Chapter 3

Ever since that night, Wenzhou had been avoiding me even more.

I used every trick in the book to entice him, but he would only avert his gaze and considerately drape a coat over my shoulders.

“It’s easy to catch a cold in early spring. Don’t get chilled.”

When we finally reached our once-a-week ‘routine,’ he actually begged me to turn off the lights.

I was so annoyed that I simply called it off.

“Boring!”

“This isn’t fun at all!”

Using my parents’ overseas business as an excuse, I went out to play for a week with my best friend, Su Qingge.

The day I returned, Wenzhou was unusually passionate, but I rejected him.

“No kissing. I don’t want to.”

The hands he had wrapped around me slowly dropped. He looked dejected and forced a smile. “Mm, alright.”

He turned around to cook.

The sound of a boiling kettle drifted from the kitchen.

Without thinking much of it, I focused on pouring the substance I had prepared into his water, stirring it until it dissolved.

During dinner, the man’s eyes were slightly rimmed with red.

However, because I was preoccupied with my own scheme, I didn’t notice. I was even dismissive when answering him.

He silently picked at the rice in his bowl.

It was almost crushed to a pulp.

This meal felt exceptionally long. Finally, after waiting for him to finish every last grain of rice, I quickly handed him a glass of water.

“Thirsty? Have some water.”

“Go rest in the bedroom after you finish. I’m going to take a shower.”

“Really?”

He suddenly looked up at me, surprised and overjoyed, as if receiving a divine mercy. A layer of mist covered his eyes, and his voice was thick and hoarse, looking utterly pitiful.

To be honest, my conscience pricked me for a moment.

He looked like he might have a cold.

And yet, I still wasn’t going to let him off. I really was a beast.

But it was only for a moment.

Fragile tears are a man’s best dowry, and a weeping man is the best kind to dominate!

I emerged from the steamy bathroom wrapped in a bath towel.

My heart was pounding with excitement; I could hardly contain myself.

The medicine should have taken effect by now.

Sure enough.

Wenzhou was sprawled on the bed, fast asleep.

I walked over excitedly and kissed him.

“The Emperor has arrived for my little beauty~ Give me a kiss~ You smell so good!”

After a round of nibbling him all over, I unbuttoned his pajamas.

Just as I was starting my ‘all-you-can-eat buffet,’ he suddenly let out a muffled groan, as if he were enduring something to the limit.

“Ngh…”

I froze in place, not even daring to breathe heavily.

After a long while, I realized he hadn’t woken up.

I breathed a sigh of relief and continued my feast.

The buffet was magnificent.

After I had blissfully had my fill, I finally quieted down to admire Wenzhou.

His fair skin was flushed with a light pink, like peach blossom petals, strikingly beautiful.

“So pretty…”

Ever since we were young, I had always thought Wenzhou was handsome.

Though he had sharp features and clear eyes, he didn’t seem aggressive. Instead, he had a gentle, scholarly air about him.

My fingertips slid from his brow, down the bridge of his nose, and settled on his lips.

“You look so easy to bully.”

“I like you so, so much.”

“Did you hear that? Wenzhou, Gu Qing likes you.”

As soon as the words left my mouth, I saw his long eyelashes flutter.

My heart skipped a beat.

Was he awake?

“Was that an illusion? I thought I saw his eyelashes move…”

To test it, I gave him a suck right over his most sensitive spot-his heart.

If he were awake, he would definitely tremble.

But he didn’t react.

I was completely reassured and turned off the lights to sleep.

Once I was sound asleep, the man lying flat beside me opened a pair of deep, shimmering eyes. He restrained the vines that were greedily crawling up from under the bed toward my waist and abdomen.

“Quiet down.”

“Don’t scare her.”

The next morning, I hummed a tune as I went downstairs.

Wenzhou adjusted my silk scarf for me.

“Is the Young Miss in a good mood?”

“Mm-hmm.”

I looked at him with a beaming smile.

“Do you feel anything different today?”

He shook his head, his face a picture of perfect confusion.

“Nothing different.”

“Though I did seem exceptionally sleepy last night?”

The mood of my humming became even more cheerful.

“Maybe you were just too tired during the day!”

This idiot. He didn’t even realize he’d been devoured.

When I met up with Su Qingge later, she frantically asked me how things went last night.

I told her everything went according to plan and was extremely smooth.

She was dumbfounded.

“Extremely smooth?”

“Yeah!”

“But you clearly took my bag of protein powder by mistake yesterday!”

I immediately denied it. “How is that possible? You must be remembering wrong.”

“Wenzhou slept like a log. Protein powder doesn’t have that kind of effect.”

Su Qingge scratched her head. “Is that so… Did I remember wrong? Oh, whatever! Anyway, this one today is the real deal.”

That night, I repeated my old trick.

But halfway through, I found a vine leaf on the bed.

I was puzzled.

Hadn’t he cleared out all those plants?

How could there still be such a fresh, green leaf?

Over the next few days, things got weirder and weirder.

First it was leaves, then a section of vine appeared, and then…

Before I could think further, a numbing sensation surged up my spine, drowning my reason. Tears blurred my vision into a misty haze.

My waist felt as if it were being bound by something.

Greedily, it tightened more and more.
