fought back? That’s because he took all his anger out on everyone else!】

【Want to guess how horribly the people who crossed him died this past year?】

【The only reason you’re still standing here safe and sound is that the real protagonist shou hasn’t appeared yet. Once he does, the male lead will send you to your death without so much as blinking.】

Cold sweat broke out across my back. My limbs turned icy.

When Fu Yuan saw that I had gone quiet, he slowly rose.

His tall figure loomed over me, intensely imposing.

After two seconds of silence, his Adam’s apple moved almost imperceptibly.

“If you really want it, I can go—”

“No need!” I hurriedly cut him off, speaking as fast as if my life depended on it.

“I didn’t think it through. You don’t have to get the tattoo.”

Fu Yuan visibly froze.

His sharp gaze landed on my face. His eyes narrowed, and his tone abruptly turned dangerous.

“Shen Jiao, what are you plotting now?”

I shook my head like a rattle drum.

“Nothing!”

“I’ve seen the light. I’ll never torment you again.”

Far from relaxing, his expression grew even darker.

He stepped forward, seized my wrist, and looked down at me from his full height.

“If you’re not going to torment me, who do you plan to torment?”

“Is there some other beast who knows how to serve you better than I do?”

Pain made me suck in a breath.

Out of habit, I slapped Fu Yuan across the face just as I always had.

The crack rang especially loud in the silent room.

The instant my palm began to sting, I realized what I had done.

My legs nearly gave out beneath me.

Panicking, I stammered out an excuse.

“Y-you hurt me first. You can’t retaliate…”

Then I changed the subject at lightning speed.

“Right, didn’t you say you had something to do? You should hurry and get to work.”

After being slapped, much of the harshness on Fu Yuan’s face actually vanished.

The corner of his mouth even curved upward, though the look in his eyes was unreadable.

“A fair amount of work has piled up over the last few days. I may be home late tonight. Get some rest on your own.”

In the past, those words would have sent me into a monumental tantrum.

I would have demanded to know who else was at the dragon palace. Was his work more important than sleeping beside me?

And there was no way he could have coaxed me out of it without a hundred luminous pearls.

But now I obediently agreed.

I even considerately walked him to the door and gently shut it behind him.

I had been born a useless dragon with an unusual constitution.

My entire body was snow-white, and I could not even fly.

My parents were always so busy that I hardly ever saw them. I grew up surrounded by servants, dressed in silk and fed on delicacies.

They never spent time with me.

Only when I made a bigger fuss and caused worse trouble would they come home to spare me a glance.

Over time, I developed an arrogant, overbearing temper.

Then, on the day of my coming-of-age ceremony, it all came to an abrupt end.

My mother led a boy into the banquet and grandly announced that I was an impostor.

The entire hall erupted.

The boy transformed into his true form in front of everyone.

Pitch-black from head to tail, he spread his wings and soared into the air.

He looked exactly like my parents.

And in an instant, I—the disabled, useless dragon who could not even ride the clouds—became a joke.

The motley crowd that had once swarmed around me scattered like frightened birds and beasts.

Some deliberately made cutting remarks.

“No wonder he has such a rotten personality and such a petty heart. Turns out he’s a white dragon, the lowest kind in the entire dragon clan.”

“He’s so useless. Maybe his mother had him with some other beast.”

Furious, I rolled up my sleeves and charged into a fight.

I won in the end and returned home covered in injuries, only to find my luggage dumped outside the front gate.

My mother had a servant deliver a message.

“For the sake of the blood ties I thought we shared, I put up with a useless thing like you for all these years.”

“Now that we know there’s no relation between us, don’t come back.”
