Summary
The empress loved her white fox like a child. When the emperor’s favored consort kills it for a supposed cure, grief claims the empress too. But fox blood cannot bring the dead back to life. It can only let a fox take possession of human skin. Now wearing the body of the consort’s beloved little daughter, the fox wants revenge. Small hands are too weak to kill, and palace smiles conceal cruelties it has yet to understand. An old ally teaches it that death can be a mercy. To avenge the woman who protected it, the fox must learn what humans fear losing most.
