The Evil Deity's Second Career - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I was completely dazed by the sudden turn of events. Before I could react, a large group of people swarmed in, surrounding a man who walked with an imposing air. He reached the woman in a single stride and pulled her into his arms.
“Beloved Consort! Beloved Consort!”
Seeing that she remained unconscious, he barked at the people beside him.
“You useless servants! Why haven’t you summoned the Imperial Physician?”
Before long, a white-bearded old man carrying a square medical chest rushed in, panting for breath. Before he could even steady himself, the man kicked him into the inner chamber.
“Her Highness’s pulse is erratic; it seems she has suffered a great shock.”
The man’s expression darkened. He summoned all the palace servants in the hall to stand before him.
“Who was attending her today?”
“Reporting to the Emperor… it was… it was this servant.”
Oh? So he’s the Emperor? The one Shi Jia mentioned, who prayed for life after life together?
He looks…
He’s the Emperor!
I craned my neck to watch the drama unfold.
A pale, beardless man knelt on the floor, trembling uncontrollably.
“Who disturbed Her Highness?”
“This servant… this servant does not know…”
As soon as the words left his mouth, he was kicked to the ground. Ignoring the pain, he scrambled back into a kneeling position and began kowtowing frantically. “Emperor, have mercy! Emperor, have mercy!”
“Kill him.”
The man addressed as Emperor spoke with cold indifference. My eyes lit up.
Ooh, a job!
I haven’t had a customer in hundreds of years; I could feel the blood racing through my veins.
Just as I was rubbing my hands together in anticipation, the woman on the bed woke up.
“Emperor, I am fine. Please do not kill an innocent man on my account.”
The Emperor held the newly awakened woman tenderly, his voice so soft it practically dripped with honey. “I shall do as my Beloved Consort wishes.”
Great. There goes my job.
I watched the two of them acting all lovey-dovey. The Emperor leaned down, intending to steal a kiss, but the woman giggled and dodged him.
“Emperor, I am unwell today. I fear I cannot serve you.”
“It matters not. I am happy just being by your side.”
The woman clutched the silk bedding, a look of worry crossing her face. “I know you cherish me, Emperor. It is just that the Empress Dowager has always disliked us being too close. If she finds out, she will scold me again. Last time, she made me copy the Admonitions for Women until my hand was sore.”
The Emperor could only urge her to rest well before he took his leave.
She was the only one left in the vast hall.
Well, her and me.
“Have you seen enough?”
The woman draped a sky-blue robe over her shoulders and climbed down from the bed, walking straight toward me.
What?
She can see me?!
While I was still panicking, she accepted my presence with total composure. She sat down, poured herself a cup of tea, and then poured one for me as well.
“You… you can see me?”
“Yes, I can. It seems I am the only one.”
The woman held the tea out to me. I took it instinctively.
“Who are you?”
“That statue you brought back… that is my true form…”
Upon hearing this, the woman lost her composure and spat out a mouthful of tea. I didn’t have time to dodge, and the tea splashed all over my face.
Terrified, her legs gave way and she knelt before me.
“Divine Lord, I did not mean it! Please do not punish me!”
I closed my eyes and muttered to myself.
Forget it, forget it. Just think of the golden body she’s having made for you.
