The Promised Day - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
The hands of the alarm clock on my nightstand ticked steadily.
My heart thudded just as loudly.
“Y-You’re not a pet snake? I remember putting you in the terrarium. I even locked the bedroom door.”
“A terrarium can’t hold me. In fact, nothing can.”
The Black Snake spoke calmly.
Just now, I had even wondered if the lock on the door was broken.
I hadn’t expected the reason to be this unscientific.
“Then… are you Zhou Ci?” I asked tentatively.
“Mm. It’s me.”
Well, damn. I really had gone and carried off the Zhou Family’s Old Ancestor?
The comments hadn’t lied to me.
What do I do? What do I do?
I didn’t say anything, and neither did Zhou Ci.
His golden vertical pupils stared fixedly at me, reflecting my face with startling clarity. His snake tail slid quietly around my waist, making a faint, sandy rasp as it brushed over my skin.
“I’m so sleepy, Zhou Ci. I kind of want to sleep. Can you let go of me first?”
After I said that, I actually saw an aggrieved expression on a snake’s face.
“These past few days, you slept while holding me.”
Even his tone sounded wronged.
I explained patiently, “Back then, I thought you were just an ordinary pet snake. I didn’t know you were a snake demon…”
“Ying Xu.” Zhou Ci cut me off, his tail tightening around me in displeasure. “I am a god, not a demon. All gods have a true form. Mine just happens to be a snake.”
Before I could speak, Zhou Ci lowered his head and leaned closer.
“Ying Xu, kiss me. Kiss me once, and I’ll let you go.”
I kissed the Black Snake on the eye.
Sure enough, his tail loosened.
[No way. One kiss and Zhou Ci is soothed back into an embryo? Bro, you’ve lived for thousands of years, not a few.]
[Nice, nice. This is even more bland than the diet meal I had tonight.]
I looked at the alarm clock on my nightstand.
Two ten in the morning.
Did these commenters not sleep?
I didn’t know if it was because I’d gotten used to sleeping while holding the Little White Snake.
After Zhou Ci left the bedroom, I did fall asleep.
But the quality of my sleep? Terrible.
I kept having the same blurry dream over and over.
I dreamed I fell into a lake and drowned.
When I woke up and saw the empty space beside me, with no sign of the Little White Snake, the sense of disorientation only got worse.
The comments were awake too.
[Zhou Ci soaked in cold water all night. I stayed up all night watching Zhou Ci soak in cold water. We both have bright futures ahead of us. :)]
[If all else fails, just go full forced-love, bro. I’m begging you.]
[He can’t bear to do it. (covers face with a bitter smile)]
I walked over to the terrarium and found that Zhou Ci wasn’t inside.
Anxious, I searched everywhere for him.
As I neared the kitchen, a familiar voice came from behind me.
“Ying Xu, come have breakfast.”
[Holy crap, look, everyone! Zhou Ci, he, he, he, he! He’s playing dirty!]
[Sis, don’t panic. Let me, someone who has seen the world, take a look at what’s going on… Holy crap!!!!!!]
I turned around.
A devastatingly striking face crashed into my vision without warning.
How could anyone be this good-looking?
More precisely, his upper body was human, and his lower body was a long, thick snake tail.
Most importantly…
His upper body! Wasn’t wearing clothes!
Perfect abs. That defined V-line…
[The female lead is stunned.]
[Zhou Ci, what other surprises are you hiding from me?]
[Zhou Ci: Behold, a small trick.]
[This man is deeply scheming.]
