The Red-robed BOSS Says I Killed Him - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
I couldn’t sleep that night.
The mixture of snoring, heavy breathing, and suppressed sobbing in the safe point was grating on my nerves.
I went to the restroom alone.
The mirror was covered in dust, and the light was broken, making my reflection look horribly distorted.
Just as I leaned over to wash my hands, a shadow appeared behind me.
I whipped my head around.
No one was there.
But a second later, the door to the furthest stall was pushed open.
Li Shuheng leaned against the doorframe, watching me as if he had been standing there for a long time.
“Do you have a habit of peeping on people?”
“I do.”
He answered so naturally that I was nearly speechless.
“Didn’t you used to peep at me all the time too?”
“When did I ever-”
“You’d stand outside the observation window, pretending to pass by. At least five times a day.”
“That was for work.”
“Oh.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“Then your work was quite frequent.”
My ears burned at his words, yet I couldn’t recall anything more complete about it.
“What are you doing here?”
“Watching you.”
“Haven’t you seen enough?”
“Not enough.”
I fell silent instantly.
Li Shuheng stood up straight and slowly walked toward me.
The restroom was too narrow. As he approached, that cold fragrance became even clearer.
Instinctively, I wanted to retreat, but the small of my back hit the sink.
“Don’t get so close.”
“Why?”
“It’s dangerous.”
“Am I dangerous, or are you?”
He looked down at me, his voice dropping to a whisper.
“Luo Tinglan, your ears are red.”
“…Shut up.”
He actually smiled.
It was a faint smile.
But my heart gave a violent thud in response.
“You haven’t answered me yet.”
“What?”
“What are you doing here?”
Li Shuheng was quiet for a couple of seconds before he spoke.
“To warn you.”
“Warn me about what?”
“Stay away from Lin Xizhe.”
“Why?”
“Because he isn’t human.”
I froze for a moment.
“You’re a Dungeon Boss, and you’re saying someone else isn’t human?”
“Yes.”
“Is that supposed to be convincing coming from you?”
“It is.”
He looked at me, his gaze suddenly turning cold.
“Because I know what a real monster looks like.”
“He used to stand outside the glass.”
“Dressed cleanly, holding a clipboard, deciding whose turn it was to enter the pod today.”
My heart sank abruptly.
“You know him?”
“I do.”
“Who is he?”
“The person who used to stand outside the glass, watching to see if we’d live or die.”
Those words were like a bucket of ice water poured over my head.
My lips trembled, and for a moment, I didn’t even know what to ask.
Li Shuheng reached out and touched my left shoulder.
It had been bruised earlier today.
His fingers were very cold, but when they touched me, the pain in my shoulder actually began to fade.
“You taught me this too.”
“I taught you how to stop pain?”
“More than that.”
“You also taught me not to speak so harshly.”
“You taught me that if someone is good to me, I don’t have to immediately suspect what they want.”
As he reached this point, his voice grew even lower.
“Unfortunately, the thing I learned best was waiting for you to come back.”
My chest felt tight.
“And then?”
“And then you came back every time.”
“You just forgot every time.”
“Then why didn’t you just force me to remember?”
Li Shuheng looked at me for a while.
“Because it would hurt you.”
“And…”
He paused.
“I didn’t want the first thing you remembered about me to be that you killed me.”
My eyes suddenly burned.
That heat came so fast.
So fast that I didn’t even have time to hide it.
“I really killed you?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I begged you to.”
As soon as he said that, I felt as if I had been nailed to the spot.
