The Prince Consort Takes the Role of a Kept Man - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Although the imperial physician said there was no need to interfere too much, and that we should simply treat it as a chance for Yan Chenshuang to vent his emotions…
The New Emperor had only just ascended the throne. The situation at court was still unstable. Where was the time to let him recover at his own pace?
Chancellor Yan had to recover as soon as possible, if only to steady people’s hearts.
So I covered Yan Chenshuang’s eyes and asked the imperial physician, utterly without compassion, “How can we make him recover as quickly as possible?”
The imperial physician told me to let nature take its course. Otherwise, if we forced him to accept memories he did not acknowledge, it might provoke him instead and cause irreversible harm.
“However, if Your Highness is truly anxious… perhaps you could appropriately recreate certain profound memories of Lord Yan’s.”
Recreating the old scenes of important memories might allow Yan Chenshuang to regain some of his real memories, thereby dissolving his mistaken perceptions.
The problem was…
As Yan Chenshuang’s only current “family member,” I did not actually know him all that well.
As an ally, all I needed to know was that he could help me and my imperial younger brother, and that he was a rather loyal and useful blade.
But now, that very “lack of understanding” had made things troublesome.
I had no idea what, to him, was truly worth remembering.
Yan Chenshuang had worked himself to the bone for me for three years. Throughout those three years, he had always been as quiet as air.
A mass of air that was everywhere at once.
By day, he assisted my younger brother at court. In private, he helped me manage the household accounts, took care of my food and daily needs, and was even busier than the steward of the estate.
If it were me, forget calling such grueling, nonstop days unforgettable-I would be desperate to wipe them all from my mind.
Unless Yan Chenshuang had some kind of masochistic streak, there really should not have been any important memories between the two of us that he would cling to so dearly.
At my wit’s end, I grew embarrassed and angry, and pinched Yan Chenshuang’s cheek.
Usually, this man’s face was so cold it was practically frozen. Now that he had lost his memory, he had actually become much more obedient.
He did not dodge when I pinched his face. Instead, he even leaned that peach-blossom-bright face closer, as if he could not wait for me to bully him a few more times.
Meeting those limpid eyes, I irritably pinched him several more times.
I had not used much force at all, yet Yan Chenshuang’s face turned red, and he looked at me with damp, glistening eyes.
A person who had always been as cold as frost suddenly showing such a bullied expression left me stunned for a moment.
“Your Highness, would you like to continue?”
“It is fine if you go lower…”
Before the scene could become any less suitable for children, I finally came back to my senses and clamped down hard on Yan Chenshuang’s hand.
“Everyone, leave!”
In a panic, I waved everyone away, then fled along with them.
Yan Chenshuang without his wits was truly terrifying beyond words!
