The Day I Discovered My Shy Desk Mate Was a Mafia Boss - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I took Duan Jiayu to play a murder mystery role-playing game.
I specifically picked a script built around arguments.
I heard it was kind of trash.
But apparently, the fighting was very satisfying.
Perfect for training antisocial people.
Everyone was cross-cast.
I played the groom. Duan Jiayu played the bride.
Four of my girls played both sets of parents.
Before we started, we swore an oath: “The game comes first, friendship comes second. Anyone whose relationships can be affected by this script is nothing but a fake sister!”
In the end, just the betrothal gift segment alone had everyone arguing for two whole hours.
The mother-in-law said, “You want to marry our Jiayu? The betrothal gift has to be at least two hundred thousand!”
The father-in-law said, “Our Ruan family can offer fifty thousand at most.”
The bride’s father exploded. “Fifty thousand? Are you trying to get rid of beggars?”
The evil mother-in-law said, “Then let’s both take a step back and meet in the middle. Twenty thousand!”
The future in-laws started beating each other up.
One of my girls was so mad she shoved Duan Jiayu. “You useless lovestruck fool! I don’t approve of this marriage!”
Duan Jiayu’s brows drew together.
Killing intent surged.
My heart sank. Oh no! Did we go too far? Is he mad?
In the end, Duan Jiayu stood up.
Walked over to me.
Then, at his height of six-foot-three, he crouched down.
Like a timid little wife, he wrapped his arms around mine.
And stiffly recited his lines: “Mom, Dad, I want to marry her. I want to marry Ruan Shiran!”
I lowered my head.
My eyes met Duan Jiayu’s.
In that instant, an image flashed through my mind.
Him wearing an apron, doing housework.
Looking like the perfect virtuous househusband.
Saying gently, “Honey, you must be tired after working all day. Come eat.”
So in a moment of confusion, I blurted out, “Two hundred thousand it is. I’m marrying him!”
Then the groom’s parents gave me a mixed-gender beatdown.
By the time the game ended,
all my girls had fallen out with each other.
Six people took six separate cabs home.
Too broke to call a cab, I said awkwardly to Duan Jiayu, “Can I look at your most private place? Just a look, I won’t go in… Holy shit, why is your WeChat Wallet empty?”
Duan Jiayu: “…”
Maybe he was embarrassed because he was too poor.
His face turned red again.
Chapter 6
Since we had no money left for fun, it was time to rein it in and study.
Whenever I got tired of studying, I would chat with Duan Jiayu.
The puppy my dad picked up was always circling around my legs.
Staring pitifully at the Guangming Milk Brick in my hand.
I quickly took two big bites, then handed the rest to it.
“Good baby. Lick it properly.
“Hm? Don’t spit it out.
“Swallow it all…”
Then I continued chatting with Duan Jiayu.
But when I lowered my head,
sticky liquid was dripping all over the floor.
“How many times have I taught you?
“Why are you still getting drool everywhere?
“Lick it clean right now!
“You disobedient little thing…”
After I finished scolding the dog, Duan Jiayu’s voice sounded low and dark on the other end. “Who are you with right now?”
I said, “My dog.”
Then I snapped a photo of Fugui and sent it to him. “A Chinese native dog! Isn’t it cute?”
For some reason, his tone relaxed a lot. “So it was a dog.”
Me: ??
What else would it be?
