Summary
Jiang Wanyu entered the palace as a Sleeping Attendant for Qi Rang, atoning for her family’s sins. Qi Rang coldly watched her struggle to survive in this man-eating imperial palace, never showing her a hint of mercy, even allowing his jealous favored consort to poison her into a Mute.
Wanyu endured in silence, gradually growing numb and cold-hearted under his daily torment and humiliation. She only wished for the day she could leave the palace upon coming of age, never to see him again in this lifetime.
However, three days before Wanyu was set to leave, the cold and ruthless emperor suddenly changed, obsessively entangling her and refusing to let her go.
“You belong to me, as does this world. No matter where you go, you’ll never escape my grasp.”
Qi Rang had no heart-he killed his father and brothers, was cold and cruel, and never fell for any concubine in the harem. Let alone a lowly Mute Slave.
For five years, he never truly looked at Wanyu, but had grown used to her quiet presence, never imagining she would one day leave.
It wasn’t until Wanyu was about to leave the palace that he realized her heart belonged to someone else.
In that moment, he was driven mad with jealousy and would stop at nothing to keep her in the palace.
Later, he finally understood: even if he held the vast empire in his hands, he could never hold onto this woman’s heart.
