The Gentle Enigma and His Hot-Tempered Omega - Chapter 1
I’m an enigma.
But my spirit form is a lop-eared rabbit, so I’m nowhere near as popular as those lion and leopard alphas.
Temperament-wise, I’m as soft as cotton, too.
Dad thought this would never do. Growing up, I was signed up for every kind of training imaginable: gliding, shooting, rock climbing, boxing… Anything that might make me “more of an enigma,” he made me try.
In the end, it didn’t make me much more imposing.
It did make me a whole lot stronger.
Dad looked at my guileless face as if I were giving him a headache. “Son, at this rate, you’ll never find an omega! They all like someone strong!”
At the time, I didn’t care. “Who says an enigma has to find an omega? What if I like a beta or an alpha?”
I never expected to be proven wrong so quickly.
The first time I saw Jiang Bai, an alpha was confessing his feelings to him.
The omega was as delicately made as a ball-jointed doll. He covered his nose in disgust. “You reek of sweat. It’s disgusting. Your love letter’s full of typos, too. How do you have the nerve to say you like me?”
Then, right in front of the alpha, he threw the letter into a trash can.
I stood there, stunned.
I only hurriedly looked away when Jiang Bai walked toward me.
He was thoroughly impatient. “What are you looking at? Never seen someone confess before?”
He was much shorter than me, but his force of personality more than made up for it.
I took two steps back. “Sorry. I wasn’t doing it on purpose.”
Jiang Bai gave an unconvinced snort and walked around me. At the vending machine behind me, he bought a bottle of water.
When he bent down, a small section of dazzlingly white skin flashed before my eyes.
I froze for a moment, then hurried away.
It was easy to find out about Jiang Bai.
He was a sophomore in the music department, the only son of the Jiang family, and spoiled to the bone.
Quite a few alphas at school were pursuing him fiercely. Some even placed private bets on who could win him first.
As they put it, he had a terrible temper, but his face was simply beautiful. It made people want to conquer him.
“You hardly ever ask about anyone. Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for him?” My childhood friend Xie Yunzhou adjusted his archery stance, then added, “But I should warn you. He’s gorgeous, sure, but he isn’t right for you. You couldn’t handle him.”
Why couldn’t I?
I argued silently. His waist was so slender, and he was much shorter than me. He probably wasn’t very strong, either.
Not only could I handle him, I could hold him down, pick him up with one arm, even…
At the thought of that scene, my face flushed uncontrollably.
Xie Yunzhou had no idea what was going through my mind. He aimed at the bull’s-eye. With a sharp whoosh that split the air, the arrow lodged firmly in the center.
Very pleased, he handed me the bow. “Your turn. Loser buys—”
He stopped halfway through the sentence, his voice puzzled. “Why did your face suddenly turn red?”
I turned away and raised the bow. “They’ve set the thermostat a bit too warm in here.”
After that, I often went to school on purpose to “run into” Jiang Bai.
His outfits were never the same twice, and he had a private driver whenever he went out. I frequently saw people confess to him.
Unsurprisingly, he rejected every one of them.
I’d thought someone born with everything going for him would always shine. Then the Jiang family found their real son somewhere.
When Xie Yunzhou told me, he joked, “You never had a chance before, but now you might as well try. You’re an enigma, but you’re much more honest than those alphas. That counts as an advantage.”
I frowned. “That would be taking advantage of him.”
“If you don’t, someone else will.” He shrugged. “And from what I hear, that old fossil in the Jiang family is very traditional. There can only be one heir.”
Honestly, I didn’t believe the Jiangs would abandon Jiang Bai just like that.
Even without that status, Jiang Bai still shone like a star in the sky. His musical talent was extraordinary. He was so young, yet he had already won more awards at home and abroad than he could carry. Even my mother, who worked in music, had privately praised his talent and how hard he worked.
But it turned out I had underestimated how cold-blooded they were.
Jiang Bai stopped coming to school for an entire month.
When he appeared on campus again, he was engaged to a rich kid named Chu Huai.
