Summary
Raised in a celebrated courtesan house, sixteen-year-old Xueying has excellent manners—and an even sharper tongue. When a marquis arrives claiming she is his long-lost daughter, she would rather keep her old life and her pocket money. But the people who hired assassins to kill her are waiting in his household. Back among her supposed family, she finds a hostile father, a trembling mother, a formidable grandmother, and a false daughter determined to keep everything she stole. They expect a disgraced girl they can control. Xueying knows how to flatter, how to perform, and exactly when to stop being polite.
