The Demon Lord Softens Again - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
When I opened my eyes, I discovered I’d transmigrated.
Into the cultivation world.
The System assigned me a mission: [Host, your task is to win over the Immortal Lord.]
So I took a look.
Well, well. As expected of an Immortal Lord.
Delicate features, dignified bearing.
Handsome as hell.
But for some reason, I never dared let my thoughts wander inappropriately around him.
Somehow, I had this strange feeling that someone would get jealous if I did.
Weird. Really weird.
In order to win over the Immortal Lord, I did my homework.
All his life, he’d been revered by tens of thousands in the immortal realm and had never suffered a loss.
And yet, because he once recklessly provoked the Demon Lord, the Demon Lord rewarded him with one vicious slap.
He hit the ground face-first.
In front of all his disciples, he lost every last shred of dignity.
From that day on, a heart demon took root in him, and his cultivation stopped progressing.
Right now, the fastest way to win over the Immortal Lord was to help him get rid of that heart demon.
Help him get his pride back from the Demon Lord.
The Demon Lord was famously not someone to mess with, so of course I didn’t dare make a move against him.
But he had one weakness.
His two-year-old son.
Rumor had it the child was born from a fling between him and some wild demon from the Demon Realm.
After giving birth, that wild demon ran off and was never heard from again.
Leaving the Demon Lord to raise the child alone as a single dad.
Everyone thought the Demon Lord would take his anger out on the child.
But the truth was the exact opposite.
He doted on his son to an outrageous degree, granting him practically anything he wanted.
He spoiled him rotten, afraid he’d melt if held in the palm or shatter if kept in the mouth.
If I stole his son and brought him to the Immortal Lord, so the Immortal Lord could order the boy around like a little dog,
wouldn’t the Immortal Lord get his pride back?
Wouldn’t that solve his heart demon?
I really am a genius.
The moment I thought of it, I acted.
Chapter 6
That very night, I rushed to the Demon Realm.
A powerful barrier had been set up outside the Demon Palace.
Before I could touch it, a moth fluttered right into it.
It was instantly burned black.
I wiped the sweat from my forehead,
grateful that I hadn’t charged in recklessly.
I was just about to try another way,
when my left foot caught my right and I fell.
My whole body pitched straight toward the barrier.
But the scorching pain I expected never came.
The barrier was like a giant transparent net.
Not only did it not burn me, it caught me.
Soft and springy, too.
It seemed to hesitate for a long moment.
And then, incredibly, it let me in!
Chapter 7
The strange thing was, the Demon Palace felt vaguely familiar.
I followed my instincts
and made my way to the back garden of the Demon Palace.
Flowers bloomed in riotous clusters there, and the grass and trees were lush and thriving.
On the thick peach tree in the middle of the garden, a short-legged toddler was trembling.
Big tears hung on his face as he stared helplessly at the ground.
In a tiny baby voice, he muttered softly, “Help… help…”
It seemed he’d climbed up the tree and couldn’t get back down.
I walked over and looked up at him.
He noticed me then too, and met my gaze with the most aggrieved little expression.
Holy crap, no way.
Little Bean had a pair of bright, watery eyes.
And he actually looked about thirty percent like me when I was little.
Tiny droplets still clung to his long eyelashes, making him look both adorable and pitiful.
How could I bear to leave him crying up in that tree?
I used a spell to rescue him,
letting him float down into my arms.
At first, he didn’t seem to understand what had happened and just stared at me blankly.
Then he realized he’d been saved.
His chubby little hands grabbed my collar,
and suddenly he buried his face in my shoulder and burst into loud sobs.
Afraid he’d attract people from the Demon Palace, I quickly patted his back to soothe him.
Rocking left, swaying right.
The little one gradually calmed down.
And then he actually fell asleep in my arms?!
