Chapter 6

All of a sudden, my delicate little white-flower concubine-born sister poked me. Her voice was as faint as a mosquito’s buzz. “Second Sister, my stomach hurts.”

I gave her a puzzled look. Why was she telling me her stomach hurt? It wasn’t as if I were an imperial physician.

Her little face flushed crimson. “Second Sister, I need to use the privy.”

Oh. So I was blocking her way.

I shifted aside and let her pass.

Elder Sister looked at her with a smile in her eyes. “Little Sister, don’t forget that when we’re out in public, we represent the General’s Mansion. You mustn’t cause trouble outside.”

Unlike the smile she wore when facing me, this smile of Elder Sister’s reminded me of a cold, venomous snake.

My concubine-born sister’s tears immediately fell. She lowered her head and answered in a meek, timid voice.

I thought she looked very pretty when she cried, so I wanted her to cry a little more.

“Elder Sister is joking. How could she possibly bear the honor of representing the General’s Mansion?”

My concubine-born sister cried even more pitifully.

Chapter 7

As soon as my concubine-born sister left, Elder Sister said she would take me to watch a good show.

We sneakily followed behind her.

After leaving the main hall, my concubine-born sister wound this way and that until she reached the back of a rockery, then plunged straight into a pale-yellow embrace.

Good heavens. Wasn’t that the Crown Prince?!

“Brother Crown Prince…” my concubine-born sister sobbed.

I looked at Elder Sister’s face, then thought back to my concubine-born sister’s face and whispered, “Impossible! Her?”

There was no way! How could someone used to delicacies from land and sea possibly stomach plain congee and side dishes?

Elder Sister’s face could be called the most stunning in the capital, and I was the only one who could barely rival her. What was my concubine-born sister supposed to be?

And what in the world was “Brother Crown Prince”?

My mother was the Emperor’s own younger sister! The Crown Prince was my cousin fair and square! Even I had only called him “Brother Crown Prince” a handful of times.

“Ah Zhu, look carefully. In this world, people may know a face, but never a heart.” Elder Sister smiled and smiled, and then two streams of tears rolled down her cheeks.

As expected of my Elder Sister. Even when she cried, she was beautiful.

Since we were already there, of course we had to watch the show to the end. My concubine-born sister cried in a pitiful torrent, her sobs soft and plaintive, and somehow she did not even sniffle once.

“Brother Crown Prince, Xia’er missed you so much.”

“My dear Xia’er, were you bullied in the mansion again?” the Crown Prince coaxed.

“It’s not like that! Eldest Sister treats me very well. She even brought me to the palace banquet,” my concubine-born sister said.

The Crown Prince grew even angrier. “Xia’er! You’re simply too kind. That Jiang Fusang has the heart of a viper. She brought you to the palace banquet, yet dressed you in a maidservant’s clothes!”

Only then did I notice that Jiang Xia was actually wearing a sky-blue maidservant’s outfit.

However, the chest and waist had both been altered.

What sort of maidservant’s outfit was that supposed to be?

Very soon, indecent sounds came from behind the rockery. Elder Sister and I awkwardly took a step back and prepared to leave.

When we returned to the banquet, we discovered that the palace banquet had already ended, and the officials were exchanging pleasantries and farewells.

Unexpectedly, a scream suddenly rang out. A palace attendant shouted, “Fire!”

“The Crown Prince! The Crown Prince is still in the Imperial Garden!” Several panicked cries followed.

Everyone began moving toward the Imperial Garden.

Elder Sister stood frozen for a long while, as if recalling something. She murmured, “How is this possible… This clearly didn’t happen in my last life…”

But she quickly composed herself. To her, having the affair between the Crown Prince and Jiang Xia exposed was a good thing as well.

The current Emperor had no princesses, so I immediately shouldered the heavy responsibility and said to the titled ladies, “Ladies, Brother Crown Prince is still trapped in the sea of flames! What should we do?!”

The Minister’s wife immediately replied, “At a life-and-death moment like this, how could we abandon the Crown Prince!”

The Minister’s daughter was currently discussing marriage prospects. Presumably, she had her eye on the position of crown princess too.

“Everyone, quickly gather your maids and serving women to put out the fire!” the crowd cried, all talking at once.

Families with daughters truly never rested for a moment.

A large crowd fetched water and rushed toward the Imperial Garden. The fire was not large, but there were too many flowers and trees in the Imperial Garden, and thick smoke filled the entire place.

The Crown Prince and Jiang Xia were trapped in the fire, already scared out of their wits. Without the slightest regard for appearances, they screamed and shouted.
