Inside the secret realm—

Shen Yan happened to pass by and witnessed the entire process of Qi Cang eliminating the other contestants.

Qi Cang looked about seventeen. Tall and straight, he wore pale pink brocade robes. Each of his features was attractive on its own, yet together they formed an unusually ordinary face.

Qi Cang noticed her as well.

Their eyes met.

He clearly recognized Shen Yan. After all, she had caused an enormous sensation during the first three tests. When she summoned her longsword, his expression tightened slightly.

Qi Cang held his right hand behind his back, his fingers seemingly rubbing something. A faint fragrance gradually spread from them. He smiled at Shen Yan. “You saw me use poison just now, didn’t you? Aren’t you afraid?”

In this world, poison masters inspired the greatest dread.

Ordinary people fled the moment they saw one, yet Shen Yan had not. Either she was confident she could handle him, or she was simply ignorant.

Shen Yan did not answer. The corner of her eye caught a figure, putting her heart at ease. She swung her sword through the air toward Qi Cang.

Boom—

A blade of wind raced at him like a gale, blowing the faint fragrance back in his direction.

Qi Cang hurriedly gathered power in his palm to block the strike.

The moment he stopped it, he focused on Shen Yan—only to see her swiftly retreating back.

Why?

Before Qi Cang could make sense of it, an overwhelming pressure descended upon his head. It forced him to one knee with a boom.

He looked up, his pupils contracting.

Was that… an instructor?!

“I can’t believe she got away.” The instructor watched Shen Yan disappear with some regret. Then he lowered his gaze to Qi Cang and smiled. “Catching you isn’t bad either.”

Qi Cang was dumbfounded.

“Instructor, why are you here? And what do you mean by ‘catching me’?”

The instructor smiled mysteriously. “If you can escape my control, you may continue the contest.”

Qi Cang was still uncertain, but before he could react, the instructor gathered spiritual power and attacked.

With no time to think, Qi Cang swiftly dodged.

…

Shen Yan had already left the forest. In truth, she had sensed the instructor watching her long ago. She needed to find someone to divert his attention, then use the opportunity to escape.

Getting entangled with an instructor would waste too much time.

When she saw that her rank had fallen out of the top fifty, her brows drew together.

As Shen Yan hurried onward, the sounds of fighting reached her ears.

Her gaze sharpened, and she tightened her grip on her longsword.

Soon, she spotted the contestants ahead. There were sixteen of them, all embroiled in a chaotic melee.

Shen Yan immediately joined the fight.

Another figure entered at the same time. It was Xiao Zechuan, Crown Prince of Nanshang Kingdom.

He wore pale violet brocade robes that emphasized his powerful, lean waist and broad shoulders. His features had an exotic beauty: a high-bridged nose, vivid red, thin lips that rarely smiled, and alluring fox eyes that contrasted with his aloof, restrained air. His gaze was profound and cold.

Lowering his body slightly, he gripped a crescent saber nearly two meters long, its far end curved into a hook.

When he swung it, he resembled the god of death wielding a scythe.

He was incredibly fast!

“Aagh!” A scream rang out.

After swiftly eliminating three people, Shen Yan noticed Xiao Zechuan joining the fight. Her expression tightened slightly.

Was Xiao Zechuan a saber cultivator?

He glanced toward her.

That single look seemed to freeze the air in an instant, plunging anyone it touched into an icy abyss.

Shen Yan had no doubt that Xiao Zechuan would be a troublesome opponent.

She did not leave. Instead, she continued attacking the other contestants.

An unspoken struggle arose between the two of them.

In the end, they alone remained.

All sixteen contestants had been eliminated, with Shen Yan and Xiao Zechuan each adding eight to their count.

They came to a stop and looked at one another.

The next instant, saber and sword collided!

Clang—

Xiao Zechuan was at the second stage of the Earth-rank realm. His saber landed like a crushing blow, forcing Shen Yan back a full step.

Neither of them was talkative. Only the sounds of battle rang out.

Against Xiao Zechuan, Shen Yan was steadily driven back.

The gap between their cultivation levels was too great.

Xiao Zechuan lowered his fox eyes, an indescribably gloomy chill gathering in them. Tightening his grip on the crescent saber, he swept it sideways at Shen Yan!

Clang—

Shen Yan blocked with the Spirit Phoenix Divine Sword but was forced backward. Both arms went numb from the impact, and she nearly lost her grip.

Xiao Zechuan thrust his saber at her abdomen from a tricky angle. With a tearing sound, its tip pierced her flesh, and her face paled slightly.

Clang!

Shen Yan swiftly used a sword technique to deflect the saber.

She glanced down. Xiao Zechuan’s blade had nearly destroyed her token.

“Wuying!” No longer hesitating, she summoned the flood dragon.

The instant the black flood dragon appeared, it attacked Xiao Zechuan!

Sensing the immense power radiating from it, Xiao Zechuan grew wary. He immediately raised the crescent saber to block.

Boom!

The blow drove him back some distance.

Shen Yan swiftly formed a sword array. The Spirit Phoenix Divine Sword hovered in the air, then transformed into countless shadows in an instant. Real and false blurred together, confusing the eye.

“Shadow Sword Form—”

“Sever!”

Countless shadows of the Spirit Phoenix Divine Sword burst toward Xiao Zechuan with incredible speed, tearing through the air.

Startled, he immediately used his crescent saber to activate an array. Fierce saber winds formed a barrier that forcibly withstood Shen Yan’s attack!

Clang—

Shen Yan controlled the Spirit Phoenix Divine Sword with spiritual power and pressed the assault. Xiao Zechuan refused to yield.

The two sides remained locked in a stalemate.

But Shen Yan still had a summoned otherworldly beast…

The flood dragon!

“Wuying,” Shen Yan called, raising her head.

The black flood dragon rolled its eyes. It was a mighty primordial beast, yet this human had summoned it twice in a single day and expected it to attack people for her. It was deeply displeased.

Shen Yan’s voice turned icy. “Lucky!”

“Who are you calling Lucky? Fine, this sovereign will fight—but don’t call this sovereign Lucky!” Wuying felt profoundly insulted. Unable to vent its anger on Shen Yan, it could only direct its fury at Xiao Zechuan!

The flood dragon roared.

Roar—

Immense bestial power poured forth and bore down on Xiao Zechuan!

Under the overwhelming pressure, he was hurled into the trunk of a nearby tree. His chest tightened from the impact.
